Week stay at well located Canal basement apartment

  • 4 of 5
The location was very central to museums and sights. A bit of a walk from the train station but there are public transportation options. The entry and washer/dryer in the basement is common for the apartments above but the bedroom/bath is lockable & private. The kitchen (sink, ref, hotplate) is in between these 2 areas. There is a back door to a nice garden area off the bedroom. This door and a window does provide quite a bit of light. A curtain on the window would be helpful as the morning sunlight shines in. Wi-Fi does not work in this room but there is wired internet. No TV. The ceilings are quite low so beware if you are about 5'9" or taller. The bathtub/shower has a bit less head clearance in the beam areas. The sauna serves double duty as the closet. Not for someone looking for a modern, luxurious place to stay but it was great for me: private, clean, comfortable, quiet, and centrally located. The host was very nice and pleasant.

Great Find, Quiet Private, Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5
I stayed here for three nights and it was a perfect spot for me. If your looking for the sheen of a hotel and someone to make your bed, this place probably isn't for you, but if you're looking for a place where you're not hearing doors slam and neighbors romping around, this is it. It's a quirky unit (entry through common basement, low ceilings, eclectic furnishings, unique bathroom), but that's the charm of it. The private garden was really nice and the place was clean. I stayed here for three nights and enjoyed having a private place to myself, where I felt safe since I was traveling alone. It was easy to get to-take the bus from the airport to the end. It was walking distance to everything. This was a stopover before another trip and it was nice to be able to do laundry before I left. Anne Marie was easy to communicate with and very nice. The price was a real value.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5
We are a family of 4 who stayed here for 1 week in July 2012 and it definitely exceeded our expectations. The location was optimal, apartment spacious and comfortable and the kitchen well set up for cooking. We also enjoyed the outdoor terrace out the back as well as the lovely boat out front. Although the stairs were steep and we had a crazy rainstorm which flooded the entrance, we feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful spot. We hope to return again and would come right back here if possible.

Beautiful place, great location!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for five days and enjoyed every moment. The apartment is located in one of the most picturesque canals in Amsterdam, which is a wonderful place to be in the city. The area is quaint and quiet, but close enough to walk to anything you'd like to do in the city. This place a truly a hidden gem! We hope to visit again in the future.

Wonderful Apartment

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to Amsterdam, we stayed in the apartment for 5 days and had a wonderful time. The apartment is located on a gorgeous canal, it is close to all the sights yet in a relatively quiet part of town. We enjoyed relaxing on the boat, cooking meals in the well equipped kitchen, and taking in the canal and street views from the large front windows. The apartment is right down the street from the Anne Frank House, an easy walk to central Amsterdam, and there was easy access to canal tours, light rail and bus stops. There are plenty of cafes and bars very close by. I highly recommend staying here, the owner was very kind and easy to work with, she also gave us plenty of good advice. We will be coming back to Amsterdam (soon I hope!) and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Garden room, plain and simple

  • 3 of 5
We stayed in the garden room during our stay in Amsterdam. The best thing about the place is its great location right on one of the canals and easy walking distance to any part of the city.
Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to use the boat as the owner was vacationing on it during our stay. The ceiling in the garden room is short as advertised and considering that I am 5'10 I had to bend my head to walk in certain parts and several times hit my head in the door way. The place is a bit dark but is alright once you turn all of the lights on. No tv and a few instances of bugs. No door to the bathroom which was interesting as you get to know your significant other pretty well after the trip.

Owner's Response: Wonderful they liked our spot but It's a pithy because the boat is right at the front door like manny boats are. I was on vacation yes .....but not on the boat to Italy but by airplane ….. if they had asked our household they had been sitting on the boat.
