We purchased this property as the former Zach's On The Rock's. We could not save the restaurant, but renovated the house and the cottage. We reside in the house so are close by to handle your every need.

PERFECT ESCAPE

  • 5 of 5
Here's what we wanted and needed: Scenery. Peace and quiet. A fireplace. Not too far from home. A fair price. Somewhere dog-friendly.

We got all of that, in droves. While the pictures on this site are beautiful, they don't fully convey the beauty, attention to detail, warmth and special-ness of our hosts' guest home.

We just wanted to get away from it all, and the "French Cottage" was that place. The views of Jay Peak and the surrounding mountains, the forest, all covered in snow... breathtaking. A foot was already on the ground for our pre-Christmas getaway, and the weather gave us more of the stuff for the next few days. Our host had the cottage ready, abundant firewood ready to light, and a special welcoming bubbly.

Now some details:
* The kitchen is amply supplied; just bring food! We had everything we needed.
* The beds are luxuriously comfortable, as is the rest of the furniture. The master bedroom upstairs is five-star.
* The master bath, and the lower bath, are tasteful, clean and have roomy showers. The radiant heat is a real treat on cold days.
* There's Wi-Fi in case you just have to keep a line to the outside world open. And a big TV if you finish your book early.
* A grocery and restaurants are not far away.

I imagine the French Cottage would be equally amazing in summer, when you can use the pool, or in the fall, when the leaves are turning.

Our three+ days went by too fast. We loved this. It's the third time we've used VRBO, and we had great experiences in Topanga Canyon and the Cape. This VT beauty tops both of them. We are already thinking of times to go back.

NEVER DISAPPOINTED

  • 5 of 5
We had the wonderful opportunity to visit at the end of the summer. This was our 2nd visit, we have planned a 3rd for our anniversary this coming year. My husband brought is off-road motorcycle and found many great trails. The pool was refreshing, the morning walks were invigorating and there were plenty of near-by shops, antique shops, sites to enjoy. We took JayPeak's tram trip, very scarey if you are scared of heights (as I am) but completely worth the adventure to see the great distances from the top of JayPeak, the weather does roll in quickly at the peak but well worth the picnic we brought with us.

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thank you Laurie and Leslie.

SUPER CUTE COTTAGE WITH ALL THE AMENITIES!

  • 5 of 5
We spend Thanksgiving week at "On the rocks" and had such an amazing trip we cannot wait to return. The cottage is just an 8 minute drive to Jay Peak and even though we had 13 inches of fresh snow the roads were perfectly passable. The photos do not do justice. Everything is new, fresh, cozy and very comfortable. The beds are incredible and the heated floors in the bathrooms were a really fun touch. They provide all linens and towels and extra pillows/blankets....even cozy couch throws to snuggle in by the fire. The owners were very kind and attentive, provided enough firewood (and kindling and paper) to keep us warm and cozy for the entire visit, plowed the driveway, shoveled the snow from the steps and were always available. This was our first experience renting through VRBO and it exceeded our expectations tremendously. An added nice convenience was having the full bedroom/bath on the main floor for anyone that does not want to climb the stairs to the master bedroom. We cannot wait to go back in the summer to enjoy the deck and pool! 5 stars are not enough for this cottage.....my husband's comment was that it was 'Like renting a little mini Four Seasons'...and he is very picky! If this place is available, look no further!

EXCEPTIONAL OWNER, BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
My husband, teenage son and I stayed here for a week in March, a week where we lucked out both in finding a great place to stay and on the weather. As others have said, the pictures here do not so this place justice. It's clearly well made, and the owners have not scrimped on anything. From quality pots and pans to excellent mattresses (we renters to not take these things for granted!), the cottage was perfect. In addition to the beautiful exterior of the cottage, which looked like something from the French countryside on the outside and was sturdy and modern on the inside, the owner clearly had a great eye for decorating. We had a great time skiing, including cross country skiing on the trails situated just a mile or so up the road from the cottage. We had a couple of good meals out and we got all the supplies we needed at the nearby market in town. The owner was attentive, accommodating and accessible throughout our stay. The one thing I'll mention is that the property is located on a hill. We would have done well to remember that Vermont gets lots of snow and that Prius's don't have good traction. Snow tires would have been a good idea--either that or an SUV. Nonetheless, it all worked out in the end. Highly recommended!

PERFECT FOR A FAMILY OF 4.

  • 5 of 5
The cottage provided easy access to Jay Peak's indoor water park, spring skiing, and the stick and puck session at the hockey rink, but without the cramped and noisy hotel room experience. The bathrooms and kitchens seemed brand new and were very nice. The mountain views from the cottage were awesome and the nearby walks were very enjoyable. The only minor issue was the lack of a washer and dryer, so just be sure to bring enough clothes for the whole stay. Overall, highly recommended!
