A Treasure

I stayed here as a get-away-from-it-all gift from my wife and it is wonderful. It was just an hour drive from Austin, which makes it an easy getaway. And it also made it possible for my wife and 2 year old son to visit for the afternoon on Sunday, thanks in part to the owner's graciousness in extending the check out time since no one was booked the next day.
The Good: The cabin was very well-appointed, clean and the bed was comfortable (I only tried one). The AC worked well. It was pretty small inside, but it was more than enough. Besides, I spent much of my time on the attached spacious and covered patio. The inside might seem a bit cramped if you spend your time indoors and have more than a couple people, but why would you when you have...
The Better: The water in the Guadalupe here was plentiful, warm and refreshing. You can dive right in or enjoy the rope swing to take the plunge. One thing I loved was how quiet this lake is. Unlike Lake LBJ or Lake Austin, there is not a constant parade of boats and jet skis creating noise pollution and making it dangerous to swim and float. In fact, there were very few boats the entire weekend. I really appreciated the use of the provided floats. The water is deep so having them is necessary if you don't want to swim of tread water the entire time.
My only "complaint" (a minor one and really only applies to people with little kids) is that the water is deep right at the shoreline, so it is not the type of place where the little ones (or dogs) can wade in and play in a shallow area and get out on their own. It was tough getting our son in and out of the water since the metal stairs are the only option and they do get a little hot. That said, our son had a blast floating in a provided tube and splashing and watching me use the rope swing. And after a rejuvenating swim, I enjoyed...
...The Best: The grounds! It is a very private 2 acres filled with towering trees for shade and relaxation. There is a wonderful "porch" swing that sits high above the water and gives you a peaceful place to take in the tranquility of this place. The yard is well-maintained and the improved waterfront "sidewalk" was also a great place to sit and enjoy the scenery. It was very private and quiet, even on a very temperate summer weekend.
My wife (who booked this as a surprise for me) said the owner was very friendly, professional and generous with check in and check out times. I will be back!
Owner's Response: Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Rivernest. Thank you so much for the glowing review and gracious comments. We are currently working to provide a "beachy" area to provide easy access for children, adults and pets. Please visit again soon!
