We first fell in love with the community of Timber Ridge when, on a chance opportunity of finding the community gate open, we took the private road which leads to the beach, park and boat launch areas. The drive through the beautiful woods was magical and culminated in a stunning view of Lake Windermere. As custom home builders, we were particularly excited to find our property during a family vacation. Nestled in a mature community, this property had not yet been developed. We were excited for the opportunity to design and build the cabin of our dreams in the beautiful Columbia Valley community of Timber Ridge. The result is a lovely, executive style cabin nestled in the trees. One of three phases in the community of Timber Ridge, the cabin sits on a quiet cul de sac that is accessible only by local traffic. The landscaping and positioning of the home on the lot provides seclusion and privacy in the backyard. On the interior of the cabin, the windows are strategically designed to bring the outside in, while the folding glass walls in the Great Room and Dining Area extend the interior space out to the Deck. Both beautiful and practical, this cabin is perfect for entertaining large groups. We hope you enjoy 'Timber's Den' as much as we do.

Linda and Aldo Laratta purchased this bungalow in 2004

Our cabin is conveniently situated in the Columbia Valley on Lake Windermere where Spring comes at least one month earlier and Fall one month later than in Calgary, Alberta which is only a 2 1/2 hours drive away. Being so close to Calgary, it is only a short, but beautiful, drive to our vacation home. It is close enough to head out to the cabin on weekends and to drop back into Calgary, when necessary, during longer stays in the summer. Conveniently located a short distance away from the National Park Resort Town of Banff, we often take little side trips into Banff on our way to and from the cabin. The Radium and Fairmont Hot Springs Resorts are short distances from the cabin and we are conveniently located in the middle of a hot bed of Golf Course Resorts, including Copper Point, Eagle Ranch, Radium Resort, and Grey Wolf.

We start our day with a coffee on the deck. Often we walk or jog along the tree lined private roadway to the lake. Walking, it takes about 15 minutes each way. Joggers , will continue along the lake and park. If it's beach day, the 3 minute drive is great for hauling beach gear and those who wish not to walk. A boat day launch is at the private marina and boat slips are available for rent there as well. The beach overlooks a swimming and diving dock area which is great for families with children. And if you want to do nothing, slide open the glass walls, drop the electric screens and enjoy the cabin. In the winter, skiing, skating, snowmobiling all end with a cozy fire. When our lives slow down, we will be spending most of our days at Timber's Den.

Great Golf Getaway

  • 4 of 5
We just got back from our annual golf trip - our third year at Timber's Den. The house and location are perfect for our group of 8 with beds enough for everyone, a big well-stocked kitchen (love the new stove with the huge burner for a pasta pot), lots of indoor/outdoor space for socializing, and of course the back yard fire pit. We played three courses in the area and Timber’s Den was a great base to return to every evening.

In general the house is in great shape but there are a few things that we noticed on this trip. Things are starting to show their age – the deck furniture and the deck itself is really weathered, the BBQ needs to be replaced (we had to clean it to get it to work properly), and we couldn't find a sharp knife for example. I’d also agree with a previous reviewer that the kitchen needs to be de-cluttered and given a thorough cleaning. Drawers and cupboards are crammed full but disorganized and there is nowhere to store the groceries you bring with you. I realize that the clutter happens because of the renters (thanks to whoever filled the sugar bowl with salt and left it next to the coffee maker for us…) and not the homeowners, but I do feel that a regular top-to-bottom cleaning and de-cluttering would go a long way to making this a perfect retreat.

All in all, I would highly recommend Timber’s Den and we look forward to our return next year.

Owner's Response: Hi Doug,

We sincerely appreciate your feedback and suggestions . Our cleaners did do a top to bottom clean only one month ago, but I can understand that clutter in the drawers might suggest otherwise. I have contacted our cleaners who will be attending at the cabin today to do some overhauling of the kitchen cupboards. They will also be making room in the island bank of drawers for guest storage. The barbecue has now been attended to and is in good working order again. It is only a couple of years old, but it has been well used by our guests! Thanks again for your comments and we look forward to having you stay with us again next summer!

