Xbalanque has been a family project.
My background is Interior Design and I am a builder. My husbands also builds and designs and built all the stainless railings. My son designed and hand made the firepit on the rooftop. My daughter is in charge of marketing. Building on a tropical island has been my most rewarding endeavor. I have put my heart and soul into Xbalanque and hope to create a memorable place for a lot of people. My favorite thing to do in Roatan, aside from building, is to explore the island. The island is so beautiful and fun to explore. I also love to be on and in the water. The diving here is spectacular and with having our own boat, we can explore unspoiled sites.
The name Xbalanque comes from Mayan mythology. Xbalanque and Hunaphu were
sports twins. They conquered the underworld and became the sun and the moon. My son and daughter are twins and are very competitive runners. So Xbalanque has a very personal meaning for me.
Patsy Bracy purchased this hotel in 2010
We first visited Roatan in 2000 and fell in love with the beauty and the wonderful people.Roatan is a diving mecca and we went there to dive. We chose Roatan because of it is off the beaten path and is not as commercialized as many other islands. It still has a unique island charm.
There are many activities and opportunities in Roatan. The tropical beauty and the wonderful climate was appealing to us.
Xbalanque guests can dine at our private restaurant and bar.
We can cater to your individual dietary needs and desires, birthday
or any celebration. We can serve you under the stars, on the rooftop deck or on the water. Our private chef serves fresh cuisine.
Being a boutique hotel we offer you personal service. You can have a massage, practice yoga, go on a fishing trip, have a pedicure/manicure, private jewelry show, exercise in our facility,
play golf, zipline, swim with dolphins, kayak and snorkel the reef.
Whatever your desire is we can make it happen.
We did an enormous amount of research before deciding to spend a week in October at the XBalanque resort (at the moment more of a boutique hotel, but in the process of expanding -- without sprawling). Several times a day we patted ourselves on the back -- it was an excellent decision. My boyfriend was previously more of a backpacker kind of guy, whereas I prefer luxury and comfort, and having traveled the world I can honestly say that XBalanque is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The setting is truly out of this world. Not only are the views breathtaking at every time of day or night, but the design of the hotel will wow anyone with an eye for architecture or aesthetics. Patsy not only designed a stunning and discreet hotel (though oustanding enough that anyone who shared a water taxi with us swooned with envy whenever we pulled up to the dock), but she also curated is with some truly breathtaking artworks, most of them from her trip to Indonesia.
We stayed in the one bedroom suite and, while we almost opted for a larger room for the sake of more space, we were happy with the decision we made and never once felt cramped or claustrophobic in our room. The room was well-equipped, and very well insulated; we couldn't hear a thing outside, and with that tremendously comfortable bed, this makes it altogether too easy to sleep in and opt for an afternoon dive instead of the early morning dive. The exceptional security at the hotel also contributed to many peaceful nights of sleep.
Patsy's partner, Marco, met us at the hotel and drove us first to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials, and then to the hotel. He showed us our room, where we were greeted by a nice bottle of red wine and about a dozen fresh Honduran bananas (the best bananas I've tasted in my life). We left our bags and immediately went to the dining area where Pedro had already prepared us a pitcher of fresh juice, and then he made us a delicious dinner -- the first of many that we enjoyed during our stay.
The food at XBalanque is so fine, and the setting is so breathtaking, that leaving the hotel for dinner elsewhere in Roatan begins to feel odd. You nearly expect the dining options on the rest of the island to correspond somehow to what and where you eat at the hotel -- but really even at the best restaurants we ate at outside the resort (Oasis made excellent green curry chicken, as well as a wonderful lamb vindaloo), they nonetheless fall short where ambiance is concerned. We made
We decided to make Roatan, Honduras our honeymoon destination. We did an exhausting amount of online research in the hope of finding the perfect place to stay. We chose Xbalanque and were extremely happy with the choice. Even on a budget, Xbalanque has something for everyone. It is the perfect location for a secluded, relaxing, romantic vacation, but is within walking (or water taxi) distance of both West End & West Bay when you want more to do. Patsy is a tremendous host & was available with suggestions & assistance for anything we needed. Pedro is the personal chef and makes the most delicious meals to order. We especially loved the coconut bread with homemade mango jam, the tortilla soup, the salsa & guacamole with plantains, and of course the most amazing seafood paella we have ever tried! Everything is fresh & flavorful, not to mention the fact that Pedro is so sweet & friendly. The entire staff is so accomodating. From setting out your kayaks or paddleboards to fresh towels or a trip to the grocery store, everyone is so helpful & pleasant. The beach is beautiful & well kept (raked daily). The sunset is breathtaking & there is no substitute for a quiet afternoon reading in the hammocks on the private pier. Marco picked us up at the airport on the first day & is clearly a good man to know since he knows everyone around. Any excursion you want to do, he can make happen. He showed up one afternoon excitedly talking about a whale shark sighting off shore. Next thing you know we were with Patsy on the Xbalanque boat & alongside a 30 foot whale shark out in the deep blue ocean. A very cool opportunity! We spent our days kayaking out to the reef just off shore in front of the resort & snorkled with sea turtles, sting rays, and all types of beautifully colored ocean fish.
