Gouldsboro Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 9 or 10

A great spot to just relax and enjoy the view. Our renters agree that the photographs don't do it justice. A large great room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay, and has a stone fireplace so you can watch the sunset or sit by the fire. The kitchen is very well appointed and includes just about everything the chef desires except the food. There is a full laundry room with a washer and a dryer. No need to waste hours at the laundromat. The rec room includes a ping pong table, games, video tapes, and satellite TV as well as a cozy stone fireplace and a seating area to relax and enjoy the fire or the spectacular view of Frenchman Bay. The children's bedroom is furnished with a full/twin bunk bed, a toddler bed, and a Pack n Play. In addition there are two beautifully furnished bedrooms with queen-size beds. There is a queen size sofa bed in the great room, and two comfortable inflatable beds which each sleep two adults.

The home is located about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor, the hub of activities on Mount Desert Island and gateway to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor offers dozens of restaurants and shops and also kayak and bike rentals.

Hikers who prefer less crowded trails will find that nearby Black Mountain and Schoodic Mountain offer gorgeous panoramic vistas of lakes, ponds, Frenchman Bay, and the Porcupine Islands without the large numbers of hikers found on the better known trails of Acadia.

Winter Harbor, just 5 minutes away, offers galleries, shops and dining, all located in a quaint lobstering village with a picturesque town harbor and dock. A passenger ferry runs numerous trips daily from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor. Lobster pounds abound, and two are located within a couple of miles of the house. Swim and fish at nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond at the foot of Schoodic Mountain. Kayaks can be rented in nearby Birch Harbor and kayak tours can also be arranged.

The entrance to the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is a few minutes from the house by car or bike, and is a beautiful 'secret' spot which is visited by only a few of the thousands of visitors to Acadia.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Rich:

I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our short week in your Maine home. The location was stunning, both in the sun and rain. As most attractions in the area were closed we took advantage of that great stone fireplace and the comfy couch to lounge in. I haven't enjoyed doing nothing so much for a long time. I even got a couple of good books read. The people of Winter Harbor were great and very welcoming.

We look forward to renting from you again. I haven't found a more relaxing place anywhere. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Beautiful Cabin on Maine's Coast, Secluded, Quiet

Beautiful Cabin on Maine's Coast, Secluded, Quiet
  • 4 of 5
We absolutely LOVED our time at this incredibly beautiful and spacious log cabin on the Schoodic Peninsala of Maine! The cabin is superb - very well done, tastefully decorated! The views are unbelievably breathtaking of the ocean, harbor, and islands! We were in awe! Richard was so helpful when we had questions and was wonderful to work with!
While we loved being out and away from everything to truly 'get away', our only regret was that it was SO far away from everything!! I think late October means that most local places are closed down; and the travel distance to Bar Harbor was a bit further than we had anticipated.(50 minutes or so) But if you want to just relax and enjoy the cabin and the views, the amazing fireplace, and quiet, this place is amazing! if we were to come again, we'd come in summer or September, while the ferry still runs across to Bar Harbor!
thank you, Richard, for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!

Owner's Response: We greatly appreciate the wonderful review our guests wrote for our log cabin. We do disagree that it is "so far away from everything". We spoke to our guests prior to their arrival and told them that we would be happy to answer any questions they had concerning things to do nearby and places to shop during their rental including hiking the beautiful Schoodic section of Acadia National Park, year round live entertainment, and local shopping. The time to Bar Harbor is also considerably less had they taken the shortest route through Lamoine rather than going through Ellsworth. We average 32 minutes for the trip. We strongly feel that we do everything possible to provide a beautiful home, and we are happy to provide personal advice on the many things to see and do no matter what season of the year.

