Cruz Bay House Rental Photos and Description
2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Loft, Sleeps 6
Island Living is the private home of St. John Artist/Photographer Constance Wallace, who is taking time away from the island to travel.
Island Living is located off the South Shore Road, about a mile from the town of Cruz Bay, near The Westin Resort. The home overlooks Cruz Bay, Pillsbury Sound & St. Thomas. It shares a quiet, private road with 2 other homes. It's possible to walk down to town BUT the roads are VERY steep and narrow & walking back UP is difficult. While you'll be able to get a taxi to bring you home, it's best to arrange in advance when you want to have one pick you up at the house. For the most enjoyable vacation, we recommend you rent a vehicle.
The Great Room is at the center of the house. It includes the kitchen, dining bar & living room. The two Bedrooms are mirror images of each other, one on each side of the Great Room. A large, outdoor, covered deck spans the Great Room & both Bedrooms, facing the view. That entire side of the house has sliding glass doors and screens. Every room is airy & has high ceilings with tropical fans.
Each Queen Bedroom has its own 10,000 BTU A/C, full bath with shower & tub & a separate loft area for additional sleeping with Full bed.
Island Living has been well cared for and well maintained. The attention of an enthusiastic owner in residence is obvious both inside & out. The property around the home contains pebbled pathways that wind gracefully through the native gardens and natural volcanic rock features.
The main part of the home was designed & built using Cypress & other local hardwoods in 1980 by a local builder who had an idea that was original at the time?that some visitors to the island might like to rent a house for their stay. Then, the primary choices of accommodations for visitors to St. John were either the luxury of Caneel Bay or the adventure of camping at Cinnamon Bay or Maho Bay. Constance Wallace purchased Island Living from him in 1985 and began living there. In 1991, she added a separate apartment below that she used as an office, studio & gallery. That part of the house is occupied year round by another St. John artist. The main (upper) part of the home is available & described here.
