Even Better Than We Had Hoped!

Our family of four plus two additional teenagers had a wonderful week at this charming home. It is more than 100 years old but has been updated nicely while maintaining its character. It was very clean -- I'm picky! -- and thoughtfully stocked with abundant (new!) towels, linens, wood for the bonfire pit, picnic supplies, etc. There was nothing we lacked all week.
Our girls loved sleeping in the rustic bunkhouse, and the boys felt like they had their "own space" in the room on the converted porch. The main floor bathroom is large, and the outdoor shower worked well. The upstairs half bathroom is small but nice to have when multiple people want a bathroom at the same time! The house does not have air conditioning but there are many large floor fans, and almost always a nice breeze off the water.
Speaking of the water, this cottage is only a 5 minute boat ride to beautiful (but often very choppy while we were there) Torch Lake, and a 45 minute (no wake zone) boat ride to Lake Bellaire. Clam Lake was great for tubing, knee boarding, and wake boarding because it was protected from the winds that stirred up the bigger lakes. Somewhat busier on the weekend, the lake was surprisingly quiet during the week, and never loud at night or in the morning. We rented a boat for the week and kept it tied to the dock with no issues. Our kids enjoyed using the provided rowboat but never managed to catch a fish. I think that had more to do with their skills than the lake!
The owners were terrific to work with, answering all of our questions and leaving phone numbers where they could be reached if needed. I would not hesitate to rent from them again, and we can happily recommend this cottage to others!
