Memories, family and weddings
We planned this family trip at the wish of my sister who has terminal cancer. When booking I had let Andy, the property manager know why we were coming to Saint Martin and he and the owner's were amazing in accommodating us and providing helpful advice for our stay. From meeting us at the airport, helping us with our rental vehicle and transporting all of our luggage - there was 18 of us - Andy, Cathy, Tony and Joelle were wonderful. The cleaning staff was there every day and always willing to help if we had questions - especially with kitchen appliances! Villa Joelle was amazing - gorgeous views, clean and bright surroundings and an wonderfully peaceful ambiance, which was just what we needed. We did our own grocery shopping and ate down at the Radisson resort a few times, mostly at Tony's restaurant - highly recommended! We also had a surprise wedding to plan when my sister's boyfriend proposed to her - Tony and Andy worked hard to find an official who would come to the villa to perform a ceremony for the engaged couple. It made for a very special and magical day. Our group ranged in age from 7 to 84 and everyone was very pleased with their rooms and surroundings. The pool was used frequently and kept very clean. We did have a some issues with the air conditioning in a couple of the rooms, and the water pressure in the upper floor showers, but these issues were looked after quickly. When you are in paradise the minor things really don't matter! Our group had rented three vehicles, which we used for our day trips and going out to dinner a few of the nights. We toured the island, some of the group went scuba diving, some parasailing, and we took a sailboat cruise on the Random Wind from Simpson Bay on our last full day. Weather was great, although a touch windy for the last two days which made the sailing day a little rough - the crew modified the sail so we spent more time stationary, swimming and snorkeling.
Staying in a villa is definitely not for everyone - no all inclusive meals or drinks, no scheduled entertainment or activities, but if you are not into the resort scene this type of vacation is perfect. Our young people probably would have preferred the resort lifestyle, but they managed just fine and took a cab out one night to check out the local night-life. This vacation has provided us with some wonderful memories and we are very grateful that we found Villa Joelle. I know some of us would go back there in a heartbeat :).