Thank you everyone at Xbalanque for making our honeymoon a most memorable trip!!!
I was looking for a getaway, a place to unwind, for a couple of days and a friend had stayed here and recommended it and I couldn't have been happier. Patsy and her staff are welcoming and friendly and available without being intrusive. Pedro, the chef, is excellent and makes fresh meals daily. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed with quality furniture and appliances and is very tastefully decorated. And, unlike most places, the beds are comfortable. The place just exudes a welcoming, calming vibe. Everything you want to do is within a few minutes, including fishing, diving (which is excellent as the reef is only 1/2 mile off shore) and island night life. Nothing is over priced or under delivered. I will definitely go back - often.
The website is very accurate about the location, amenities, etc. but it doesn't do justice to how delightful and accomodating everyone associated with this resort are to their guests. It is hard to believe that you are staying at a resort and not at the home of very good friends. The suites are modern, clean, spacious and unique. The meals at the resort were incredibly fresh and delicious. The grounds are fascinating with various pieces of art displayed around the property and everything, even the sand, meticulously groomed. Spa services, kayaking & snorkeling equipment are available to all guests. We were made aware of other activities that were available around the island. I visited as part of a group on a yoga retreat but I would certainly return & would encourage friends & family to experience this lovely hotel and all the people who work there. Thanks Patsy!
My husband and I were married at xbalanque in early march 2012. We initially fell in love with the geography and topography of the island. It captures mountain, jungle, beach, flats, reef and deep ocean (2000' on the far side of the reef) in a remarkably compact space. Enamored of the island we began searching for accommodations. We found xbalanque on homeaway and were thrilled by how perfect is seemed. It was just the right size, offered the peace of privacy, the convenience of accessibility, abounding adventure opportunities and all of this packaged in what appeared to be five star luxury. With 30 guests that were generously donating their vacation time and budgets to join us for our wedding, we felt an enormous responsibility to ensure a stellar vacation. Xbalanque seemed like our oyster, but was it too good to be true? In our experience, marketing materials over promise and under deliver. So, we scheduled a trip to visit xbalanque and hopefully confirm that this jewel of a spot was as it seemed on the Internet.
From the moment we made contact with pasty, we were warmly embraced and our hopes for the place soared even higher. Patsy was incredibly accommodating from the start and shared our excitement about the possibility of a wedding there. As soon as we mentioned our reconnaissance trip she made arrangements to be there with us. She helped us plan our trip and met us with a smile at the airport. From the instant we landed to the moment we left, patsy and her local partners Marco and Delzie rolled out the red carpet for us.
Arriving at xbalanque blew our minds. The resort far exceeded our expectations, an entirely too rare phenomenon in these days of inflated advertising. Channeling far east spa every space is a unique expression of Patsy's talent. Fully designed and decorated by patsy, xbalanque is in perfect harmony with its environment and is an inviting escape from reality. We couldn't imagine a more ideal setting.
The local connections that Marco and Delzie bring are invaluable. From organizing fishing and diving trips with the convenience of dockside pick up to ordering the freshest seafood for a beach bake complete with fire dancers and local music, they can accommodate any request. We quickly discovered the unmatched charm of not only the physical accomodations but also the customer service that xbalanque offers. Our decision was a no-brainier, and we left the island eagerly anticipating the privilege of bringing ou
This boutique resort was so much more than could possibly be expected. From day one to the last day we enjoyed amazing things to do, more than perfect accommodations and a myriad of choices of what to do each day, although laying out at the infinity pool by the bar was a definite 'do' as well. WE snorkeled and dove going out on an exbalanque boat in the area reefs!!. We ran and walked the beach. I bought jewelry from a lady the owner knew and asked to come by to show us her wares. I had a pedicure in house, a massage in house; we had excellent gourmet dinners right at the resort. The food in house, (and there is a full kitchen in the room too!), was better than anything you could get out, even at the best resorts). Any trips we had help from the owners with transportation, or information provided so we could get transportation. Some of the guests went on fishing expeditions for which the area is noted for--on an xbalanque boat! We didn't have a chance to zip line or go to the Dolphin encounter. Definitely have to go back to do those two things. The flora and fauna on land...and in the water were the most spectacular we've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. No less spectacular was the service and detail AND intense attention by the owners to provide whatever we were looking for! The accommodations were exceptional--well air-conditioned rooms/bedrooms/bathrooms with separate zone air-conditioners, plush mattresses, full ocean views, even a wine-cooler, along with our own washer/dryers--all first-class. Am still amazed. Never been anywhere like Xbalanque resort.
Xbalanque is located on the sea with kayaks provided for snorkeling on the reef. You can walk to Gumbo Limbo Park, West End village, and West Bay beach where there are many restaurants, bars and shops. South shore canopy tour is only 4 minutes at the top of the hill to Xbalanque. Horseback riding on the beach is available. Xbalanque charters two boats for deep water fishing, island tour tours and snorkel tours. With our own private pier, fishing and swimming are right at your door.
Xbalanque is conveniently located to nightlife and bars, but it is a quiet retreat nestled between West Bay and West End, the best of both worlds.
