Make yourself at home in our beautiful log home located in a quiet and convenient neighborhood in gorgeous Girdwood, Alaska! Girdwood is an active community located about 40 minutes south of Anchorage along the Seward Highway, and is a great location from which to base your exploration of Southcentral Alaska. Our home is nestled in a forested but easily accessible neighborhood less than 3/4 of a mile from Alyeska Resort. Set out on nearby biking or walking trails and explore what Girdwood has to offer: world class skiing and snowboarding in the winter and epic hiking and biking in the summer! Some of the best-loved restaurants in the Anchorage area are found in Girdwood. Hiking trails abound and come in a wide variety from easy to difficult, forested to above tree line, with opportunities to view waterfalls and wildlife to your heart's content. If you are visiting in the summer, you might like to consider tandem paragliding at nearby Alyeska Resort for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Explore the Kenai Peninsula with its vast array of hiking, fishing, rafting, and wildlife viewing activities, take a train ride to Seward, or travel the road system to Whittier, Seward, Homer or points along the way. Book a sport fishing trip or sea-kayaking adventure from nearby Whittier. The opportunities to get out and enjoy what Alaska has to offer are too numerous to mention. Our home is well-designed for your comfort with two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, on the main floor along with the open kitchen, dining and living space and one full bathroom. The wood stove in the living space adds to the ambiance and comfort of our home, and we keep one of the two utility sheds on the property stocked with split wood for the stove. The master suite includes a large bedroom with a california king log bed and a private full bathroom. There is a sleeper sofa in the living room that can be used to accommodate two additional guests. In the fall of 2012, we added a deck on the back side of the house and a hot tub! You will find the kitchen stocked with a selection of breakfast items, coffee and tea for your convenience. The house has a cable TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, and is WIFI enabled.

We are a family of four residing in South Anchorage, about 40 minutes away from Girdwood. We moved to Alaska about 10 years ago and take every opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy Alaska. We spend much of our leisure time in Girdwood and the surrounding area, and found the perfect second home for our family only recently. We look forward to sharing it with you and are nearby to help with any of your questions about where to go and what to see while visiting Alaska! We have had the benefit of entertaining many out of state friends and family and can draw on our personal experiences as well as those of our local friends should you need some travel advice. Scott is a commercial pilot and Barbara works for the Alaska Railroad. We have two sons Skyler (7) and Dylan (5) and a great Alaskan dog named Kenai.
Scott and Barbara purchased this house in 2011
We love Girdwood and have wanted to own a home in this community for years! Scott enjoys paragliding at Alyeska Resort, and the whole family likes to hike, bike and ski in the area. We find that when friends and family come to visit, Girdwood is a better base for their travels than is Anchorage or Eagle River as much of our favorite things to see and do involve traveling the Seward Highway to Girdwood and points south. We like the variety of amenities in the Girdwood community with its abundance of outdoor activities in addition to the upscale amenities of the resort and the great collection of local restaurants. Our kids love the wonderful Girdwood playground and skateboard park and biking along the paved biking trail as well as taking the tram ride up the mountain and paragliding with their Dad from the top of Alyeska. Our kids take ski lessons at the resort where they can start on a gentle slope with a magic carpet and graduate through Alyeska's ski school to the more challenging terrain that the resort has to offer.
What more can we say? We feel just about anyone will feel right at home in our place and should have just about everything you will want in a rental. New in 2012 is our back deck and hot tub!
We all went down and skied on Christmas Day after having Christmas morning back at home 1.5 hrs away. It was so nice not to have to drive back. Skied over to the resort in 15min and back in about 20. I was tired. It was so nice just to relax and have a great meal. Then after the kids were put to bed we snuggled up for a nice movie by the glowing wood stove. It has been a long time since I stayed at a resort after skiing and now I know what I have been missing.
We - two adults and two young teens - stayed in this beautiful log cabin for two nights. We only wish we could have stayed longer! The cabin is comfortable, so well-equipped, roomy, and is perfectly located for day trips to the Portage Glacier area and to Anchorage, as well as for activities in Girdwood itself. The kids loved the hot tub -- it was the perfect hang-out spot on a cold rainy evening! The owners were gracious and helpful - tho' we never met them we knew they were available for questions or whatever we needed.
The home was beautiful and comfortable. The extra thoughtful stocking of items for our first breakfast was much appreciated. Plenty of wood for the fire. The hot tub was luxurious, and the scenery was wonderful. Ours was a 3 generation outing, and everyone from grandkids to parents to grandparents were comfortable.
My family stayed here for three nights in July. It was probably our favorite place to stay while in Alaska. The log cabin made it feel like you were having a true Alaskan experience, and the neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. The house was just as described, very clean, and spacious. We stayed here as our launching point for trips to Prince William Sound and Seward, and it turned out to be a good central location for this purpose. The owners were very helpful, and added a special touch by supplying some breakfast items for our stay. Would definitely recommend staying here!
We really enjoyed our recent stay in this beautiful property in Girdwood. We were spending two weeks in Alaska with our two teenagers and this was both a wonderful town and property for our stay. We used the location as a hub to Whittier and Prince William Sound. We found some great trails in Girdwood with beautiful views of waterfalls and we took the tram up the mountain to do some exploring there. The house was exactly as the pictures reflect - absolutely lovely setting with trees all around and very well maintained. The owners were extremely helpful and were kind enough to leave breakfast items for us which we really enjoyed. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to others. Great visit! Thank you so much Barbara!
Great place to stay in Girdwood. House was gorgeous...great kitchen, beautifully decorated...hot tub, washer/dryer were helpful. Close to town and Alyeska...quiet neighborhood. Would stay there again!
The description is very accurate regarding the location and the photos depict the property perfectly. It is a gorgeous property. It's perfectly nestled, yet open at the same time. Quiet and peaceful, yet not remote. The owner's were wonderful, very responsive, and very friendly. The owner's give the property those "little touches" that make the whole stay just that much more special. The property was extremely clean and had wonderful appliances and kitchen needs. You can ski Alyeska, hike the Winner Creek Trail, eat at Jack Spratt or Seven Glaciers. I would recommend this to all!
