The house was built in 1889 as a coal repository, and it has been completely renovated in 1999/2000. In 2003, it was honoured with the “Builder Price” of the free state of Saxony. It is a 4-star property. It is located on the crest of the Ore Mountains, in a Nature Reserve, where you can admire the unique natural landscape in any season. You can go hiking or visit the castles and the museums in the region. You can also enjoy a variety of sport activities. In the Reha Clinic Altenberg, members of all the Insurance Houses can receive the best treatment. In the winter, you can enjoy sled rides, cross country skiing, Alpine skiing and Nordic Walking in the close vicinity. Trips to the Czech Republic area also a good suggestion, as everybody wants to see how Casanova spent the last years of his life as librarian in Dux.

You live on the second floor. On the ground floor, you have a living/kitchen area in American style (32 m²). Here, you have the possibility to extend the sleeping accommodation for 2 guests, who can sleep on the sofa bed. On the ground floor there is also an extra WC and a wardrobe. On the attic floor, there is a bathroom and place for 2 people to sleep. The house was projected by an architect and the attic floor is appropriately built. The apartment is equipped with radio, TV, CD-player and telephone. Crockery and linen belongs to the equipment as well. On warm days, you can use a seating place on the terrace. In the garden, there is a barbecue and a sunbathing area. You can rent bikes, winter skiers or sleds.

Our house is located in the small quarter of the city Altenberg, at the margins of the woods, in the Nature Reserve ‘Hemmschuh’. If you come from the west on the A4, you have to go down the 75 (Siebenlehm) from the highway, heading Freiberg. From Freiberg- Frauenstein- Hermsdorf- Neuhermsdor- Neurehefeld head the border crossing to Neurehefeld/Moldava. When you see the welcome town shield, you have to turn to the right, into the next street, and there you reach your destination. If you drive on the E55 to Prague turn right in Schmiedeberg, in the middle of the town. In just a few minutes from our house, you can find good Czech restaurants, sopping facilities for the daily needs and a barber’s. Within 10 minutes by car, you can find a bakery, a super market, a butcher’s in Hermsdorf, Frauenstein or Altenberg.

A superb house.

An excellent property, well appointed and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is fully equipped exactly as described and all the appliances and utensils are of good quality and nearly new. Likewise the bathroom and bedrooms, including a prettily appointed childrens' bedroom. The house is situated in an outstanding walking/cycling area (summer) and has many miles of cross-country ski trails waymarked the nearest path passes about 20 metres behind the property).

The owner is very patient and helpful (the 'language barrier' is easily overcome), and did far more for us than we would have expected, yet is never obtrusive. She even took us to the supermarket in Teplice (cheaper than Germany) and for a short sightseeing tour afterwards.

The surrounding area is very attractive and the larger attractions (Dresden, Meissen, the Elbe and Saxon Switzerland to name just a few) are easily accessible by road.

If you want to escape from traffic, nightlife, the English, this is a perfect place to be!

This is a place for us to revisit!
