Alpine Fish & Ski Haus in Dunsmuir is a charming 3 bedroom, 2 bath home right in town, and within easy walking distance to many superb restaurants, the brewery and shops. You can be skiing Shasta less than a half hour from the haus.
Guests can take advantage of our Early Arrivals or Late Departure (when available), which is perfect for fishers, skiers, climbers and hikers. Read farther down for special rates for smaller parties, as well as 'Just Passing Through' rates for overnighters.
You'll find our kitchen has all of the basics, plus a Keurig coffee system, juicer, Cuisinart and extensive bake ware. There is a fine china dining set as well as a casual set. Casual glassware and crystal. High-speed Wi-Fi and a docking station for music.
We don't have water filtration because we don't need it. Dunsmuir really does have the best water on earth. Every year, it tests 100% pure.
There is a mud room for outdoor footwear, skiing and fishing gear. The kitchen opens onto the delightful, private patio with nice outdoor furniture. It's edged by an attractive garden is a spectacularly comfortable place to hang out in the summer. Afternoon sun is filtered through big oak trees. The patio has a Weber BBQ. Kids love the glider and adults love the privacy.
Antiques such as the Victorian iron & brass bed and fine handcrafted furnishings are everywhere. Whimsical touches include trout lights around the top of the stunning 4 poster queen bed in the master bedroom. The beds have sumptuous sheets guests rave about (microfiber in summer & fleece in winter).
The living room looks out on the mountains and is filled with morning sun. It has a leather couch and loveseat; a nice futon that becomes a double bed and a library of excellent books.
There is a full laundry complete with detergent and dryer towels. And we have an office with an oak roll-top desk. One of the baths has an antique ball & claw foot tub, while the other has a modern tub and shower.
Call us for specials not on this site. The closer we are to the date you'd like, the better the potential discount. Although it can sleep 8, we usually hold it to 6, unless we have rented to a party before and know they are very good about taking care of our place, since it is not close to us, as our Trinity River cabins are.
We offer several lodging options: Least expensive is the one night rental for 1-2 guests and only 1 bed. This is great for travelers passing through, and it still includes use of the laundry.
We own & run Trinity River Adventure Inn in Trinity County. We created Alpine Ski & Fish Haus as a vacation rental as well as our own ski getaway, so it is especially well-appointed and situated. Although located just 2 minutes from Interstate 5, our place avoids the constant hum of freeway traffic. This was a big deal to us, and it ruled out several places in our search.
You can be fishing after a 5 minute walk to the Upper Sac, plus there are many more beloved fishing areas within minutes from Dunsmuir. Hedge Creek Falls at the north end of town is not to be missed.
We love the sound of the train going through town, but are also far enough from the tracks that it doesn't sound as though the train's running through the house.
Best of all, in this steep little mountain town, all of the great, close-by attractions are within an easy, mostly-level 10 minute walk. Read farther down to learn about them.
Dunsmuir has entranced us with its fabulous attractions so close to our place:
Dunsmuir Tire is nearby and a super asset for us and our guests. If you're having car trouble, they offer many services (they saved us when a thermostat went out on our vehicle!), plus they sell and service tires and install chains. The manager is Tony and he's a peach.
Cafe' Maddelena is a tiny jewel of a restaurant, and it has exquisite food.
Cornerstone Bakery's baked goods, breakfasts and lunches are hearty and sumptuous.
Sengthong's is very popular and features a wide variety of Thai and Vietnamese foods.
McGuire's Restaurant has a great old counter as well as tables; a roaring wood stove you can cozy up to in winter; neat, large-format vintage photographs; and very good food. We love Dunsmuir Brewery Works' fine brews and creative food.
New restaurants and shops just opened.
And because we cater to fishers at both of our locations, we are thrilled to have Ted Fay Fly Shop nearby. It is a legendary shop and has been in Dunsmuir for over 50 years.
Try Alpine Ski & Fish Haus once and you'll be hooked. You'll also receive a very nice discount for a future stay at our Trinity River cabins, adding to your exploration possibilities. Once you click on our web site, you can see how much we have to offer.
1/5/2013: 'The place is wonderful for us; having a great time. Skiing is awesome. Love Dunsmuir and the [100% pure] water, the brew pub and your nicely stocked kitchen. We love to cook, and travel with our knives, pepper grinder, good salt, etc. Not needed here! Nice ipod docking station and comfy beds. The whole trip has been great. Enjoying your homey place so much, too. We have stayed in so many different places and you never know quite what to expect, but you guys have put so much into making the place comfortable, clean, organized, and sweet.
Sometimes go to Tahoe but much prefer the less crowded and peaceful vibe of places like this! Will definitely hope to return sometime. I had a great walk around town, everyone is so friendly. Having fantasies of moving up here. Maybe someday... sigh. Much thanks.' Becca Durkee/Oakland, CA
12/17/12: 'We very much enjoyed our stay at your house! It was cozy, warm and had everything that we needed. We spent the day snowboarding on Mt. Shasta and taking walks around Dunsmuir.
It was perfect for us and the kids. Plenty of space for everyone. We have no suggestions, but THANK YOU for this opportunity!!' Maura Traylor/Danville, CA
