About Brian FitzGerald

We are a large family, 13 siblings, from a town in Northern NY along the Canadian border.

My father acquired the property some years ago to have some relief from the tough upstate NY winters.

I manage the property for the family, my siblings and their families are heavy users of the property.

Brian FitzGerald purchased this house in 1963

Why Brian FitzGerald chose Long Bay

Barbados is English speaking.

All the comforts of home are close at hand if you want them as Barbados is one of the most developed islands in the region. The literacy rate approaches 98% and the capital Bridgetown and its surrounds are booming.

Our property is away from the luxury resorts of the west coast and the well-developed south coast, so if you are looking for a highly developed commercial resort setting, that is not our property. We are a short drive from the well-developed southern coast should you wish to access it.

Our property is located on the Southeast coast which is where you’ll find what makes the island special. Steady cooling easterly trade winds and a pristine natural setting. The property is located beachfront in a quiet, upscale and safe residential setting, close to supermarkets, restaurants and bars. The property has its own beach, there are a number of beaches within walking distance and Crane Beach, one of the finest beaches on the island is 10 minutes by car.

Barbados is a great package, and despite its popularity, you’ll have no trouble making it your own. Away from the glitz, it’s still a place of classic calypso rhythms, an island-time vibe and world-famous rums.

Half a million people can’t be wrong. That’s the number of visitors Barbados attracts annually, and it doesn’t take long before you see why they come by the planeload: the coasts are ringed by the kinds of azure-water and white-sand visions that fuel the fantasies of Brits, Americans and Canadians stuck shivering away in some snowy winter clime.

What makes this house unique

The property is a unique opportunity for the budget conscious wanting a private ocean front natural setting but not wanting to incur the high cost of a luxury villa. The house is charming, roomy, comfortable and simply furnished.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We so enjoyed our vacation in the large house! Once again, we were enchanted by the superb beaches around our rental. Location, location, location! Being the holidays, we were joined by some locals who know the good spots such as the shark hole and the natural pools at the farther end of Sam Lord’s beach. We also took a short drive (5 minutes) to Ginger beach where the boys played in the waves and buried themselves in the sand. We also went to Crane beach and jumped off the rocks. Lots of fun. My husband and the boys took a catamaran expedition one day and swam with the sea turtles and saw a lot of amazing fish and rays. We also took advantage of Gabby’s home cooking and enjoyed an truly marvelous Bajan meal including mahi-mahi and flying fish – mmm. We discovered a new beach very close by at Harrismith. Beautiful spot and the ruins in the setting sun were splendid. This was our 5th visit. We talk about Barbados and your rental with such enthusiasm that some friends of ours are considering coming in the spring! I know they will love it as we did. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

You couldn't be closer to the ocean

  • 4 of 5

The strongest point is Gaby, the responsible of the house, who provided help and care. She is a smiling, caring, and efficient lady.

The house is very well equipped: the kitchen is very functionnal, there are towels for all the guests, washing machine and dryer work perfectly

The garden is not fenced at all, so I don't recommend it to a family with small children, because the front of the garden is a steep fall in the ocean. There is a little beach in front of the house, but I strongly advise not to swim there.

The view is impressive. My last warning is probably about the noise: at night, the roar of the ocean and the booms that waves make when they clash is very loud: if you live in a busy town, you should be ok, but we live in a very quiet place, so it was definitively to much for me.

Spectacular view

  • 4 of 5

The Fitzgerald House is a very basic house in a wonderful location if you like solitude and aren't afraid of rough water. The house has everything that you would need except a dishwasher and is accurately portrayed in the pictures and description on the listing. We were their during a particularly rainy week and ran out of hot water because the water is solar heated. With that said, we loved our stay and the house was perfect for what we wanted. This side of the island is rugged and not the least bit touristy. We had a car which I think is a must given the location of the property. We spent time on the beautiful beaches of the old Sam Lordes Castle resort next door which is totally in ruins and deserted. We took walks along that beach every morning. By far the best beach in the area is Foul Bay. Truly not to be missed. Great swimming and hardly any people. Gabby the housekeeper is wonderful. Always checked on our needs and even drove my son to the airport on the last day because he had a much later flight than ours. All in all a great stay. I would go back for sure....just need a little less rain next time!

