Overview

Tucson House Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This is a private home near the Coronado National Forest Wilderness Area. This 4,000 square foot contemporary Santa Fe style home is beautifully situated on the one of the highest and most scenic improved parcels in the northwest Catalina Foothills at the base of Mount Lemmon. 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, with multiple porches and decks with some of the best views of the Tucson valley.

This home is nestled into a saguaro studded hillside at an elevation of 3,200’ (Downtown Tucson is about 2,350’). It is one of the highest estates in the northwest foothills of Tucson and the view must be seen to be believed. During the day, you can see the mountains on the Mexican border (68 miles away) and at night, the sea of lights of metro Tucson are below you. Behind the home is designated wilderness area filled with wildlife and improved hiking trails off of Pima Canyon. We have personally seen the following birds and animals in our yard: giant owl; giant hawk, bobcat, deer, javelina, coyote, humming bird, rabit and various other species. The daytime temperatures in the summer are about 4 degrees less than downtown because of our elevation and the nighttime temperatures in the winter run at least 5 degrees warmer because we are off of the valley floor.

It is only minutes away from many activities:

-Golf at Arizona National (formerly the Raven) in 10 minutes, Ventana Canyon in 25 minutes, and many more great golf courses within 30 minutes.

-Grocery shopping, restaurants, drug stores, and virtually everything you might need to purchase on a day to day basis are within 8 minutes.

-La Encantada, Tucson's premier dining and shopping venue, is 5 minutes away.

-St Phillips Plaza, another exclusive shopping and dining location, is about 10 minutes away.

-Tucson Mall is about 10 minutes away.

-University of Arizona is about 20 minutes

-Downtown Tucson is about 25 minutes

About Strom

I am a computer engineer who has traveled and lived around the world but have chosen to settle in Tucson due to its temperate climates, spectacular scenery, and abundant wildlife.

Strom purchased this house in 2010

Why Strom chose Tucson

This property simply has one of the most spectacular views in Southern Arizona. You can see mountains in Mexico over 80 miles away!

What makes this house unique

I like sitting on the porch or in the hot tub in the evenings enjoying the spectacular sunsets and the amazing city lights.

The mountain and city views from this house are spectacular! The host /owner was wonderfully accommodating. We loved working with him. The furniture, the bedding, and the outdoor patio furniture were all in great shape, and created comfortable living areas throughput the whole property. The pool is clean and warm with incredible mountain and city views, as well. The surrounding area is whisper quiet. We loved staying here, and we plan on renting this property again!

Lovely home, gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this lovely home at the end of March for 10 days. The house is nicely decorated, well maintained and very comfortable. The views at night from the patio and the living room are gorgeous. The pool and spa are a little complicated to operate but once you get used to it, it is no problem. There are some great views from the spa! The home is located in a gated community slightly up in the mountains but still close to everything.

The home is well stocked. There was nothing that we needed that wasn't there for us. The owners are easy to work with and very accommodating.

As mentioned in a prior review, there is a home in close proximity. We were told that someone is only there occasionally to check on the home but that no one lives there. That is exactly what we experienced. It would be too close if someone was staying there so it is worth asking about.

Overall, a great vacation experience.

Heavenly views, room, and amenities

  • 5 of 5
We got back the other day from two weeks at this place, and it was by far the best of quite a few places we have rented in Tucson for two week vacations in recent years. The views are spectacular - it is well up in the hills, so there are miles of gorgeous views looking out across Tucson to the south, and in the other direction are the rugged mountains. There is a huge amount of internal space, with a couple guest bedroom suites quite separated from the master, so if you have guests or family you still have privacy. There is plenty of outdoor space, both shaded and in the open, the latter surrounding the lovely pool and spa. Unlike some other places we've been where the owner pretends that the pool heater doesn't work so they can save on energy expense, the owners here check the gas meter when you show up and let you set the temp at whatever you want for as long as you want, with you paying whatever it costs them. That couldn't be more fair, IMO.

As for amenities, the kitchen is extremely well equipped with whatever you might want, including a top notch coffee maker. If I would quibble, it would be that the dishwasher and microwave, although they work fine, are getting on in years and are noisier than today's best models, but that is a trivial issue. Sheets, towels, blankets, etc., are all of good quality and in ample supply, and the washer and dryer are high end too.

The house is located in an upscale gated community. There was some construction at two new places up the street, one of which was quiet finish work, and one was more noisy because of some earth moving equipment making back up noises, but that should be done soon and was never all that bad even at its worst.

The owners, Strom and Margot, were great - really nice and helpful in many ways.

As far as we were concerned, the place fully deserved all five stars, however I'll put a little asterisk on that. The place was originally part of a two house family compound, with no wall between the two properties. At some point the owner of both units changed plans, and sold off this one to Strom and Margot. Whoever happens to own the other house now essentially leaves it unoccupied, stopping in rarely just to make sure everything is OK. So no one was renting it for the two weeks we were there, and the privacy at our place was fine. Had the owner of the other place rented it out, our privacy and enjoyment might have been much less. So it is worth asking about that I think. Thanks.

Perfect home for our wedding ceremony and reception

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful week-long stay in this gorgeous home, and ended the week with our wedding ceremony and reception. Family from out of town stayed in the house with us and they loved everything, the girls especially loved the pool. It was a perfect home for our small wedding. The large outside patio with incredible sunset and city lights views was a beautiful spot for our ceremony. The home was very comfortable and the owners were a pleasure to rent from - very easy to work with and so helpful. All our family and guests loved our wedding location. Thanks to the owners for an amazing stay!
