The Florida Keys are a largely undeveloped paradise connected to the mainland of Florida by the Overseas Hwy. It is a sleepy area reminiscent of a lost time in American culture, but with a tropical feel. Electricity did not even make it to the keys until 1941!!!
Although located within minutes of great dining, shopping and activities, this cottage captures that lost time. Situated on nearly an acre of waterfront land, this cozy 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom poured concrete house built in the 1940's not only has withstood the tests of time - dozens of hurricanes without a scratch - it was completely updated in 2005 with central a/c (and heat), impact windows and doors, a private swimming pool, brand new kitchen with stainless steel applicances, updated bathrooms, and beautifully landscaped grounds.
You can enjoy the mornings with sunrise views over the water as you sit in the swing or on the beach. You can walk the grounds in solitude, or go for kayak right in your own back yard, enjoy a swim, or just relax in the hammock or porch swings.
If you prefer some excitement, you are literally minutes away from John Pennekamp Underwater State Park, some of the best diving, snorkeling and fishing in the world, the opportunity to swim with dolphins, rent boats and jet skis, and enjoy plenty of great shopping, restaurants and bars. Large grocery stores and pharmacies are also close by.
Because this home is situated on such a large parcel of land, when you enter the grounds, you enter you own private estate. If you are looking for solitude and a feeling of the REAL Florida keys, you have found it at Rock Harbor House.

I found this gem by accident while paddling my kayak. I came upon it by water and fell in love with this quaint cottage. Little did I know that beyond the house was nearly an acre of land spanning clear up to the main road in Key Largo. After capturing it in a bankruptcy auction, I took about a year to renovate the inside, build the pool, and landscape the grounds. This cottage became home for my family and me for about a year until work called me back to Miami. Now you get to enjoy the solitude I miss.
This wonderful private property is minutes away from John Pennekamp Underwater Park where you can rent boats, take a glass bottom boat ride over some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs, or enjoy kayaking, scuba diving and and snorkeling. Many fishing charters are also close by, as are many scuba and snorkel charter companies. Great shopping, and many restaurants, bars and a large grocery store, a sea life park and a great public park with tennis and basketball courts, and a water park for young children are all nearby. You can swim with the dolphins at two different places all within a mile or two of the house.