Fitzgerald (388055), just great!

  • 5 of 5

Just great! Does the title say... and it is! We (4 adults, 3 children) had a great time in this beautiful place. There is enough space!

A breathtaking location, with beautiful beaches nearby (walking distance) and one in front of you. Swimming is not recommended. Also a car is needed.

Our housekeeper (Gabby) looked very well after us and is very friendly and helpful. It is also a quiet and relaxing location with a beautiful view over the see.

So if you want a great location, beautiful view, hear the see when you fall asleep... then this is the place!

Would we go back?... off course if we have the opportunity we will!

Perfect holidays

  • 5 of 5

To say it straight: The house was wondeful! Perfect location, beautiful view, lovely housekeeper - what a great place to stay. The island is very pretty, everybody is friendly and helpful, absolutely no uncomfortable situations, just what holidayers are looking for. I am afraid, Brian, but you will probably have us back!

We, three Canadians and three Germans between 25 and 55 years of age, had a perfect stay. The description of the listing was correct and accurate, and what we have seen around the island made it very clear that the price of the house is very reasonable (please don't change that, Brian). The neighborhood was pretty, well maintained and very safe. I guess that for some people it might be a bit too far away from the calmer west coast (the drive in the morning took us about one hour) but we enjoyed the peacefulness and the sound of the waves very much. Just what we were looking for.

Long Bay House

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing time at Long bay House. The location was stunning with breathtaking views over the ocean. It was an ideal base to explore the spectacular South East and East Coast. It is also just a short drive from the airport. Although we had a car, the bus stop was just a 10 minute walk away and sometimes we used this (only $2bds) to go to Oistins. Crane Beach is nearby too which is a great place for bodyboarding. The area is safe and friendly and we enjoyed walking early in the morning and often spotted monkeys nearby and humming birds. We all had a great time on the beach splashing around, although a bit wavy for swimming and my son enjoyed fishing off the rocks.

It was extremely clean and well maintained and Gabby the housekeeper looked after us really well and was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are simply furnished and tastefully presented with a little Bajan artwork for decor! From the master bedroom you could hear the sea which is a lovely way to go to sleep and wake up.Such a relaxing and beautiful place. Loved the viewing area and enjoyed watching the occasional fishing boat go by. Great space within the house and gardens outside were large enough for us to play a bit of football and bat and ball with the children.

There was nothing I disliked about this house and it was well above our expectations. We would certainly recommend it and will certainly be staying here again. Also I would like to mention that communication with the owners was excellent as well, Brian always got back to us quickly with any queries we had and was a pleasure to deal with. Will certainly stay in this very special place again.

Excellent location provided you have transport, listing was accurate property was well looked after Gaby looked after us well. Would recommend this villa however it should be noted you need transport as the better restaurants and beaches are 30 mins away by car. But the views and location were great if you prefer the St Phillips area, as usual the locals were very friendly and helpful. It is a shame what has happened to Sam Lords Castle though a great loss to Barbados's heritage.

A large, rambling beach house situated on the sea edge within the secluded and gated private FitzGerald property. There is small sand beach cove directly on the ocean front and superb tropical paradise beaches to either side. Two minutes walk is Sam Lords Castle beaches and Crane Beach Resort is just one mile along the coast. The Crane beach is the finest beach on the island.

A short walk from the house is the Tropical Winds Hotel serving breakfeast, lunch and diner daily with a full bar. JJ Variety is a convienance store a few minutes walk. Emerald City Supermarket at Six Roads, 15 minutes by car.

Suited to those wanting a relaxing, romantic or private get away break, the area is much quieter than the main tourist areas on the South and West coasts, and benefits from an almost constant gentle soothing breeze. The South East Coast has a more natural & relaxed environment and is specially noted for the genuine hospitality and friendliness of its local inhabitants
