My wife & I love boating, sunsets, and Florida weather in the winter. After much looking, we bought in Grande Isle, Burnt Store Marina. We love our neighbors and joining with them for our Thirsty Thursday socials. There are many exceptional restaurants nearby and we have developed a 'happy rut' by routinely going to each. We also enjoy it when the St. Louis Cardinals come to our side of the state to play either then Red Sox or Twins in spring training.
We start each day with a walk around the marina. See manatees most every day, and walk along the mullet jumping in the canal and on special ocassions, dolphin. The boats, palms and plantings make for a beautiful walk and a perfect way to start the day.
For lunch or dinner, the on-site restaurant, Porto Bello's, offers indoor and outdoor table options. They also offer entertainment many evenings.
Just a short drive is Matlacha, a fishing village and artist community, on Pine Island. Great place to rent a kayak, buy fresh fish and fruits from the markets, find a waterside wateringhole, bump into a famous local author, stop for homemade ice cream, and stroll the many art galleries.
