We're American expats that came to El Salvador to surf and never left! We built our dream house and had 3 children here. This house was built with family and friends in mind.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
We loved this location because it is so close to so many places to surf. We're within walking distance to Sunzal, just 15 minutes west from Punta Roca and 15 minutes east of El Zonte. We're also just 40 minutes from the airport, and 40 minutes from San Salvador so everything we need is nearby.
It's minutes from the beach where you can find the best Salvadoran coffee (at Dale Dale Cafe!), incredible seafood restaurants, a short trip to the city and to the mountains and even neighboring countries. The most unique and best thing about it here, though, are the people.
After spending a week at Casa Azul, we just wanted to stay. The owners clearly put their hearts into designing this funky, beautiful, kid-friendly home. Our 2 year old loved being able to go in and out of the gradual-entry pool and exploring all the kids toys. I loved the american-style kitchen will all the amenities I am used to. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all beautiful and very comfortable. But really what takes this place over-the-top are the sunsets over the infinity pool (ok, and sitting on the deck and looking at the stars at night, too).
It is super easy to get over to the beach, run into El Tunco for supplies or go over to my favorite restaurant in El Salvador - Ola Beto's, just down the road.
The place isn't brand new anymore, and has a bit of wear and tear, but hardly noticed after settling in.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Azul for a long weekend in February and absolutely loved the place! Its a huge house for 2 girlfriends on vacation with each other to stay but it was really a gorgeous house. Jeannie and her property management team were really helpful with organizing our stay and arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and driven back to the airport by a really friendly driver who didn't mind stopping by the grocery store on the way. The house is in a really lovely and impressive hillside development right across the street from the main beach in El Tunco. As the house is located up several steep hills I'd recommend you rent a car if you have a big family to wrangle as walking up the hills would probably be too much for small kids but since it was just the two of us adults, the hill actually gave us some added excercise. We felt 100% safe the entire time given there is security at the gate and personnel that patrol the neighborhood. Back to the house, its laid out perfectly for groups, has several large bedrooms great for adults and 2 bedrooms decorated more for children. The kitchen is perfect for preparing meals and has all the tools you might need. In addition, there's a lovely indoor eating space as well as a great outdoor patio with plenty of room for a group. The pool is really the piece de resistance with a stunning view of the ocean and is a great place to watch the sunset. The outdoor shower and side palapa with hammocks doesn't hurt either! In short, this place is an absolute steal with everything you'd need to accommodate a large group. If you have kids, even better as there are plenty of toys for them to play with. Next time we travel back to El Salvador we'll be sure to stay at Casa Azul. Loved it!!! Oh and there is a sweet doggie who lives on property who made us feel even safer (not that it was needed) and helped us get over missing our pets that we'd left at home. Wonderful!
We arrived to the home in the evening and immediately walked out to the back patio to hear the ocean. We had no idea what was beyond the pool but could only imagine from the sounds and smell of the water. We were not disappointed when we woke up in the morning to a spectacular view! The pool and patio became our primary location for the rest of our week at this beautiful house!
The bedrooms were all spacious and the air conditionings in the room were invaluable for the hot evenings. The decorating is eclectic and very interesting without being cluttered. The home was clean and gave us plenty of space for our group of 7 (6 adults 1 child).
Josefa cooked us breakfast every morning that we enjoyed on the patio! She also made us a few dinners and lunches that were all wonderful! I highly suggest you use her for cooking as well as cleaning...she is lovely and her and her daughter are very reliable! She did almost all of our shopping and this was beyond helpful and allowed us to enjoy every minute we had at the beach!
The location of the house was perfect. It was very quiet and private. The guards at the gate were nice for security purposes and we all felt completely safe. We were able to walk down to the beach from the house on several occasions. The walk back is a different story...all up hill, which is why you have such a beautiful view. A driver was easy to find and we used him the whole week. I left his information with the homeowner so he will be easy to find. Again, beyond helpful!
I would highly suggest this home! Thank You Jeanie!
We had an amazing stay at Casa Azul. The house was perfect for all of us. We were 3 moms travelling with our 5 kids, ages 7,6,5, and two 1.5 year olds. The house was more then set up for the kids, we didn't have to bring anything kid-related with us-all the toys, pool toys, beds, etc were there. Mike, the house manager, was very helpful. Among other things, he hooked us up with a family of fantastic babysitters and we utilize those lovely girls nearly everyday for a few hours so we could go surfing. The gardener was very approachable and kind and he, too, was very helpful with offering us local knowledge. On our first day Mike kindly took me around the town and showed me where everything was from the grocery store to the fish market, this was extremely helpful and we really appreciated all the time he took to take care of us. Jeanie was also amazing. She always responded promptly to my emails and gave me thoughtful responses to my questions. The house was even better then the photos, it was clean, well looked after, the kitchen was stocked with everything we could need and the beds were very comfortable. The house is on top of a very large hill, at first we saw this as quite a challenge with all our kids. In the end we loved the location. So tranquil, so relaxing. We had no problem renting a car from an awesome, friendly, considerate local guy who gave us a great rate. We were stoked to have the car!! It aloud us to drive to the markets in La Libertad, check out other surf breaks, head in and out of town easily with the kids. Every outing was an adventure with our crew and we soon were well known in El Tunco....
I could go on and on. We stayed 18 days and didn't want to leave. The surf was beyond good, the local people extremely friendly, the house absolutely fantastic. We all loved El Salvador. I highly recommend Casa Azul, I know I will be back...the only thing I missed was my hubby! Thank you Jeanie! Thank you Mike!
Awesome place, we found everything we needed.
The view is something else and we had easy access to one of the best waves in El Salvador. The pool experience is so relaxing at any time during the day.
Although you want to spend most of the time outside, the bedrooms are so comfortable you want to spend some time there too.
Thank you for letting us stay at this special place.
Thank you so much for renting your home to us. We really enjoyed our time at Casa Azul. I will never forget the view as we arrived at your home. The front door was open and you could see into the house, see the pool and in the distance you could see the ocean. Just awesome.
My wife and I brought our two kids with us (4 and 2). The house was perfect for us. The entire family enjoyed the pool. The house is fully equipped for children with movies, toys, a crib, stroller, etc.... The house is located up an enormous hill. However, we didn't rent a car. Don't get me wrong - at times I wish we had rented a car - but it isn't so bad. It makes for a good workout. Also, there is a cab driver who can drive you home from town for about $5.00.
I really don't have anything bad to say about our renting experience of the house. I really miss the house and I hope to go back someday!
