About The Owner

Hi, We're Ed and Margaret Pavey. We had been traveling to the Upper Peninsula for many years to enjoy boating, snowmobiling, and both downhill and cross country skiing. In l994 we retired to the UP to enjoy all of our hobbies and even finding a few more. Retirement has kept us busy trying to keep up with the Yoopers.! Wonderful people. We decided to rent our guest house during the summer months in 2011. We had guests from as far away as Texas and Florida. It was a pleasure to share our cottage. We are looking forward to another fun summer in 2013. We are not youngsters any more but are still young at heart. Have been active in the Lion's Club, Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club and Les Cheneaux Arts Council.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1986
Why The Owner chose Cedarville

As an elderly neighbor once described the area as 'The Les Cheneaux Islands being the closest place to paradise on this earth.' We still believe this to be true. Every day is like viewing a new painting as the seasons change. Cedarville is a friendly community and everyone is always willing to help others. The summer residents are all part of the 'family.' We reside in Clark Township. In the winter months the population is approx. 2000 while the summer population increases to approx. 8,000. Families return year after year to enjoy our great outdoors. We always felt that we were on vacation as soon as we crossed the great Mackinac Bridge.

What makes this cottage unique

Some of the benefits while staying at our property are calm waters within the Islands for kayaking, boating, jet skiing and fishing. There is also hiking, biking, sightseeing, our new library, art classes, community activities such as parades, boat show, art exhibits, museums, dinners by various clubs and many restaurants to visit. Of couse, one can also remain on the property and just relax and watch the wild life and the world go by.

Also, we have a large supermarket in town so there is no need to bring bags and bags of groceries from home. Lots more room in your car for playthings. We also have several gift shops, restaurants, gas stations, marina and hardware stores. Our local library has computers for use.

Canoeing, art classes throughout summer, public library, golfing at local courses, casinos. Day trips to Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, Sault Ste. Marie MI and Ontario, Detour and Drummond Island. In addition, boat tours and charter fishing trips are available. Welcome center is located in Cedarville and Amy will be most happy to assist you.

We just returned from the Pavey house and miss the peace and tranquility! It was the perfect place to enjoy tthe clear, bountiful waterways, the wildlife, and the beautiful views. We were really lucky fishing, as well.
Ed and Margaret are the perfect hosts; they thought of everything! The house has everything you could need and then some. They gave us a warm welcome then left us to our privacy. It was nice to know they were close-by should be need anything. We hope to return next year, but stay longer!

We are avid boaters and this cottage was perfect. We had a dock for our 28 ft. boat with plenty of water. The beach isn't very sandy, but perfect for my kids to throw rocks. We visited many sandy, local beaches by boat with the kids. The cottage was well-stocked, super clean, and quiet. We had a wonderful time and would vacation there again.

Our summer trip of 2011

5 of 5
Submitted: February 12, 2012 Stayed: August 2011
My wife and I own a cabin on Burt lake, just south of the bridge for over 28 years. We still make it a point to travel at least a week a summer to find other Michigan hot spots. Having a large boat we always stayed at a marinas. Selling the boat we now have a center console and needless to say we need a place to stay. These island always have been of our summer water trips and finding this cottage was a diamond in the rough. The host are fantastic, the property is very peaceful. The fixed dock easily handled our 24' with electric and great tie ups. The water still plenty deep enough considering the lake levels this is hard to find. I draft 3' and never was close to bottom. You could easily bring in a 30-40' boat with no issues. If your looking for a boating destination trip where you could come back to daily and barbecue on the dock or sit and have cocktails this is the place. Swimming at the site would be tough from the beach but the dock ladder is very efficient and water crystal clear. The cottage is very clean, beds comfortable, kitchen supplied and the owners cabin is on site but not an issue for privacy but a great location if you need any help. I would recommend this to any boaters, hikers, mountain bikers, of a place to read a book and hear a occasional boat pass bye....The islands you can really explore by boat, my advice is to boat here or at least trailer one and leave daily to see what the chain of island offer.....

Owner's Response: As owners of the above guest house. we agree wholeheartedly with renters' review. It is our goal to make one's vacation as memorable as possible. Boating in the Islands is superb and you are always able to leave the dock and feel safe within the Islands even though it is rough and windy on Lake Huron. We have always tried to accommodate boaters with complimentary transportation to town.

Welcome to our piece of paradise!!
