Aloha! I am so honored and excited to share Aloha Falls with you. It is my dream of Hawaiian beauty and spirit. The past decade of my life has been spent nurturing the land here on the Big Island and pursuing the wisdom of various healing arts, including: massage, energy medicine, yoga, and plant medicine. My partner Troy and I focus much of our attention on creating the beauty of Aloha Falls.
Sierra Sugrue purchased this house in 2009
Hilo is the most gorgeous place in all of Hawaii! It is a sweet historic town with locally owned shops and modern comforts. The land is lush thanks to nightly rain fall. Waterfalls and black sand beaches are everywhere, along with an abundance of farms growing exotic organic produce! It was my dream to find a place in Hilo and Aloha Falls is located on the exclusive neighborhood called Reed's Island.
The view and sound of the waterfall made this home absolutely perfect. Also, the attention to detail in building.. All of the furniture, cabinetry, and artwork are handcrafted and locally produced. There are feelings of simplicity, peace, and profound elegance here.
Everything about this house is amazing! From the waterfall in the backyard to the sounds of creatures waking up at night! We enjoyed all of the animals we saw (except for the mosquitoes) and the geckos are everywhere! Even in the house a few times! Some places I suggest trying to visit are Akaka FAlls, the most active volcano in the world (at night its amazing to see the orange glow but make sure to bundle up because it gets cold), snorkeling in Kona - it was great. Overall this was amazing and the house is gorgeous! Thank you!
I can't wait to go back.
The house and property are even nicer than it looks in the photos. The house is very clean. There has been a lot of attention to detail for the comfort and convenience of the guests. The kitchen has everything you need to make meals. The normal condiments are provided. There was even a large pitcher of herb infused cold water in the fridge. There are towels, hair dryers, etc. You really don't need anything but your clothing to go there and enjoy the stay.
The home is located in a residential area, but it is so secluded due to the waterfall and lush vegetation, you feel that you have arrived in a rain forest. There are coqui that sing you to sleep at night, along with the sounds of the waterfall in the distance. Amazing. The beds are incredibly comfortable. We even had tempurpedic style pillows on the beds.
The location is very centrally located. It took about 10-15 minutes to get there from the airport. Town is just a few minutes away by car. Nearby is Rainbow falls (you could actually walk there from the house). About an hour away (or a bit less) are the volcanoes and other waterfalls (Akaka). The town of Hilo is not large and busy like Honolulu. It is very welcoming and relaxing. The people are incredibly friendly.
During our stay, there was quite a bit of rain. Apparently, Hilo is located on the 'wet' side of the island. No matter - if it was raining to hard to go out, we were perfectly happy to sit in the hammock chairs on the enclosed/screened in and covered back deck while sipping tea :) The house/property were as much of a vacation as the surrounding sites. Another plus - because it rained frequently, we had a lot of wet clothing. We were very thankful for the washer and dryer available for use in the house.
We were fortunate to meet the owner of the property. She is a lovely person and really tries hard to make sure the guest are comfortable.
I am starting to save up now to make a return trip. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken! You will return from you stay fully refreshed - it really is impossible to get stressed in this location:)
We had a wonderful time at this Reed's Island Home. It was like a secret getaway. It was so beautiful. It was perfect. Really Clean, very spacious. The owner was so nice and professional. She smiles A lot and had a lot of great travel ideas for us.
We will definitely be staying here again the next time we go to The Beautiful Big Island of Hawaii.. Great Great Experience..
This is a truly unique vacation home. The living area is very roomy and has tropical island decor complete with fresh flowers The kitchen is well stocked and it was a pleasure to cook some local fish and vegetables there. The house has a very open feel and the screened in lanai feels as if you are in a private tropical rain forest with your own waterfall. There are plenty of towels and the master bath is almost like a spa. Hair dryer, shampoo, soap is all provided. Hilo is in walking distance and there is a wonderful farmers market there, lots of local fruit, flowers, jewelry and locally made items. I am already planning my next time there. If you are going to Hilo make this your home away from home, you will not be sorry!! Oh, don't forget to book an awesome massage from the owner, Sierra. She will go out of her way to assist you with any questions or needs you may have during your stay there.
We reserved Aloha Falls as our wedding venue. We both love the outdoors and often swim at various waterfalls so a waterfall theme was an important part of our wedding. Our ceremony took place in the lanai/patio area with a view of the waterfall in the background. Our floral arrangements and leis contrast the greenery that surrounds Aloha Falls. After the ceremony, we made our way down to the waterfall to capture the best pictures for our special day.
Sierra, the host was very hospitable. She had the upstairs living area and the lanai/patio area setup when we arrived and our ceremony went smoothly. In addition, Sierra is a licensed marriage performer in the State of Hawaii so she made the wedding planning real easy for us.
Our stay at Aloha Falls in summer 2014 makes a good story. The hammock and the view from that porch is beautiful and serene. I love the gigantic vegetation surrounding the home. You feel like you are in the jungle! However, we were overall disappointed being in Hilo (not much to see and do in Hilo) and the house itself. The lower living space of the house had dead bugs, several windows without glass just bug mesh, kitchen was unfit for any cooking. Nightly crying from the frogs made it unbearable to sleep with missing windows. Getting to the waterfall is downright dangerous. Unable to swim or go near the water due to mosquitoes. Just lots of clutter around the back yard and the building next to the water was not inviting due to clutter. The upstairs was much better than downstairs. However, the house can use deep cleaning. The mats in the kitchen are tattered, dirty and worn. The floor was sticky. Garbage lid was broken so, needed to use a phone book to keep it closed! Spider webs were on the ceilings and cockroaches were found in the kitchen. I have been fair to share the positives and many negatives of our stay so, be aware.
I wanted an escape from everyday for my first trip to Hawaii. Aloha Falls provided everything I Was looking for. It is in a secluded residential area, so if you are looking for crowds and noise and nightlife this is not for you. If you are looking for tranquility and nirvana, look no further. The house is everything advertised. Wake up to birds and sounds of the forest. Swim in your own spring and waterfall. Really take in the most of your trip and get a massage from Sierra, it was perfect before my return to reality! !
The sweetest neighborhood on the Big Island- Reed's Island. ~ Previously reserved for Hawaiian Ali'i (royalty). It is surrounded by waterfalls and lush rain forest. An island on the island. Downtown yet totally private. Walk to shops, market, waterfalls, and caves. Or just rest here all day long by your own waterfall spring. Pamper yourself with spa services. The options are infinite- this is your unique experience and you deserve to have it all!!!
