Betty’s Beach house is an estate that spans over ¾ acre in the heart of Geneva-on-the-lake. This grand old house that belonged to our mother, Betty, is a delightful escape from the dull drums of mid America.
The memories of our adventures at the lake home, such as the roar of the waves crashing on the beach and break wall, the early morning assembly of family members and friends awaiting the most fabulous freshly made donuts (I mean minutes fresh) from Madsen Donuts (80 years and still cooking), then we would decide on the evening meal. We love to cook and eat from grilling out to attempting to prepare a gourmet meal just for the challenge. After the morning rituals are concluded our choice of excursions or adventures are very long; swimming, boating, fishing, scuba diving, going to popular beaches were usual at the top of the list but we were very competitive so croquet, badminton, lawn jarts, tennis, put-put, go carts, frisbee or inside games on a rainy day consumed most of our days. Then of course there is the strip with its game rooms, gift shops, junk foods, magic shops, wineries and more. This place is like a mini Key West.
The Geneva strip to this day exudes a nostalgic feel out of the 50’s or 60’s, old cars cruise the strip, many stop and hand out at Eddies Grill that is still owned and ran as it was in the 50’s and 60’s. There are a few really great restaurants in the area (we offer a list and menus at the cottage).
Our goal is to offer our home as it was when we used it complete with a kitchen ready to make culinary delight or a grill for the outdoor cooking scene to the games we played as well as our insights to adventure we enjoyed and where to look to find you own.
Seasonal Rental Period: Our season for rentals runs May 1 through October 31.
My family has been vacationing in Geneva-on-the-Lakes since the early 50's. We started out at The Zimmerman cottages for many years and then when I was about 12 we bought next door at Poplar Breeze Cottages. When I finished college, I would look along the lake and make a list of homes that had potential and when this home came available, my parents bought it. My parents are pictured here and we have had so many fond memories and great adventures here at the lake.
Andy & Lisa Birrell purchased this house in 1987
We realized the potential this home had when we bought it; it is located on three lots, it is situated about 30 feet above Lake Erie and is on a quiet street just beyond the Geneva-on-the-Lake mile long strip leaving us within walking distance of the many attractions. We have made many improvements throughout the years to make our home on the lake a very comfortable and enjoyable place to spend time with family and friends. We have several more projects in mind and will continue to work them in as the time allows.
A great front porch to watch passer-by's; a fabulous screened/glassed in sun room to relax and watch the activity on of the lake or watch the sun go down; several decks to choose from, one just outside the sun room and one down by the water; not to mention a 60' finger pier that you can fish from. What else do you need when you are looking for peace and tranquility?
Betty's Beach House is a sweet old house that's been well cared for. We were pleased to find the house extremely clean. Comfortable beds were made and all linens newer and clean. Generous supply of towels - all bright white. Kitchen, bathrooms, and rest of house was well stocked with whatever you may need. We arrived late at night and had forgotten a few things, so it was nice to have what we needed and replenish it before leaving. Nice, newer outdoor grill. Front porch looked like it had just been painted and had new comfortable cushioned outdoor furniture. This was a favorite place to spend evenings as there was always a nice breeze. We were visiting family in the area and hosted several cookouts during the week. The extra lawn chairs and outdoor games were put to good use. Having a spacious lot to play football and corn hole was great. Temps were in the 90s the first couple of days. Thankfully, there were plenty of fans and we brought 2 extra just in case. We had a back bedroom and between the sound of the water and the fans, never noticed any noise during the night. The back sunroom/porch has large screened windows that let in the breeze along with a ceiling fan and is very spacious as is the deck - great for relaxing and entertaining - plenty of seating. Enjoyed morning coffee on the lower deck by the water, watching sunsets, and strolling along the strip. Owner, Lisa, and Manager, Maggie, very pleasant to deal with. Enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you!!
Betty's Beach house was the perfect place to stay on the lake! The screened in porch, the deck, and the beach behind the house provided privacy to enjoy the lake. The house was clean and very well stocked, especially the kitchen. Anything you need to cook is in the house when you get there! We had a great experience and would recommend staying here to anyone visiting GOTL.
My husband and I have been coming to the GOTL area for many years, boating, camping and just enjoying the area. We have stayed at many different locations from the worst motels to the Lodge at Geneva State Park to other rental homes and this by far was the best and our favorite.
This lovely home had everything we were looking for....close to the Strip yet far enough away to be private and quiet. Private beach, easy access to the beach, beautiful lake views (some of the pictures I took are unbelievable). The home also had everything you need to prepare home cooked meals.
The owner was a pleasure to work with - very quick response.
Just pack your clothes and personal items and you'll be set!
I love to come to Geneva on the Lake every summer, but never did much planning, so I would end up with last minute, overpriced, dirty little cottages year after year. So this year I did my homework and booked this home 8 months in advance. I wanted to make sure that I get a clean place and have a private access beach, but very close (like few minutes walking distance) to all the entertainment that Geneva on the Lake has to offer. This was the perfect place.
Upon arrival I was not dissapointed: the home is charming, clean and well stacked with all the amenities. The view of the lake from the back porch was amazing. The best part was to be able to walk down to the beach from the porch without packing for a beach outing.
The owner only mentioned the bathroom on the second floor, but there is another shower and toilet in the basement where the washer and dryer are. It came in very handy when we were all getting ready for an outing.
The owner provided great customer service, I would reccommend this home for everyone.
Coming from a family who is used to staying in a rental cottage, this was heaven!! The home is well stocked with sheets and towels. The kitchen has everything you need. We were thoroughly impressed! When we arrived, it was spotless and had a wonderful yard - the best on the street!! Everything was within walking distance. We had a great time and hope to be back next year.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!! Without a doubt, we would recommend this. Now if we could just fix the darned Ohio weather!! ;)
This stately lakefront home is situated on a large, beautiful lot which sits about 30 feet above Lake Erie. There are several levels of decks from which you may relax and enjoy being on the water or take in waterfront activities along the beach. We are located in a quiet residential area at the furthest end of the strip. You can easily walk to the many attractions or restaurants on the strip or just simply hang out and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of this lovely home. This is a non-smoking residence.
Geneva-on-the-lake Strip: This is a fun, tourist town that comes alive in the summer time. There are many cottages woven throughout the Geneva-on-the-Lake community along with The Lodge for resort lodging and a fabulous dining experience at the restaurant on sight; there is an RV park around the corner, and Geneva State Park & Marina about 1/4 mile from the beginning of the strip. These surroundings make for thriving tourist offerings such as restaurants, bars, charter fishing, water activities, shopping, night clubs, putt putt, a water park, and much more.
Geneva State Park & Marina: Where the lake meets the land; mature woods and a freshwater marsh create the landscape of Geneva State Park , an ideal environment for exploration and play. The marina features ample boat docks with 407 slips and transient docking. A six-lane boat ramp gives you plenty of room to head out into the wild blue yonder. Charter a fishing boat to experience the “walleye capital of the world.” Pick up bait and tackle supplies, fishing licenses, boat accessories, apparel and souvenirs or enjoy the convenience of the fish cleaning services. Full-service boat repair is also available, along with a fueling station and boat and trailer storage to safely store your pride and joy until the next season. Stop by the deli and canteen to stock up on picnic supplies or grab thirst quenching beverages, juicy hamburgers, ready-to-eat sandwiches, tasty snacks and ice cream after a day on the lake.
