We live now in Raleigh, NC but grew up in Tennessee and love the Smokies, vacationing there many times throughout our lives. We love to travel, especially in the mountains, and wanted a place that we could meet our relatives from Nashville and where we could go with our children and grandchildren. We planned to retire to this area and bought this home ahead of time so that we and our families could enjoy it and build happy memories in this beautiful spot! We never tire of coming to the Smokies!
Susan and Jim Smith purchased this chalet in 1996
We hoped to retire in the Smokies one day and thought it would be ideal if we could buy a vacation home here. That was 15 years ago, and we have truly enjoyed being able to come here to the King of the Mountain. We love the Cobbly Nob area because it overlooks the national park and is far enough away from the crowds and tourist attractions to feel like you're immersed in the mountains. We have continually upgraded, remodeled and refurnished this mountain house over the years from a pink and gray, Japanese modern style (for real) to the rustic, craftsman-like decor it now has We continue to upgrade it (just finished totally remodeling 3 bathrooms which we stripped down to the studs) and try to make it a welcoming mountain retreat
King of the Mountain is 3 floors of spacious living with a lot of room for several families to spread out. We fell in love with this particular house originally because of the view. It is truly spectacular and inspirational --makes you truly appreciate God's creation! I have never seen as many stars in the sky as when we're there. We have seen black bears a few times and you can drive a couple of miles down the highway to the Greenbriar entrance to the national park and be in one of the most private places in the park -- a rushing mountain stream, lots of wildflowers, and just nature! We drive to the town of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge every day or so for a variety of restaurants and activities, but we really enjoy retreating to our mountain house in Cobbly Nob.
The description and pictures were very descriptive of the actual space.
We had a great time and the house was beautiful. The bedrooms were comfortable and it was very private eventhough it was in a neighborhood of several homes.
I strongly recommend it and would easily book again in the Future!
Great place! It was a surprise birthday get together for our family, all 19 of us. Plenty of room and gorgeous view. Highly recommend!
This was our first time in the Smoky Mountains and at the King of the Mountain and we had an absolutely wonderful time!! The cabin was exactly how it was pictured plus more! We had 3 families and we had plenty of room. Our younger kids played in the game room with the Foose table, watched tv & played with their toys on the deck with the beautiful view of the mountains. 0ur older kids used the hot tub, the pool table and really appreciated the wi-fi access. We had fun during the day and slept soundly like bears at night on the comfortable beds. As a mom, I appreciated all the details like the extra blankets, the washer & dryer, and the well stocked cookware in the kitchen (it even had a blender!). I was able to cook meals and also baked a birthday cake for our nephew. We enjoyed all the sights for all ages: Dollywood Splash Country, fishing, hiking, downtown Gatlinburg, and zip-lining!! Thanks for the memories we created here! Can't wait to come back!
Had a wonderful time. The whole family was here and the place worked well for us. Beautiful view and plenty of room.
Our whole family enjoyed our stay. The views were breathtaking, and the cabin was very comfortable. Our children took turns making meals, and the kitchen was well supplied with dishes and utensils. The dining area was large enough for meals and games. The grandchildren loved the game room and being able to have a big slumber party at night. The location is great for exploring the park or going into town. Don't let the comments about taking the garbage to the rental office bother you. It isn't that far, and we just took turns when we were going somewhere. Bring your family and go home with some great pictures and memories.
My entire family (14 of us!) stayed at King Of The Mountain for a week to celebrate my mom and dad's 45th wedding anniversary. We could not have asked for a nicer home! The view was so relaxing and so amazing. There was nothing this home did not provide. We were able to spend time all together and even cook meals instead of having to go out to eat. I would definitely recommend staying here again!
