There is something for everyone to do; enjoy the view and a glass of wine from the deck, swim, play board games & air hockey, peddle boat, canoe, hike, watch movies, or snooze in the lakeside hammock.. Mary and Wade are long time Missoula residents with deep connections to Montana. Wade is a local home builder and Mary works for a non profit as an advocate for parents of children with disabilities.
They enjoy making memories at the lake with grandkids, friends, and their dogs.
Mary Hall purchased this cabin in 1989
In the early 1930's, Mary's grandparents built a rustic lakeside log cabin on Seeley Lake. Some of her best memories were spending time at the lake when she was a child; it was truly a Montana dream. When the time came to build a place of their own, it had to be log and it had to be in the Seeley Swan Valley.
By 1989, Seeley Lake was very busy lake indeed. Wanting a quiet spot and a relatively warm water lake, they chose Placid Lake to build their cabin in the woods.
Although Placid Lake is close to the town of Seeley Lake and only an hour from Missoula, it is a peaceful place. It has little public access and is three miles off of the highway. A stay at Placid Lake a true Montana experience.
September is a grat month to visit Montana! The weather was as perfect as you could want. The lake was great, and the sunsets were beautiful. We had four Loons who came to visit every day. Also saw a Golden Eagle and lots of other wildlife. Lindy's is a great place for steaks in Seeley Lake, and Missoula is only an hour away if you want to shop. Thanks to the owners for sharing such a remarkable oasis.
We rented this cabin on the lake for a family gathering which included three little ones. First impression upon arrival was very good - the cabin was beautiful! It soon became apparent that it wasn't as great as it first appeared -- several of the deck chairs (plastic) were broken and unusable; one of the dining chairs was also broken - just glad that it didn't collapse with someone sitting on it; and the livingroom furniture was broken down and very uncomfortable, not to mention the dog hair! The structure and location are great but we were disappointed in the furnishings given the price we paid to rent. This cabin is not "baby friendly" as the stairs are open and too wide for a gate and there was nothing provided in the way of furniture such as crib, highchair, etc.
This was one of the most enjoyable vacation homes we have ever stayed in. Everything was as advertised and more. We were able to have our boat on the water as well as use of the canoe and peddle boat that came with the house. It was a short drive to Seeley Lake for' dinner and shopping. We were able to hike several trails in the area, but mostly we loved the lake. The house was clean and comfortable. We didn't mind not having television because we watched a lot of movies in the evening. We would have liked internet access, but we could get public wireless in town at several places. What a wonderful vacation.
Our family certainly enjoyed a wonderful week at this Placid Lake cabin. It was like "home away from home". The difference was an awesome view of the beautiful lake through the trees while drinking morning coffee on the upper deck. Having a dishwasher, washer and dryer allowed for more leisure time. I enjoyed the large family table where we would sit and have our meals together.
Wade and Mary have seen to everyones needs as far as furnishing the cabin. It's very quaint. Mary responded quickly when we had any concerns.
We rented a pontoon boat for a day in Seeley Lake and enjoyed tubing with that as well as discovering the rest of the lake. We really enjoyed the peddle boat and canoe (with a few funny memories made involving them)
Of course my favorite thing was seeing and hearing the loons. They are amazing and beautiful. We now belong to the Loon Society by purchasing their license plate:)
Ice cream in Seeley Lake is a treat!!!
This week at the cabin far exceeded my expectations!!!
Wow! Our family could not have asked for more.
When you wake up from a restful night sleep with the cool air seeping through the open windows, start the coffee pot and just sit on the back deck to watch the loons gliding across the mirrored surface of this serene lake, your soul finds a calm that cannot be found in the workaday world.
It's getting more and more difficult for our family to find time together but we made time for this trip and were hopeful that the listing we found for the Placid would meet our needs. Did it ever!
This is a beautiful getaway: private, quiet, comfortable, relaxing, and well furnished. We hauled entirely too much stuff thinking that we would be 'roughing it' but Mary and Wade have thought of just about everything you might need and have provided. Mary was very helpful in answering emails and texts quickly.
I cannot recommend this cabin more highly. We would be delighted to go back and would recommend this vacation to anyone who needs to slow down and catch up. I miss it already.
We loved The Placid cabin! The property was clean and well maintained with a very well equipped kitchen and nice grill on the upper deck. The upper deck had a great view of the lake and was a good spot to have your morning coffee and also a great place to gaze at the stars at night. Lots of games and VHS movies plus an air hockey table. We really enjoyed having the use of the canoe and paddle boat plus the dock was nice as there was both sun and shade. The water had easy access and was so warm/clean. The owners were very helpful and answered questions in a timely manner. We enjoyed the town of Seeley Lake and ate at Lindley's Steak House and it was delicious. We hiked the Morrell and Glacier Lake trails which were easy hikes and enjoyed the Holland Lake hike to the falls. Great vacation - we will be back!