Last day here after 2 weeks- leaving tomorrow. Everything is just like the website claims. No issues of any kind. Had no need of fireplace or air conditioners as the weather was just perfect. Place can sleep a larger group but was very enjoyable for just the two of us. Location is a great place to jump off any direction for exploring downeast Maine. No hassle of crowds like Bar Harbor and not too far if one wishes to see the attractions of Bar Harbor. (We only spent a few hours there and had lunch at Gaylyns near the port)
Blueberry festival in Machias was most entertaining. Not to miss is Campobello, where Franklin Roosevelt spent part of his boyhood and early years of marriage. about 1and 1/2 hours away. Bring passport as it is in New Brunswick
Of course Acadia is wonderful. Lots to do there. Be sure to visit Jordans Pond and enjoy the popovers-fantastic! Also the Schoodic part of Acadia is a great place to visit.
Best meal we had was at Trenton Bridges Lobster pound although we never really had an unpleasant meal experience. We liked Winter Harbor and visited nearly all the shops.

We recommend this place highly.

Acadia Maine

My husband, 2 children, ages 15 and 13, and myself spent a wonderful week in this gorgeous home. The house is in a very peaceful setting overlooking Frenchman Bay. It could not have been more perfect. The house is even more lovely than the pictures depict. The decorating touches add so much to the overall feel of the home. The house was well stocked and we wanted for nothing. The owner, Rich, was always very helpful and a pleasure to work with. We often saw eagles and harbor porpoises from the shoreline. We did our first sea kayaking trip, which was fun. We spent 3 full days in Acadia on Mt. Desert Island. Did some great hikes, our favorites being the Beehive and Precipice Trails. We swam (briefly) at Sand Beach; the water is only 55 degrees! But after a long hike, it felt great. We had popovers at Jordon Pond House which is a must do! We tried to watch the sunset from Cadillac Mountain, but it was too cloudy that day. We did have a very nice sunset our first night at the house. We also spent time at the part of Acadia at Schoodic peninsula. Did a nice hike there and also watched the waves crash along the rocks. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this little slice of heaven.

Summer 2013

We are a 3 generation family of 7, ranging in age from 25-90 years old. The house on Island View was perfect for all of us. We used the 2 fireplaces every night, and the kitchen meets the standards of foodies like us. we put our kayaks in right on the property ocean front. the one time there was a problem with the house, Greg was there immediately to take care of it. Rich directed us to Gouldsboro Enterprise up the road for lobster. We bought them right as they were unloaded from the boat for $3.25/lb! There is no reason to ever go to Bar Harbor-the Schoodic Peninsula, has everything except crowds and traffic. This is a perfect venue -everyone was happy! we will be back.

Peaceful seaside retreat

  • 5 of 5
The beauty and comfort of this lovely spruce log home matches it's magnificent surroundings. The thoughtful love and pride with which each detail of this beautiful home was created is apparent the moment you enter the graceful curve of the drive. When you catch a first glimpse of this serene retreat enfolded by stately spruce, overlooking a breathtaking and ever changing view of ocean, you will know that you have found the ultimate peaceful retreat for your family's vacation time together. Each room is a visual treat of beautiful, comfortable furnishings and eclectic, whimsical art and crafts, thoughtfully chosen by the owners who are sharing their home with you. Pictures can not adequately convey what you will feel once you are here. If you manage to pry yourself away from this spot there are rich cultural resources in the surrounding seaside communities diverse enough to entertain your entire family. We attended a recital performed by an internationally know pianist, and a concert by a nationally known folk recording artist within ten minutes of the home. You will want to return again and again. The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, this cabin was the perfect way to start off the New Year. Pure serenity.
A couple of deer wandered by. A fox meandered. A blazing fire in the stone fireplace in the beautiful main room upstairs or blazing fire in the beautiful stone fireplace downstairs. Breath in the clean air. Relax. Play cards. Grab some lobsters straight off the boat. Watch the tide roll in and out while sitting in rocking chairs overlooking the incredible ocean views. Warm and cozy. Clean.
I almost don't want to tell anyone about this special gem. The owners know exactly how to get away with this special gem nestled in the woods. Everything you need is right there.
We'd go back in a heartbeat. It's perfect.
