This charming cottage is located on the north end of Longboat Key in historic Longbeach Village. You can watch sunrise from the community dock (steps away) and sunset from the nearby beach (a short walk).
Longboat Key has everything - great restaurants, shopping - check out St. Armands, and the beach is fabulous. The beach is beautiul white sand where you can easily laze away the day, walking, shelling, swimming and lying in the sun (or shade) or just gazing out at the water watching the dolphins.
The home has been remodeled - a 10 month job for my husband, myself and some great trades people. We've added all new electric, plumbing, and metal roof; tearing off and rebuilding the back of the house and installing two completely new baths, master and guest, and a new kitchen. The home has an open floor plan with a view from the living area to the kitchen and the back door. The back door opens onto a patio and lawn area. The living area is 1,250 square feet.
The spacious front room features a living and eating area, an office area with desk, wifi and printer (HP Deskjet 1000). There is a flat screen TV, electric fireplace and a lazyboy chair as well as a sofa, tables, etc. The kitchen features a handmade dockwood center table for gathering around or working on, as well as a bar area and granite tile countertops.
The master bath is adjoining the master bedroom and features dual sinks and an oversize shower. The guest bath has a shower/tub combination. The master bedroom features a king bed and flat screen TV. The guest bedroom has a convertible bed than can be either two twin beds or a king bed.
There is a free trolley during the season that runs south to Sarasota and north to the end of Anna Maria island.

We have five rental properties including two rentals in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Brian works for Tom George Yacht Group and is a former Airport Manager, and Karen is the Finance Director for Dunedin, FL. We moved to Florida from Colorado in May, 2012.

We chose a vacation home in Longboat Key because it's one of the most beautiful places on earth with the best beach in the world! We've been coming here for years and finally found our own little piece of paradise. The people in the Village are great and the snowbirds come for many years in a row, so there is a genuine feeling of community.
This home is one of the first built in Historic Longbeach Village. It is built with blocks made using local sand with conch shells and cement.
Thank you Karen and Brian for our second year in your Cottage!!! We loved our stay and so did our dog Sadie. Your Cottage was perfectly outfitted along with kayaks and bikes. The location was wonderful so near the charming harbor and close to the beautiful ocean. We hope to be repeat customers!!!!
Brian & Karen, thank you so much for the use of your cottage. We had a great time again. The place is just as nice as last year. We really enjoyed our stay. No tropical depressions this year. We will be back soon.

My wife and I spent the month of February at this wonderful retreat on Longboat Key. Located in the old, historic village on the island, this turned out to be much more than we expected. The people of the village were so welcoming, and quickly invited me and my golden retriever to join them for morning walks through the village, and to participate in an off-leash "dog 30" each night on the grounds of the art center. If you think Longboat Key is all multi-million dollar gated communities and high rises, you are in for a wonderful treat. The old historic village has everything you need with none of the things that you are trying to escape when you are on vacation!
The home itself met 100% of our needs. It was fresh, clean, and recently renovated with all the required amenities, including wireless internet access and sea kayaks. It is within walking distance of a great beach, and just a short drive from many restaurants and shopping. The owners were a pleasure to work with and ensured that we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable.
Our only wish was that there was a bit more privacy. This home is located directly across the street from two busy restaurants, meaning that there is fairly heavy automobile and pedistrian traffic each afternoon and evening. The upside is that they are both wonderful restaurants that we visited several times over the course of the month. This house could also benefit from some more privacy on the back patio, perhaps through the installation of additional plantings or perhaps a pergola.
Overall, this is a wonderful place to spend a weekend, week, month, or longer, that I would highly recommend. We never ran out of things to do, the weather was perfect, and we truly enjoyed the home and community.
This cottage was wonderful and beyond our expectations. Very clean and well maintained, but above all I loved the decor and how comfortable the interior is. As soon as I stepped inside I felt welcomed. We enjoyed the outside patio, shower, and the cottage's proximity to the bay, restaurants, and beach. My husband, my 25 year old daughter and I thought that everything was perfect! The owners were very accommodating and helpful. I would recommend Sunshine Cottage to everyone...just don't take our two weeks next year!
