Green Space: Jamaica Plain, often referred to in the 19th century as 'the Eden of America,' is one of the greenest neighborhoods in the city of Boston. The community contains or is bordered by a number of jewels of the Emerald Necklace park system designed in the 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted: Olmsted Park, from Route 9 at the Riverway south to Perkins Street, including Leverett Pond, Willow Pond, and Ward's Pond... Jamaica Pond has 60 acres (240,000 m2) of surface area and is the largest and deepest body of fresh water in Boston... Arnold Arboretum is a 265-acre (1.1 km2) world-renowned plant collection maintained by Harvard University, and contains Peter's Hill, the highest elevation in Jamaica Plain at 235 feet (72 m)... Franklin Park is a 527-acre (2.1 km2) park (the largest in the city) and holds the Franklin Park Zoo (the largest zoo in New England), White Stadium and the William J. Devine Golf Course.

Public transportation: The Green Line 'E' Train streetcar service terminates at Heath Street and South Huntington Avenue. Bus service continues along South Huntington Avenue, Centre Street, and South Street to its terminus at the Forest Hills Station. The Orange Line rapid transit train line runs below street level through the middle of Jamaica Plain, with stops at Jackson Square, Stony Brook, Green Street, and Forest Hills. Buses connect Jamaica Plain with West Roxbury, Hyde Park, and suburban Dedham and Walpole to the south, and the rest of Boston by street routes. Forest Hills Station is a major transportation hub and is within walking distance of the Arnold Arboretum and Forest Hills Cemetery.

Accommodations: Arthouse 2 has two bedrooms, one larger than the other. The unit is best suited for one to four person occupancy but feel free to inquire about a couple extra. We're painting the whole unit so we'll be posting new photos soon - available September 1st, 2011 just in time for parents visiting their kids at college and leaf peeping season!

In 1997, Jamaica Plain had the third highest percentage of tree cover of all Boston neighborhoods and the highest percentage in the Heart of the City. Jamaica Plain is nestled between tremendous open space resources, including Franklin Park, the Arnold Arboretum, the Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Pond, the Allandale Woods Urban Wild, and the Southwest Corridor Park, as well as numerous other smaller parks, tot-lots, and playgrounds. Jamaica Plain contains or is adjacent to more than 1,250 acres of open space.

Jamaica Plain is served by a rapid transit line that runs through the center of the neighborhood along the Southwest Corridor. The Orange Line that originates at the Forest Hills MBTA Station in southern Jamaica Plain includes three more stops in the neighborhood, and extends to downtown Boston and beyond.

My family and I recently stayed in this property. What sold us on this property was the location. It is a very short walk to the T. We didn't need a car. There is shopping and a playground within walking distance. The property has everything (and more) than you need for your stay.

The owner could not have been more accomodating. She was available to us via phone or text. There is a folder she put together that is in the unit giving you information on the unit itself and the area, including restaurants and menus.

I highly recommend choosing this property for your stay in the Boston area.

This apartment is very conveniently located to a T stop, and thus it was very easy to get downtown quickly (I was attending a conference). It also happened to be very close to my daughter's apartment, so we could easily visit, and still have our own (quiet) space. Plus, the 1/2 block walk to Ula's café means great coffee and sandwiches are just a few steps away.

The apartment though was quite cold, no matter how much we tried to adjust the thermostats. And the "art" during our stay (I understand it changes) was awful - large garish photographs of old drag queens in various states of undress. One or 2 might have been okay, but they were EVERYwhere!

There were a few blips with the state of the apartment when we arrived - bathroom trash full of used tissues, and coffee maker full of old grounds, but in general it was quite clean and fresh. And the bed was super comfy.

It being winter, we didn't get to enjoy the deck out back, but it looked inviting. Getting in and out was quite easy with the keyless system (I hate fumbling with strange keys!). All in all, we had a fine time.

Great Time at The Arthouse

3 of 5
Submitted: October 29, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
We recently had a wonderful family reunion in the Arthouse. Fortunately, both Arthouse 1 & 2 were available for our international family to come together for a long weekend. It was great to have this home-like setting in which to share meals, play old-fashioned games, and just enjoy one another. We participated in the fun and historic Sam Adams Brewery Tour and were relatively close to other venues. The photos shown of the apartment are very accurate. We had very good customer service.
Thanks, Christina & Will!

I just wanted to say that we truly enjoyed our time at your property which really turned out to be a 'home from home'. Thank you so much for all your help in arranging our stay - our impressions of Boston were made only better by the stay at the Arthouse and we hope to return in the future to spend more time in the beautiful city.

get a feel for Boston

Submitted: July 29, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
For those families on a budget,or for those travelers who wish to get a feel for the people and atmosphere of Boston, this condo is ideal. Located in Jamaica Plain, two minute walk from the T,public transportation, the rooms are clean and the neighborhood safe. For those who wish to exercise, there is even a good run around a pond.

Boston is a very multicultural town and this location allows you to get the a taste of the diversity .Fenway, the aquarium,Harvard, the Freedom Walk.....all are easily accessible from the condo by public transportation and the duration of travel time economic indeed.

This is an ideal respite for your visit to Boston.
