Less than a mile from the Historic Village of Trinidad, this elegant home is on four acres and at the end of a private road. It is snuggled into a mature redwood forest with a third of a mile of well groomed trails. Four benches have been placed along the trails to relax and to enjoy the exceptional creek and forest views. Around the front yard there is plenty of sun exposure. Quiet, except for the occasional sound of seals in the distance, and songs of chickadees, winter wrens and Douglas squirrels; this is truly a retreat. This wood-sided home has an outside hot tub on a private deck adjacent to the upstairs bedroom. The spacious front patio has a fire pit for those who love to spend their evenings out. There is a ping-pong table in the garage. For the lawn there are croquet and bocce ball.
Oftentimes the location is out of the fog and wind of other beach side properties; This is a peaceful, private experience where the beauty of nature satisfies your craving for tranquility. This is the home that you will long to return to year after year.
Inside, granite counter tops and a cook top stove are centrally located for gabbing with each other over cocktails. The wet bar is where those cocktails originate; the cabinets are all custom made. All the proper amenities are here, whether you are planning a lavish dinner or want casual dining on the patio. There is a king sized bed upstairs and a walk in shower with his and her's sinks and showers. A set of twin trundle (day) beds downstairs (can be made into a queen bed), and a fold-out couch/futon with a comfy mattress is in the upstairs loft. Outside, there is the Octacabana—a cozy building 50 feet away from the house with windows that open to the sound of the year-round creek and waterfalls. The Octacabana has a heater (No Plumbing) and a Queen bed—perfect for a couple who wants to sleep in and be alone, surrounded by nature.

The natural setting in the redwoods has been complimented with groomed native plants, rhododendrons (47 of them!), cedars, and Japanese maples. Two ponds full of goldfish, water lilies and a pump-powered waterfall between them are a perfect place to have lunch and a chance to glimpse a threatened species, the red-legged frog. The large lawn is perfect for bocce ball or croquet. The back yard is a lush shade garden, full of ferns, Japanese variegated grass and more Japanese maples. From there, the forest drops off towards McConnahas Mill Creek.

There is a year-round creek on the property, and we have always loved living near water. When we discovered that McConnahas Creek with its natural waterfalls was on the parcel that sealed the deal.
Peaceful tranquility in a natural setting for relaxing and entertaining family and friends. It is an easy walk into Trinidad where there is a museum, grocery, Post Office, wine tasting at Moonstone Winery and more beaches than you can visit in a week.
Our stay at Raven Ridge left a lasting impression on our family. We were enchanted by the grounds as well as the surrounding woodlands. The home itself is everything it appears to be and more. You can feel the attention and love that went into creating it. We truly felt like we were on vacation. It was the perfect nest to come back to after exploring the area, hiking, and beach combing. Some of the most magical places we will ever see are very nearby. Our children did not want to leave, nor did we. This is the first VRBO place we have stayed that not only lived up to it's description, but exceeded it. We have every intention of returning one day.
This was an absolute top notch, first class home located in an amazingly relaxful location. Our family echos the exceptionally positive feedback Ash and Ra provided in an earlier review. In addition, we would add that the majesty of their location nestled within the redwood forest provided both a quaint and quiet setting. You'll only hear the sounds of birds, wind among the redwood trees, and the steady flow of the creek. If you've never seen a 100% moss yard, you'll be treated to nature's beauty at its finest.
From a practical perspective, their location is 10 minutes from the airport, less than 30 minutes from several National Park locations, and less than a mile to the grocery store. Dozens and dozens of Redwood forest hikes are located within this same area including many bordering the Pacific.
If you are considering a visit to northern California, we highly recommend Raven Ridge any time of the year. Whle December is the rainiest and coldest month of the year for this part of the country, we were able to enjoy hiking and outdoor activity every day as low temperatures did not dip below freezing and the rains were more of a steady mist.
Lastly, Christmas could not have been better for us. Raven Ridge was decorated with a tasteful elegance. Many family photos and videos were taken to ensure happy memories for years to come. Thank you Donna and Larry for helping to make our holiday season so special.
This was the most amazingly relaxing and rejeuvanating holiday experience we have ever had.
Of course, the daily walks on trekking paths amongst the magestic Redwood forests were awe inspiring but the real jewel was this beautiful and tranquil house. The pictures just don't do justice to the beautiful landscaping and warm, inviting interiors of the house. The house is so well organised and all the amenities- from the Hot tub on the balcony to the BBQ grill in the garden - were just what we required for a long stay. We actually felt we were in our own "other" home.
And, what made our holiday truly memorable was the presence of Bunky, the cat. He is truly the sweetest, loving and most undemanding cat to have around. In fact, Bunky stole our hearts. He not only entertained us in the evenings with his cute games but showered us with so much love.
Raven Ridge Retreat will always remain very special to us. Thank you Larry and Donna for opening your home to us. We definitely will be back soon!
House was beautiful, clean and quiet. Really close to town and beaches. Property is very well maintained and their cat Bunky was no problem at all.
Great place to stay! Home, forest, beach, quiet.
Beautiful and relaxing. Wish we could have stayed a whole month.
Raven Ridge is a beautiful, serene property close to town. The house has a very open feeling with lots of wood, windows and access to the outdoors. It's comfortable and clean with a well equipped large kitchen. We also enjoyed the koi ponds and eating outside on the patio, surrounded by redwoods and the lovely, expansive, oval shaped front yard.
Raven Ridge Retreat lived up to our expectations!
It is clean, neat, spacious, with thoughtfully well designed interior, its exterior brilliantly incorporated the richness of nature all around, smells and feels fresh, quite peaceful, modern, comfortable, enjoyable!!!
We recommend Raven Ridge Retreat 100%.
