'Penthouse' is the premier luxury condo in the 3 unit Back Bay Cottage, located on the water on the fringe of downtown Boothbay Harbor. With a/c, 2 fireplaces, radiant in-floor heat, & R-53 insulation we're comfortable in any season.
Next to the Chowder House, steps away from the footbridge, this location is both quiet and convenient. Over thirty restaurants, coffee shops, and delis, together with stores, marinas, tour boats, fishing and sailing charters, the library and even the opera house are within easy walking distance.
Built in 2006 on the site of a former fishermen's co-op dock, the Back Bay Cottage's architecture emulates the turn-of-the-20th-century 'gentleman's cottage'. Penthouses' interior combines the charming traditional 'Down-East' bead-board detail with authentic European country antiques and original maritime art and boat models.
Comforts include air conditioning, two gas fireplaces, a 'great-room' state-of-the-art country kitchen with its granite work areas separated from the living areas by a large butcher block island; a 24 bottle wine cooler, an extensive DVD video and CD music collection, Wi-Fi, stereos, flat screen TVs, gas BBQ, about 40 feet of windows overlooking the water and a deck with stunning views of the harbor.
We provide all linens, towels, paper products, condiments, a 'welcome' basket & some complimentary wine & coffee.
We have plenty of on-site parking - even for an RV.
'Starboard', the 1 bedroom/1 bath condo unit (sleeps 2) located below the 'Penthouse' can be rented in conjunction with it at discounted rates. (See VRBO # 389011)
Penthouse shares a dock & float with the other two units. Not for large boats because you have to fit beneath the footbridge, the float is perfect for kayaks, canoes and dinghys.

This is our retirement home. I'm a property developer and boat designer, she's an European antique dealer and interior designer, and we're both ocean sailors.
We combined our talents to create the most comfortable, user friendly, casual floorplan we could envision and then surrounded ourselves with the antiques and marine art that we both love.
We hope you like it as much as we do!
Tony Seibert purchased this condo in 2006
We live high in the Colorado mountains - in ski country, but we really missed the ocean - and sailing. We also like living in resorts - because of the great variety of restaurants.
So we spent 8 years exploring the East Coast in search of Nirvana - and kept coming back to Maine - looking for the right combination of small town/rustic/amenity laden/harbor town.
Boothbay Harbor combined the character and aesthetics of a small, old fashioned fishing village with the amenities of a resort destination without any extravagances.
Just large enough to have a golf course, a botanical garden, a first class 'Y', library, theatre, and some shopping, it provided enough diversity of activities without being too 'country-clubish' and with no mainstreet cookie-cutter retail.
BBH also boasts one of the largest and finest harbors in Maine - perfect for small boat sailing.

Whether its high tide watching the kayakers or low tide watching the gulls swoop in to pick up shellfish - anytime on our deck with coffee or a drink is the ultimate in relaxation..
Then we might wander downtown - which starts at our front door - to any one of a number of the town's fine restaurants - Ebb Tide or Andrews Harborside for breakfast, or McSeagulls or Ports of Italy for dinner.
Walking is a key benefit to this location.
Staying at Portside within the Backbay Cottage condominium affords remarkable comfort. The kitchen and bedrooms were thoughtfully laid out, with relaxing seating, full size appliances, spacious bathrooms and even plenty of storage space. On the deck, there are tables, and lounge chairs for guest to perch and view the activity in the harbor. This is tasteful and inviting accommodation that we would highly recommend.
My wife and I have been vacationing along the Maine coast and primarily in the Boothbay Harbor area for over ten years. We saw the penthouse being built and we remarked how nice it would be to stay there. As we were looking for our accommodations for next years visit I found the penthouse available and quickly booked it for a week. It was even more enjoyable than we thought it would be.
Jackie's and Tony's hospitality has definitely made this our favorite place to stay and as the other reviews and web site show it has all the amenities. It is so comfortable and has such a nice location, we even enjoy it on days when the weather isn't ideal.
As a matter of fact, we enjoy it so much we are now booking it for three weeks.
This way by far the best place we have stayed. The decor is stunning and the location is outstanding. The stay went without any issues and the gift basket was a great surprise.
Delightful view of the harbor; luxurious in appointments & furnishings; every possible cooking appliance; welcome fruit & wine basket; a location so near to all the downtown restaurants, stores, & boat trips that we never used our car.
We needed the a/c when we arrived & the fireplaces just before we left.
We're coming back for sure.
Thank you for the use of your wonderful & comfortable home.
We had a family gathering over Thanksgiving with our 3 twenty something children. Our son recently relocated to the Boston area. Tony and Jackie have a wonderful place. The pictures are beautiful but still don't do it justice. Everything was perfect from the welcome gift basket, a pumpkin pie, fully equipped kitchen, and homey comforts we were set! Even in late November we found lots to do in the Boothbay area (without the crowds) and coming back to the cottage was welcoming and cozy!
My husband and I stayed in the Back Bay Cottage Penthouse for a week late summer. This place will not disappoint! It is extremely roomy, very clean, tastefully decorated, has a great view, perfect location, and well appointed. The wine and crackers waiting for us upon arrival was appreciated and enjoyed also!
We are three blocks from the best Italian restaurant in Maine, two blocks from an excellent Pizza joint, three blocks from 5 or 6 good fish restaurants, next to the Chowder house, three blocks from Chinese & Thai restaurants, and three blocks from boutique popcorn & icecream stores. What else could a gourmand want?
Penthouse shares a dock & float with the other two units, so bring your kayaks, canoes, and low profile outboard motorboat (you have to get under the footbridge). Larger boats can tie up at one of the marinas and you can dinghy in - tide permitting.
Sailboat harbor tours, whale watching tours, excursion tours, fishing charters are available 3 blocks away.
Because of wealthy patrons Boothbay Harbor boasts a 'Y' as upscale as many private rec centers. A brand new Olympic swimming pool, several indoor tennis courts and running track, weight rooms give you no excuse.
