|Property type||chateau / country house|
|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Peace with great views of the lower desert and mountains. You're away, yet just minutes to shopping. It's the best of both worlds! The popular night spot, Pappy and Harriet's, is, a close 10 minute drive to live music there most every night with a great variety of music every time. The food and the dancing are great too!
This property was a new listing for VRBO as of November 15, 2011. WOW! We were booked for the whole month of December through New Years that year and this fabulous getaway has been enjoyed by many guests since then. Everyone has really enjoyed their stay and all the visitors have had one comment,'We hate To leave'. ;)
I have totally enjoyed being a vacation rental host. I have met some lovely people and have made friends. I look forward to many more visits from the awesome people I have met and I look forward to meeting YOU.
Thank you for your visit on line to view this property and please look at this property's reviews. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me, Dana.
Keywords: Relaxing 3 bedroom home set aside by itself, with the best views from 3 patios! Enjoy the woodburning fireplace on chilly nights. The minute you get out of your car you feel the relaxing atmosphere and the peace with sounds of Quail chearping.
Sleeps 6, but room for more.
The map has not mapped correctly. This home is on the corner of Geronimo and DESERT GOLD. THE RED INDICATOR ON MAP shows the property boundary not the actual house. You can see the house by satellite.
Most pets are allowed with charge, no fencing. Available year round.
I am a long time Desert Dweller, mostly from the nearby lower Desert area of Palm Springs, and now I spend as much time as possible in the high Desert of Yucca Valley. I love the open Desert environment with its Animals, Birds, and Peace. The Desert is a sunny place if you need some warm brightness for your soul.
I love to travel, however the Desert will always call me home. I love to go bike riding in the high Desert and there are many places right around my property to ride my bike out in the Desert with my two standard poodles in tow. By the way this property is pet friendly.
Dana Samalin purchased this chateau / country house in 2006
Of course, the high Desert called to me at some point, and then I grew to love it. Here I am now with a couple of sweet properties in this wonderful place. When I want quiet and peace, this is where you will find me! There is a no TV at my property and no distractiions from the busy world we live in. Most people have a wireless device they travel with that have their own connection. We do not provide WiFi.
When you walk onto the property and walk around the outside there is an immediate feeling of calm, a place to hang out and chill. Almost every window in the home has a lovely view of the Desert and mountains and valley! You can sit at the dining table and enjoy the view from a large window. There are three patios to enjoy each and every view. There are many quail and rabbits that live right there. When you put out seed, an army of enjoyable wild life appears as if you performed a magic trick.
As I stated before, this property is completely different from the lower Desert, except for the regular sunshine! I love the stars and the clear sky, the many quail running around, the cotton tails, jack rabbits, chipmunks, and chirping birds. I have my morning coffee by the big dining window or on my swing and watch the animals bathe in my bird bath or eat something in the bird dish. I can walk right into a trail on my property, or walk over to the edge of the Joshua Tree Forest and keep hiking. No need to get in a car!
Here I am away from everything, yet a 4 minute drive to shopping. This I find very convenient. The ever popular Jelly Donut is just right down the hill, along with several nice antique shops, etc. There is a great breakfast place close by, C&S Cafe, that I can tell you about later. Why cook breakfast if it's that good?
This home has solar units to heat the water and it's always hot and it's almost instant with a hot water pump. Having a dishwasher and washer and dryer is always a nice thing to have, especially on vacation.
I liked this home immediately when I first viewed it in person. The views caught me first and then the inside is an open floor plan with lots of big windows and doors and then the large wood burning fireplace is a great cozy feature that makes you feel extremely at home.
Of course I've done some new tile, carpet and some new lighting and general redecorating to make it feel even better. I have two standard poodles that I take for walks when I am there, we love dogs and understand the need to bring them with you. They are family too! There is no fencing, so sometimes I leave my pets in the garage with their beds and water. Yes they are well behaved, maybe pampered? There is a front porch swing and two other patios to enjoy. Fasten your seat belt and enjoy the view!
We added a WiFi connection recently!
We absolutely LOVED this place!! My husband & I stayed with 5 other friends & we all had a BLAST! The house was a nice size for our group. Dana was extremely welcoming and accommodating. I can't think of a better way to ring in 2014! The beauty surrounding the house sold us on the experience. We had our own personal place to explore without having to go anywhere and the views from the house are incredible! Especially with the changing light on the mountains. A photographer's paradise!!
We spent a lot of time at Joshua Tree National Park. Our nights were spent at the house, around the bonfire. Dana provided a nice ambiance with Christmas lights outside, along with some firewood. It gets dark enough that many stars can be viewed while staying warm by the fire. The house is also relatively secluded which allowed us to play music & talk loudly without bothering the neighbors.
The wildlife is very active around the house. Dana provides bird seed, which attracted several different birds, including a Roadrunner! Hummingbirds & rabbits also visited. Our group loved that there wasn't a TV. It was nice to get away from technology and just enjoy the moment! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a peaceful getaway that is secluded while also being close to town and JT. Hopefully a return trip is in the near future!! ; ). Many thanks to Dana for making this such a memorable experience for us all!!
We were a small group of friends looking for a quite place to ring in the new year and this house was perfect!
The house was lovely and had everything we needed. It was very convenient to town and wilderness, the best of both worlds!
I still stand by my original 4 stars and comments as they were honest...but I will not take lies.
Yes I have an australian accent... but I was not nervous.. I was in fact apologetic as we were late getting through customs and getting our hire car, and the first bank we went too were unable to do foreign exchange transactions that late on a Friday afternoon....then we got lost in LA as our phones which were meant to be ready for US weren', so we bought a phone card for a spare phone..... then I had to have a couple of 10 minute breaks on the drive out there as I had a micro-nap driving in 4 lane traffic at one stage... it was either that or have an accident. I apologised for this and kept our 'host' informed but we did arrive after 11pm.....not that I could do anything about it, but I also didn't realised the host lives in Palm Springs herself. We certainly knew we were in the bad books so maybe thats where the impression of being nervous came from.
