Photos and Description of the Bar Harbor vacation cottage rental
1 king bedroom suite, second bedroom, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps total of 3

'Thankful Cottage' is located in the Village of Bar Harbor near the Town Pier, Town Beach, historic Shore Path walk, and the Museum in the Streets tour. Built before the Civil War, the cottage has been lovingly rehabilitated and features the perfect blend of nostalgia with modern amenities. The cottage has off street parking and is walkable to boating, shopping, dining and cultural activities. Bar Harbor is named for the 'bar' to Bar Island which forms the harbor. Bar Island, portrayed by David Maitland Armstrong in his late 1800's painting, 'The Bar, Bar Harbor', is visible from the cottage.

The top floor of the cottage is master suite with king bed, sitting room with water view, walk-in closet, full bath and deck with water view.

The first floor includes a modern kitchen, living area with gas fireplace, den with pull out twin bed and a second full bath.

Wonder why the cottage is named, 'Thankful'? We traced the deeds back to a woman named Thankful Rodick who in the mid-1800's lived in the cottage. While Bar Harbor is thankful that this

little cottage has survived for 160+- years, we actually named her after the person Thankful.

We hope you will be 'thankful' that you picked her for your stay in downtown Bar Harbor. What could be better after a day of boating and hiking, followed by a gourmet dinner, than a walk home to your own historic cottage in the heart of Bar Harbor?

About Sherry Rasmussen

We, Sherry and Ivan Rasmussen, have been involved the ARTs in Bar Harbor since the early 1970's. We own galleries and artist studios on the Bar Harbor Waterfront. Ivan, who was once Bar Harbor Harbormaster, has spent most of his life near the ocean in

his native Oregon and now on Mount Desert Island which is home

to Acadia National Park.

Growing up Sherry's beach was Virginia Beach in her native state. She traveled extensively as an international flight attendant.

Though her travels took her to many beautiful destinations, she

says that Acadia National Park is truly one of the world's great treasures.

Ivan captures the beauty of the island in his watercolors that he

sells in his own and other galleries.

We live right in the Village near our vacation rentals because Bar Harbor is one of Maine's most walkable communities. It is also a short walk or bike into the National Park. A free bus runs from mid-June to mid-October from the Village of Bar Harbor into Acadia National Park and to neighboring Villages. The Village of Bar Harbor is surrounded by Acadia National Park and the nearby Bar Island is just a short walk from the cottage. Did you know that the 'bar' across the 'harbor' to Bar Island is the reason for the name of Bar Harbor? You can see Bar Island from the cottage.

We love to share our community and island with visitors from around the world. You check in for your week at our ART on West Gallery. We are there to get you started on a perfect vacation.

Sherry Rasmussen purchased this cottage in 2003
Why Sherry Rasmussen chose Bar Harbor

Rare is the opportunity to rent an 1850's cottage in a perfect resort location. For your convenience there is private, off street parking and the amenities of the world renowned Village of Bar Harbor are all walkable.

Because the cottage rents Sunday to Sunday, it is a perfect honeymoon hideaway after a Saturday wedding. It has also become

a favorite for anniversary celebrations.

You will delight in the historic maps and collectibles that take you back to another era, yet you will enjoy the modern conveniences that make your stay enjoyable.

What makes this cottage unique

Location, location, location. The cottage is located near the water and close to Bar Harbor's most upscale hotels. Come home after a busy day and an evening out to a cozy cottage with gas fireplace.
