Ainslie Cove is oceanfront, but in a sheltered cove, nestled between South and North Pender Islands. We have a South-West facing exposure, so there's lots of sun to enjoy on those sunny days. One of the main attractions is kayaking and observing all kinds of wildlife-especially otters, seals & whales!. Literally steps from the end of our driveway is the entrance to the Mount Norman regional park - a great hike rewarded with spectacular views of the Penders and surrounding islands from the summit. The house is adjacent to more park area, and only a minute stroll from Mortimer Spit's public beach - so there's lots to do and explore right in the immediate area around the house. We share a floating dock with the neighbors, so you can bring your boat, or use the dock for relaxing in the sun.
The house is located on South Pender Island in British Columbia. Access to the Pender Islands (North and South Pender are joined by a single-lane bridge) is convenient from Vancouver, Vancouver Island or the Seattle area. Enjoy the ferry ride (maybe you will see whales!) or be adventurous and take a sea plane. There are too many fun things to do on Pender to list a few there is kayaking and observing all kinds of wildlife-especially otters, seals & whales!etc., etc. - then Pender is the place for you. And don't forget to sit back, relax on the deck and enjoy the spectacular views. The house is well-stocked for guests - sufficient dishes, plates, cutlery, etc. as well as small appliances (coffee maker, blender, electric kettle, etc.). All towels and linens are provided - all you need to bring are your beach towels. There are a couple life jackets in the house but these should properly fit the user, so please plan to bring your own if you will be boating.
The house is a luxury home with 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom (Queen bed) has its own ensuite bathroom, a fireplace and balcony. The bathroom includes skylight windows, a glass-block shower stall, a jacuzzi tub and twin sinks. The two other bedrooms on the upper floor contain a Queen bed, and two twin beds in a room decorated more for children but still very comfortable for adults. These two bedrooms share a hallway bathroom with shower in tub, and sink. Another feature of the upstairs level is the 'wrap-around' mezzanine that overlooks the Great Room, and provides a sleeper sofa, love seat, and lots of room to spread out a jigsaw puzzle!
Downstairs the 4th bedroom (second master) is equipped with a Queen bed and a sofa. This bedroom has its own sliding door which opens onto the front deck. The bathroom is adjacent to the room and has a 'fish-theme' decor with shower in tub and sink.
The 2-story Great Room offers floor-to-ceiling windows so you won't miss any of the view of the cove - or the otters and seals that play there. The two leather recliners near the window are a great spot for reading, watching the wildlife, or checking out the boats that pass through the canal that separates North and South Pender. There is also a large sofa and easy chair, color TV, and stereo including CD player. You won't have to worry about an evening chill - every room in the house is equipped with baseboard heaters, and the Great Room has a Tulikivi soapstone stove.
The lower level also includes the dining area with a 10-person dining table, and a gourmet kitchen with centre island, wine captain, microwave, convection oven, ceramic cook top, full-size fridge and freezer, and dishwasher. The water supply to the house is from our own cistern. It is filtered and UV treated. A reverse osmosis unit in the kitchen ensures that the purest possible water is available for coffee, ice . . . We also, have a water cooler that holds 18 Liter jugs.
*Please note* recently we have been made aware that there is a high sodium level in the tap water. We will be providing all renters with 3 jugs of water per week until we can remedy the situation.
My family has come here the last two summers and have loved it. It was the perfect place for us as none of our own homes are big enough to accommodate us all. We had seven adults and four kids and never felt crowded. The kids played for hours on the dock or on the grass out front. The trail to Mt Norman is just up the drive and is one of my favourite hikes. The view at the top is spectacular. The place is clean and well stocked and the owners are a dream to deal with. Thank you for helping us to create such wonderful memories. We'll be back.
We came to Pender for a relaxing ladies weekend and this place delivered. Beautiful view of the water tucked in amongst the trees, but not too far away from the main road - perfect! We really enjoyed sitting on the deck or behind the huge picture window to watch the boats pass.
This place fit all our needs. Kitchen had everything. We had some teenage girls that felt safe getting out to explore. There was a lower floor bedroom that one of ladies using a cane could use (the property was very accessible to her). Lots of walking and hiking close by.
It was also centrally located right where North Pender meets South Pender - so easy jumping off point for all of Pender.
We really enjoyed our stay here and recommend it fully. I would book it again.
This was our 11th year in a row renting this beautiful house on Pender Island for a week. The house is very well appointed with a fully stocked kitchen, kids' toys, books and comfy chairs to take in the gorgeous water views through floor to ceiling windows. Location is ideal with hiking to Mt. Norman or Beaumont Marine park at your doorstep. Spacious layout is great for families. Kids love fishing off the dock, or paddling around the quiet bay beside it.
Over the years, we've seen deer on the property, eagles flying overhead, and otters and seals swimming close to the dock. Quite a magical spot for a relaxing getaway.
Owners are friendly and very helpful. We'll be back for year 12 next year!
We had an unbelievably relaxing and fun stay at Ainslie Cove! The house is in great condition and full of amazing views. Great grass space for kids to run around in or play some games.
Having the dock access was great for launching our kayaks from or to lay out by the water in the sun. We had fun watching otters, crabs, and so many different birds out by the water.
There are many hiking trails and beaches nearby, we hiked up Mt. Norman (trail starts minutes from the property) and had a gorgeous view of the sunset! Mortimer Spit is a nice closeby spot to walk right by the water or launch kayaks from as well.
The property is just a short drive away from Magic Lake, a great spot to do some lake swimming if preferred. Same drive for getting to the disc golf course where we enjoyed multiple rounds of the amazing course they have setup there!
With such a great place to get away from it all, I can definitely see us coming back!
We had a wonderful three week stay at Ainslie Cove. The location is fabulous; close to hiking trails, the beach at Mortimer Spit and with wonderful waterfront access right at your doorstep. The dock made it great for swimming and easy launching of our kayaks. Inside the house we had plenty of space for our party of eight and enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen. There are so many places to relax on the property, whether watching movies in the living room, curled up in the upstairs loft or sunning on the deck, even with 8 people we were each able to find our own quiet spot. We enjoyed the constant visits from the deer, watching the otters and seals swim in the cove, birds at the feeder by the deck and the hooting of the barred owls at night.
Pender Island is a great place to visit and get away from the the fast pace of the city. There is a good grocery store in the Driftwood Centre along with a bakery, liquor store and a great bookstore. We spent several nights at the Port Browning pub - great pizza, live music and dancing on Sat. night. The Sushi place at the Driftwood Centre is also worth a visit. The Saturday market has lots of fresh local produce baking and crafts. Pender is the perfect place for cycling and kayaking and has many great walking and hiking trails.
We're looking forward to our return visit in 2013!
We had a wonderful stay at Ainslie Cove. The setting is very peaceful and the home is comfortable and well-appointed. The open concept living/kitchen/dining area is well set-up for families to relax, cook, eat (too much!). The island is quiet, with many little hiking trails and beaches. Highly recommended!
