Photos and Description of the Seguin vacation cabin rental
Wonderful waterfront getaway minutes to many area attractions

'Rivernest' is a charming one-room cabin located in Seguin, Texas on over two acres with no other guests on the property. Enjoy the shady manicured lawn and over 310' of Guadalupe riverfront just steps away. Relax riverside on two private patios, one shady and one sunny. The river is very peaceful without the crowds in nearby New Braunfels. Perfect for tubing, paddlers, or fishing. The 230 sf cabin includes a vintage kitchen, microwave, blender, coffee maker and fridge. Furnished with a full and twin size bed, full size sleeper and cotton sheets/bedding. The adjoining large covered patio has two ceiling fans, vintage patio furniture, a cooking area with a gas grill with burner, prep area and dining table. Minutes to Seguin town square, close to San Marcos Premium Outlets (25 minutes), New Braunfels (20 minutes), Gruene winerys, Natural Bridge Caverns and San Antonio Riverwalk . Perfect for that Girl's Getaway, romantic weekends, nature lovers, and parents of TX State and TLU students.

The River: This beautiful section of the Guadalupe River, also known locally as Meadow Lake, has plenty of beautiful water year round and is 9 to 10 feet deep this summer. Unlike the cold water of the upper Guadalupe the water temperature is very pleasant. Many Texas rivers are very low this summer due to the drought (be sure to ask about water levels if you book elsewhere). This parklike setting offers plenty of shade due to the numerous century old pecan trees. Sit on the hillside swing or in the shade at the waters edge and enjoy the riverside patios. If you have a boat or jet skis there is a public marina on the river and you can tie off on your private bulkhead. Indulge yourself with your favorite beverage as you watch the sunset on the river from a comfy adirondack chair. With over two beautiful acres all to yourselves enjoy this treasure anytime of the year!

The 'Rivernest' Cabin: This small but well appointed cabin has everything for a great time at the river without the hassle of bringing a lot of things from home. It comes with the following and more:

- Towels and beach towels

- Everything you typically find in a kitchen plus spices and coffee

- Coffee maker, blender, hot plate, electric skillet and microwave

- Gas grill with burner with grilling utensils

- Ice chests

- Tube inflator and some tubes

- 32' flat screen tv/dvd player and movies

- internet/cable tv

- Six adirondack chairs by the water

The Location: 'Rivernest' is centrally located two hours from the West Belt in Houston, less than an hour from San Antonio and Austin. Use this for your base camp to visit numerous attractions like Gruene Hall, wineries, Natural Bridge Caverns, San Antonio Riverwalk, San Marcos outlets, New Braunfels/Schlitterbahn, Wurstfest and Texas State and Texas Lutheran Universities. Enjoy local venues as well like the Wavepool, ZDT Amusement Park, Starke Park Public Golf Course and Park and local shopping in Seguin. There are plenty of events in Central Park on the town square as well as Chiro Java coffee house. Although you are in a rural setting, you are five minutes from WalMart. A great place to stay when attending Wurstfest in New Braunfels. The 51st Wurstfest runs from November 2-11. Check the Seguin Chamber for more events.

About Cheryl Gordon

After buying the cabin and falling in love with the area I decided to leave Houston where I had spent most of my adult life. Simplify and downsize (sound familiar?). I am now a resident of New Braunfels.

Cheryl Gordon purchased this cabin in 2005
Why Cheryl Gordon chose Seguin

After vacationing at a friend's cabin in Wimberley for many years, I wanted to find a special property to start a legacy not only for my family but to share with others. A place to start a family tradition, yours and mine, of celebrating summers, graduations, anniversaries and maybe a wedding.

What makes this cabin unique

This property was found on my initial serendipitous search. The grounds seemed lush and manicured. There were so many amenities without the huge house and upkeep. It was love at first sight. The cabin has a refined rustic quality and reminds me of how much we don't need for a happy existence.

What an incredible last minute vacation!!! Absolutely beautiful. The owner contacted me within an hour of my email and was so accommodating! I could not believe how beautiful the cabin and property were for such a reasonable price. We never saw anyone the whole time we were there. It was like a little piece of heaven all to ourselves. I have recommended this oasis to all of my friends and can not wait to go back. Beautiful memories!!! Thank you so much for sharing.