Yes we did only have limited US currency but we did give enough Australian Dollars as security while we got the funds the next day.. but the bank would only give us another $2000 (which we drove to Palm Springs) and we had to return the next working day.. yes it was 3 days but we were staying for an extensive period of time and realistically we were talking about the last 3 days of our stay remaining and was paid on the day... I'm not sure what else we could have done in the circumstances other than go somewhere that took Visa (which we did from this point on for our remaining 5 weeks in LA) and other than the fact it was a convenient house I wish we did as this person does not deserve clients.... she has no understanding of what it is like to get to another country urgently having travel about 48 hrs and then be treated less than hospitably... hopefully she will treat her clients much better from now on.
Yes we knew about the lack of TV but didn't realise about the internet.
The oven... we found out about that when we got there and the tiny oven was pretty much useless and was used once. She never asked us how we went after telling us that's all there was.
The chair... now this is rubbish. Our kids don't jump on our furniture at home and didn't there and we never noticed any issue with it... we did notice issues with the dining chairs, of which 3 or 4 started to get loose and we notified the owner and put them in the garage to make sure we didn't actually bust them accidentally. Cheap and nasty imports.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. The house is well equipped and clean, with lots of light and beautiful views of the valley. Quail, finches, jays, rabbits and chipmunks came everyday to the bird feeder on the patio. There are also very nice hiking trails just a few minutes walk up the road. Highly recommended!
Firstly this house is clean, quiet, has a great view and has ALMOST everything you need for an extended stay. Enough fire wood was provided for a couple of fires and a nice bag of home cooked goodies left. Missing was a TV and internet (I had to spend $200) - I wouldn't have rented if I had realised. A silly exclusion in a modern world. With 4 kids used to mod cons the lack of a TV was a major disadvantage. Surely those who wanted peace and quiet could leave it off? I suspect the owner was worried about theft - even a suburban home we rented a couple of years ago in Cambodia had both!
The oven doesn't work (informed on arrival) and the mini oven isn't much of an option. The cook top has a loose element and the chairs were sub standard and prone to breakage.
Our main issues were caused by the last minute nature of our trip - we had to book one day and fly the next but final confirmation wasn't received until we landed for 3 hours in Dubai. Unfortunately we were unable to get all the cash as requested for the whole 2.5 week stay when we landed and could not pay the remainder until the next day. We paid enough for the deposit and first few nights and offered to go elsewhere when the owner displayed her dissatisfaction even though we explained our predicament... she begrudgingly took what we had but was on the phone early the next morning asking for the money... before we had even woken up after 40+ hrs of travel! The bank would then only give a limited amount for that day, leaving the last 2 or 3 days left to pay the next... well the proverbial hit the fan with rude questioning of whether we had the money in our account!!! I have never been treated like this in all my life. Oh, as a last last insult our CASH deposit was paid back as a cheque - out of the way trip to a bank and a $5 charge. What a joke.
The owner has obviously been badly burnt by tenants, has serious trust issues and isn't suited to the customer service orientated tourist industry. She does not listen and talks over top of anything you say, even when you try to help by telling her there are potential issues she immediately suspects it was our fault or something we had done!
We needed to be at the valley later but went elsewhere - Only 30 mins to drive up the hill.
If you must be at the Valley this is a great spot but make sure EVERYTHING is sorted out before you go and don't bother the owner - or don't expect to be treated with respect.
The “Birds Eye View” house in Yucca Valley is the perfect place for a (family) getaway. The quiet neighborhood provides a relaxing vacation atmosphere. The wonderful view, overlooking the Yucca Valley, is amazing day and night!
The spacious, well maintained house provides enough room for a family or two. The rooms are very bright and clean; their interior is convenient. The kitchen has everything you need, and more than we could use in 4 days, from a dishwasher over a coffee machine as well as a little oven. The amenity listing description and the photos are very accurate.
As climbers we appreciated the proximity to Joshua Tree National Park. Yucca Valley itself has Banks, grocery stores, pharmacies and everything you need.
Dana, the house owner, is a friendly and very helpful lady. It was a pleasure to meet her!
We would love to come back some day and hope that others will enjoy their stay in the “Birds Eyes View” house just like we did.
Ps.: There is no TV in the house and absolutely no need for it at this great location.
Star watching, art shows, flea market Sat. Sun., Gruber's orchid nursery, night life, bird watching, photography, film shots. Many companies still shoot film in this area. There are horseback riding tours that I know of in Morongo, 10 min. Drive.
A fabulous massage I enjoy right down the hill 4 min.drive, Reasonable pricing! The mineral springs in Desert Hot Springs, 20 min. Drive. Live theater is super great in the high Desert cities. There is a lot of great talent in Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and 29 Palms . You will find quality art everywhere you travel here. The Integraton is a good place to check out.
Of course in May and June the cactuses bloom and that is truly the height of our season. The desert will come alive to nature's calling.
You can take a day trip to the pacific ocean, Disneyland, the film studios in Hollywood, San Diego Zoo, Marineland etc.
There are bus tours leaving from the lower desert to great day trips out of the area here.
Tennis Jacobs Park just minutes down the street, and ice skating in Cathedral City, where I have taken my grand children. There are hugh concerts in Indio and night life in Pioneer town, music every night some well known bands from all around Calif. Monday night is fun with local performers at Pappy and Harriets. Bring your own guitar and sign up to perform!
My favorite resturant plus I love the good old down home cooking at the C&S Cafe on 62, just down the hill from the Birds' Eye View.
