About Dorothy

We were married 25yrs. ago right out front of this unit under the 7 palm trees looking over the ocean and have been coming back to this unique island ever since.

Dorothy purchased this condo in 2011

Why Dorothy chose Maunaloa

Molokai has remained unaffected by the passage of time & is regarded as a spiritual center and a place of retreat. It is our retreat from Oahu where we live.

What makes this condo unique

Quietness, friendliness, breathtaking beauty,

ocean sunsets & big waves in the winter

relaxation destination

A great 1BR condo. Probably has best location among all of the other units at the property. Want to watch gorgeous unobstructed sunsets? You can do so on your patio. Want to feel the sand beneath your toes? That's a 60 second walk. A few tips for future guests: (1) the pool was closed while we were there, so ask Dorothy if it will be open for your visit; (2) if you're arriving on a Sunday, try to get to Molokai earlier in the day. The main grocery store is closed on Sunday, although there are a few mini-marts that will have enough to hold you over until Monday (at least one liquor store is open on Sunday, as well); (3) if you're coming from another island and have room, consider bringing some of your own food over -- if you thought Maui/Kauai/Oahu prices are high, wait until you see Molokai costs (e.g., $7 for a medium-sized bag of potato chips); (4) make sure you head up the beach (to your left if facing the ocean) and hike up the little bluff. There are some well-defined paths to follow. Otherwise, simply be prepared to have a peaceful and relaxing time in this lovely condo.

Absolutely loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay on Molokai and thought the condo was great. Comfortable, clean, quiet, and relaxing. It had everything we needed to enjoy a restful vacation. The store on the grounds was handy for a few convenience items. We loved the view most of all...the sunsets were unbelievable, and we never got tired of watching the waves come crashing in. The owner made it easy to get everything set up and gave us helpful info about the island. Highly recommend!

Amazing Trip Because of our Amazing Condo!!!

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish, our trip was amazing even though it went by way too fast. We knew when we read the previous reviews that we would enjoy my stay, but we never thought we would be so blown away. My husband and I went to celebrate our 8th anniversary and it was the best one yet! For some people, the drive to the condo may seem far and long, but we enjoyed it. The fields were green and the weather perfect for the windows to be rolled down with the local tunes playing on the radio. The moment we walked into the condo, we found peace. All of the hustle of Oahu was left behind. We were able to buy food at the grocery in Kaunakakai and cooked most of our meals. The condo had all the appliances, dishes, etc. to do this. One of our favorite things about the condo was its privacy away from everything. The grounds were dated in some areas, but we thought it added to the charm. The condo itself was very clean and well maintained. The beach was steps away. Our most favorite thing to do during the trip was open the windows and the sliding doors leading to the lanai to watch the waves and sunset (you can't beat the sunsets on the West side). The winds were nice and it was perfect weather. We knew the surf would be high because of the "winter" season, but it did not bother us. We were highly entertained by the locals boogie boarding and surfing. There were also many beaches to explore around the area. I can't forget to include how wonderful the people of Molokai are to visitors. You just cannot get that kind of hospitality on the other islands. The owners of the condo were very easy to work with and always willing to answer questions through multiple means of communication. Overall, the condo was a GREAT deal for a relaxing vacation.

Hmmm, Ok

  • 3 of 5

The condo itself is nice for the price and the view is amazing. The cleaning lady was great. Almost no rental on the island has air conditioning. However it would be nice if a box fan or two was provided. It was a sauna and made it nearly impossible to sleep. Luckily I brought my travel fan or I would have not survived the nights but even then I would wake up in a sweat. In the day you can open the front door and it lets a good breeze through but you can't do that at night. That's my reason for the average review. Also, If you are looking to stay on a beach where you can swim this is not it----very dangerous. There is a fantastic beach a few miles away in a cove that was great for swimming. Good places to eat are the Paddlers Inn and Makas. The grocery store in the main town was pleasantly well stocked for such a small town.

Owner's Response: All Hawaiian islands experienced extremely humid weather due to two hurricanes skirting & hitting the Big Island during this guests two night stay. We do have two new ceiling fans plus this unit gets a great cross breeze when the trade winds are blowing (except during a hurricane!)

Quiet seclusion

  • 4 of 5

I spent 9 nights at this Kepuhi Beach condo. Comfortable VERY quiet with an outstanding view. Hearing the waves crash on the beach day and night was fantastic. Great hikes north

and south from the condo...don't miss the hike to the secluded (but eerie) tent camp beach south of Dixie Maru. Molokai is very unique and it took a few days to settle into the slower pace, I hope to return.

Location, location, location!

  • 4 of 5

This unit has an amazing view! You would be hard pressed to find a better location on the west side. The winter surf crashing, beautiful sunsets, well manicured grounds, idyllic beaches with few to no people are a few highlights!

The unit was comfortable for our family of 4, Internet worked well, kitchen had all the basics, bathroom is very nicely done and master facing beachfront is great. Price is very reasonable. No AC is needed with the lovely trades plus ceiling fans.

Housekeeper brought over additional beach towels once we notified owner that we had just one. Ice chest was missing but owner dropped it off a few days later. The fry pans need to be retired but I understand rental units get these type things beat up quickly. Unit was clean but quite dusty under furniture. Just a few picky little things that are easily remedied. I'd recommend this unit and would definitely return!