We had a wonderful time at the Nest!! Beautiful scenery. The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful it is there. The cabin was nicely furnished. It was a bit cramped with five of us but with us only sleeping in there it turned out good!! The area is shaded enough that it was cool enough to eat outside every meal. We loved it. Water was super. We want to go back for sure!!!

A Treasure

5 of 5
Submitted: July 3, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
I stayed here as a get-away-from-it-all gift from my wife and it is wonderful. It was just an hour drive from Austin, which makes it an easy getaway. And it also made it possible for my wife and 2 year old son to visit for the afternoon on Sunday, thanks in part to the owner's graciousness in extending the check out time since no one was booked the next day.

The Good: The cabin was very well-appointed, clean and the bed was comfortable (I only tried one). The AC worked well. It was pretty small inside, but it was more than enough. Besides, I spent much of my time on the attached spacious and covered patio. The inside might seem a bit cramped if you spend your time indoors and have more than a couple people, but why would you when you have...

The Better: The water in the Guadalupe here was plentiful, warm and refreshing. You can dive right in or enjoy the rope swing to take the plunge. One thing I loved was how quiet this lake is. Unlike Lake LBJ or Lake Austin, there is not a constant parade of boats and jet skis creating noise pollution and making it dangerous to swim and float. In fact, there were very few boats the entire weekend. I really appreciated the use of the provided floats. The water is deep so having them is necessary if you don't want to swim of tread water the entire time.

My only "complaint" (a minor one and really only applies to people with little kids) is that the water is deep right at the shoreline, so it is not the type of place where the little ones (or dogs) can wade in and play in a shallow area and get out on their own. It was tough getting our son in and out of the water since the metal stairs are the only option and they do get a little hot. That said, our son had a blast floating in a provided tube and splashing and watching me use the rope swing. And after a rejuvenating swim, I enjoyed...

...The Best: The grounds! It is a very private 2 acres filled with towering trees for shade and relaxation. There is a wonderful "porch" swing that sits high above the water and gives you a peaceful place to take in the tranquility of this place. The yard is well-maintained and the improved waterfront "sidewalk" was also a great place to sit and enjoy the scenery. It was very private and quiet, even on a very temperate summer weekend.

My wife (who booked this as a surprise for me) said the owner was very friendly, professional and generous with check in and check out times. I will be back!
Owner's Response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Rivernest. Thank you so much for the glowing review and gracious comments. We are currently working to provide a "beachy" area to provide easy access for children, adults and pets. Please visit again soon!

Laid back weekend getaway

4 of 5
Submitted: June 7, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
Coming from Austin, this little getaway in Seguin is only about an hour's drive, which was perfect. Even though the cabin was small, it had everything you needed and the owner did a great job with the decor! Was surprised to see how nice the inside was when we arrived. AC was plentiful! The grill did run out of propane the first day, so we had to go into town to restock.

The riverfront acreage is the highlight here - tons of huge pecan trees for shade, lush green grass and only a short walk to the river. The peace and quiet was a perfect compliment to the green space. The river swing was so much fun and the tubes (included w/rental) were a great bonus. We barely saw anyone else on the river during our stay! The only downside was the water is a bit stagnant, especially in the morning, so I would check river conditions before you go (this is more of a reservoir/lake w/water moving less than river). Also, the only way up from the water is a metal vertical stair that isn't too sturdy. If you have dogs, it's a bit challenging to pull them out!

I did love the rental and will return, but I do hope the owner is a little more responsive the next time, as it was hard to plan a vacation with little feedback and details.
Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed the cabin. Plans are underway to build a beach area to make it easier for pets and children to have easier access to and from the river. This part of the river (Meadow Lake) is pretty much constant level which means we always plenty of water but don't have a strong current. The bonus is you can stay close to the cabin, riverside patios and ice chests!

Great Getaway!

We chose this location for it's beautiful landscape and onsite access to the Guadalupe River. The owner provided many great extras that made for a wonderful stay including tubes, gas grill, fresh towels and clean, beautiful decor! I must say... the pics just do not do justice to the beauty of the landscape! It was incredible! Swing overlooking the river for your morning coffee or evening drinks. Very nice bulkhead to fish, dive, or tie up a tube and spend the day. We were close to enough to many local activities including restaurants, rafting trips, shopping in nearby New Braunfels, Gruene, San Antonio, and many others we simply ran out of time to explore. The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. While we were there, we sent pics to friends and family who were immediately interested in more information. We are hoping to get back soon to enjoy all the things we missed... especially "Rivernest." Thank you for having us!!!
