The house was very clean, well maintained in the interior, and a great price. It would be greatly improved by having a regular bed in the 3rd bedroom instead of a futon and if one of the couches were a pull out instead of a blow up. We had no problems once there, but none of the links Ginger sent to us before hand worked, and the tone of email conversations with her were short and she seemed annoyed. We enjoyed the house, but with a large group of adults in the future I would look for a place with 3 full beds and an agent that appreciates the business.

Great for a big family!

This was a comfortable, spacious house - we had two families (with 4 teenagers and 2 small children) and appreciated the blow up mattress. We would definitely stay here again. It is a well-cared for home.

Had a great time! The property was as described, was clean and Ginger was very helpful...brought us extra keys. Outside was not very well maintained, however it may be during summer.

Great house in Alpine

  • 5 of 5
The listing description was accurate, and the place was charming and quite spacious. It was exactly what we needed after several days of staying in small hotel rooms near Terlingua. Ginger, the owner/manager, was extremely helpful in answering questions; she also called the day before our arrival, to make sure we made in to Alpine in spite of the recent ice storm, and to apologize for the downed tree limbs in the front yard. The instructions for using the home's amenities and for cleanup/check-out were very clear and straightforward - a plus. The house and surrounding property were clean and well-maintained (except for the aforementioned tree limbs - not the owner's fault she couldn't get anyone out the week of Thanksgiving to clear a few tree limbs). The bathrooms and kitchen were very clean and well-appointed. Alpine is a great town, and the surrounding areas of Marathon, Marfa, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and of course, Big Bend National Park, are just spectacular. Well worth the trip. Restaurants in Alpine: Try Reata and Guzzi Up; avoid the Century Bar and Grill.

Alpine Art Walk Weekend

This was our second stay at the Alpine Rock House and it was as great an experience as the first time despite the winter storm that came through. The location is convenient, the home spacious and we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. One note, the home has beautiful hardwood floors throughout and I would suggest having a rug of some sort inside the front door specifically for times like this when the walkways are covered in ice and snow. Also, having rock salt stored in the home would be advantageous to travelers who are not prepared to deal with these kinds of conditions in the morning!

The Alpine Rock House was conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood with stores nearby. The decorating style in the house was very eclectic (nothing seemed to match), but all of the rooms were large and the furniture (bedroom, living room and dining room) was very comfortable. There were actually two bedrooms that could be used as a master with bath. The kitchen was well equipped. The house was clean. There was no outdoor grill, which would have been nice. The biggest disappointment was the yard. It was extremely overgrown with old, dead plants everywhere as well as grass that did not appear to have been mowed this year. The laundry room (separate building in back yard) was very dusty and dirty. Also, the lawn furniture was so dirty that we never used the outdoors. I'd love to see the owner invest a little time and effort in those things, and the place would be better. Still, we (three seniors) were overall happy with the rental!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I apologize about the yard but it has been taken care of and is looking beautiful now. The grill is a good idea and I will take care of that ASAP. I will also make sure the patio furniture is clean. It's hard to keep anything dust free with the wind and dry climate but we will make an attempt. Thanks so much for your stay and feedback.
