About The Owner

We have lived on the ranch for 28 years. We are lucky enough to get to manage the family ranch. We have three kids who help us out whenever possible. The ranch is a family venture! The Deerwood Ranch is now a Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary. Wild Horse viewing is available.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2011
Why The Owner chose Laramie

The Deerwood Ranch has been in our family for 30 years. The Centennial Valley is one of the most scenic landscapes we have ever seen. Falling in love with this country is easy to do!

What makes this cabin unique

While staying at the cabin our guests can walk, hike, fish, take a ranch tour, mountain bike, cross country ski and enjoy their beautiful mountain surroundings. Photographers will be thrilled with the photo opportunities. We have a firepit in the yard so campfires are enjoyed by many. The cabin sits on the bank of the Middle Fork of the Little Laramie River. Let the sounds of the river lull you to sleep at night with your window open to breathe the fresh mountain air. As of October, 2012 we are a wild horse eco-sanctuary. Guests will enjoy viewing the horses and seeing them in their natural surroundings. We also have deer, elk, antelope, moose, fox, coyotes and other animals that might be seen while out siteseeing.

Enthralled with Deerwood Station

My husband and I stayed 7 nights here and loved every single minute of it - hated to leave. The cabin was even nicer than the photos showed and the ranch was located exactly as described. There's a great, full length porch to sit out and enjoy just being alive. The porch has a cover over it with a couple large square openings cut in it that have slats over the openings to allow sunlight in. It's brilliant! The owner's attention to detail with decorating was incredible - the furniture, much of it handmade from timber from the ranch was so beautiful and made us feel so at home and in the Wyoming mood! Towels and linens were quality and plentiful. The cabin was very clean and there were great views in all directions. The owners are warm, friendly and made us feel extremely welcomed. There's so much beautiful scenery to see and explore on the ranch, it felt like having a national park all to ourselves. The Snowy Range mountains to the west of the ranch is also wonderful to explore. The Bear Tree Cafe in nearby Centennial is a must to get exceptional casual food and local color. Their soups are awesome. There's also a great little gift shop that also serves yummy ice cream in Centennial. Shopping for groceries and major items needs to be done in Laramie, however, just as the owners suggest. Centennial doesn't have any grocery stores, just a little convenience store that isn't well stocked. We spent our time exploring the ranch, loving the magnificent views and also exploring the Snowy Range and Laramie. We're going back for another 7 nights this year and are excited about seeing the wild horses that are on the ranch now! If you love the west, being in nature and great hospitality, you won't be disappointed.
Owner's Response: Wow. Thank you for the wonderful review. It was great to have you here and we can't wait to have you back!! Who knows what this summer's adventures on the ranch will entail.

Should We Share or Should We Keep It a Secret?

5 of 5
Submitted: September 9, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
Driving into a low of 29 degree night after very warm September days at home was our first blessing. I have to admit we were meeting the finest of cabin mates for this adventure. We started with wonderful inhabitants which expanded to include actual creatures and their songs of the night. The night sky lent itself to recalling and relearning its story. If the bears hadn't already swept the day's quarry from the finest of pools, we probably would have caught something for dinner. A drive through Albany on over to the confluence of the Platte River and Douglas Creek to a fine fishing hole or two was a great expenditure of daylight. Two bald eagles stood sentinel over those waters the entire time we were there. Just know they have some great stories to tell and advise to give. The fun was in the adventure. In spite of disappointing college football (NE, CU, CSU, WY) for everyone involved (revealed over dinner at the Albany Lodge) our grief was swept away by the serenity and joy of our quarters at Deerwood Station. Do not miss this opportunity if you find it tugging at your heart strings.

The cabin was very comfortable, clean, beautiful, and inviting. Much better option than the retail accommodations in the area.

Tremendous cabin, in an unequaled setting, with unrivaled hospitality!

Submitted: November 16, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
The cabin was everything we expected and so much more. The interior reminds me of a Ralph Lauren advertisement because it is homey and comfortable-yet immaculate and rustically elegant . The pictures are accurate, but don't capture the warm and loving atmosphere created by the joint effort of the family members who participated in constructing the cabin. We loved fly fishing on the property, sleeping with the windows open to hear the sound of the water just steps from the cabin, We enjoyed walks on the property and spotting wildlife. The owners and our hosts were exceptional. They are proud to have three generations living and working together on the ranch. Everyone was very warm and welcoming so that we immediately felt at ease. We felt so fortunate to have an opportunity to experience life on a working ranch, without the chores(lol) The location is ideal because the valley is so peaceful and non-commercial--yet only a 30 minute drive from Laramie. We stayed for two nights in September and wished we could have extended our stay, but we were too late and someone else was scheduled upon our departure. We are planning to make our reservations soon for a longer stay in 2012 My husband and I have felt fortunate to rent many nice VRBO properties. However, the Deercreek Cabin is truly remarkable and exceptional!
