About my kottages:
Nestled on Kalamazoo College’s scenic campus, this fully renovated, historic beauty is home to three very cozy “kottages”, referring to the feel and style of the interior spaces.
Like most homes in the neighborhood, it was built as a single family home and later converted into three separate living spaces.
After 17 years of ownership; classic urban lodging for modern travelers was a natural transition for this work in progress.
All three private Kottages within this 3 unit home are furnished with all the comforts of home, including a well stocked kitchen, cozy living room, separate bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. Plus, all the warm touches you’d expect from a beloved B&B– like fireplaces, beds you melt into, European-style breakfast treats and even mini-bars.
What makes us unique from other lodging choices:
If you’re seeking an innovative and modern b&b experience, you’ll enjoy our notion of doing something different rather than doing the same thing better.
However, if what you’re seeking is a traditional b&b experience which includes prepared breakfast with other guests, daily housekeeping, frequent interactions with the innkeeper and renting only one room, I might recommend another option.
Kara’s Kottaages offers much more privacy, flexibility and space than most b&b’s, which includes self check-in’s at anytime, kottages that can accommodate entire families, diy meals of what you want when you want, the option to host small gatherings indoors or out and an innkeeper who does not enter the kottage unless requested to do so.
Each kottage is lovingly designed for those who wish to be on their own schedule in a peaceful and private space without the constant presence of a live-in innkeeper and other guests.
The Drift Wood Kottage:
Our 2nd floor, 2-bedroom, 1 bath Kottage sleeps 5. This warm, loft style space has an open concept living room and kitchen that is separated by a quaint, eat-in dining peninsula. Furnishings include a lush sofa, chair and ottoman, electric fireplace, flat screen television and many more comforts. The 2 spacious bedrooms include queen beds in each and an additional pull out twin sleeper in one of the bedrooms. The private bathroom offers a tub and shower surround with lots of natural lighting.
Help yourself to breakfast in your private, well stocked kitchen including such breakfast treats as eggs, sausage patties and links, bacon, waffles, pancake, scone & muffin mix, oatmeal and farina, assorted cereals, granola, yogurt, Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, breakfast bars, bagels, English Muffins, dried fruit and coffee, assorted teas, juice and milk/creamer.
This unique location is surrounded by 3 historic and architecturally interesting neighborhoods; Stuart, Vine & West Main Hill. All of which are great for walking and taking in the colorful and ornate homes as well as the Colleges nestled amongst them.
This location is also central to lots of shopping, great restaurants, recreation trails, museums, theaters, festival sites and much, much more!
It's even within a short drive to the shores of Lake Michigan, lots of inland lakes, ski resorts and recreational parks.
Available for daily, weekly or monthly rental, this Kalamazoo Bed and Breakfast is a great choice for business or pleasure.

I am a Michigan native with an appreciation for historic homes, a passion for good design and a love for the planet.
I moved to Kalamazoo from the Shores of Lake Michigan in 1990 to attend college. I remained in Kalamazoo because of the youthful energy, amazing people and an up and coming direction which has since been realized.
In my spare time, when I’m not combing the earth for treasures to use in my Kalamazoo Bed and Breakfast, I’m exploring life with my husband, Dean. We enjoy participating in recreational sports, the company of our friends & family and traveling.. All while being responsible stewards of the planet.
I’m also know around town as ‘The Painted Lady’, the proud owner of a painting, restoration and home improvement consulting business of 16 years called, Painted Lady.