Cheers,
Linda

Great home for large group

  • 4 of 5
We have rented this home for a couples golf weekend for the past 3 years. This home comfortably sleeps 4 couples, with lots of space. The deck is wonderful for visiting. The kitchen is fabulous for preparing large group meals, and my favourite feature is the large fire pit in the back yard.

Good Home for a Large Group

  • 3 of 5
We chose this property because it was large enough to accommodate our large group under one roof. However, for the price, we were disappointed in the location (it was not right on the lake) and we found the property to be in a state of disrepair and not very clean. The furnishings, cabinets and interiors of cabinets were dirty and worn. The light fixtures were full of bugs and the carpet in the main living area was torn to shreds. We have rented in the area before and it was not in the same caliber of luxury homes right on Panorama mountain. While this house was probably a beauty in its day, it has not been well maintained. The house had an indoor and outdoor fire pit, yet there was no firewood available. For the price we paid, we felt this was inappropriate that we had to go out and buy our own wood. Furthermore, we had to ask in advance to ensure that the house would have a Christmas tree for our holiday - this luxury home had a 2 foot mini in the corner. Having traveled at Christmas before, this was not up to par.

Owner's Response: Hi Cathy,
Thank you for your review. I regret the misunderstanding regarding the proximity of our home to the lake. As per all homes in the private lake community of Timber Ridge, the lake is accessed via private road. I assure you that our website is clear in that regard.
Our home was built in 2004 which makes it approximately 20 years newer than most homes in the Timber Ridge community, I appreciate you pointing out that the cabinets are worn, but please know that the dark, real cherry wood, is wearing only in isolated areas in the kitchen near high traffic areas; namely, the sink, dishwasher and coffee maker. Similarly, the area rug under that main kitchen table is frayed. We have purchased a new one and had hoped to replace prior to your arrival. We are working on having the cherry cabinets touched up.
With regard to your comment about the cleanliness of the light fixtures and cabinets, we take pride in our cabin and will be sure to instruct our cleaning contractor to do an extensive clean inside cabinets and fixtures. Thanks for the heads-up.
As for the Christmas tree. Being stationed in Calgary, we did our best to accommodate your request. I now wish I had the opportunity to haul out a tree and the area rug for you. But I assure you that I did not ask my cleaner to erect a small tree. I believe she did what she felt she could manage on her own accord. I assumed it would be a reasonably sized tree and did not think to give specific direction with regard to size. With regard to the firewood, yes, it would have been the right touch for a winter arrival. My sincerest apologies for the oversight and I will send you a rebate to cover the cost of what we normally supply for firewood.
As this is our second season at managing our property on our own, we appreciate your comments and will make the necessary changes to ensure that all of our guests have an excellent experience.
Thanks again for your input.

Sincerely,
Timber's Den

We'd like to thank the owners for such an amazing property to call home for 4 days. This home has fabulous options for the number of rooms, beds and bathrooms for families or a large group of friends. Our group of golfers will be booking this home for our trip next September.

Invermere Vacation Oasis

  • 5 of 5
What a superb stay at your VRBO Timber's Den! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, loved the layout of the home and were so pleased to spend the week in your lovely vacation oasis. We found everything to meet our needs and have to complement you on how user friendly your instructions and directions were. An added bonus and surprise was the spaciousness off the back yard complete with firepit and plenty of lawn for three young boys to roar around in. We had our own little kid's pool along and set it up on several occasions for them to splash in, and sitting around the fire at night to enjoy smores was a highlight for the little ones, as were the frequently visiting deer. We barbequed, enjoyed the deck, used our bikes, took in Fairmont Hot Springs, hiked the Voodoo Trail, walked along the long ridge and other trails almost daily, rented a boat to do some tubeing, and even tried a mountain glider for an hour! Our family discovered Invermere is quite lovely and the recreational possibilities are endless.

Thank you again for all your help in creating this wonderful family vacation for us. Perhaps we will be back again next year!

Nice Property, Poor Managment

  • 1 of 5
Although the property itself was very nice, location was great and a lot of room for 8 women I had a really hard time communicating with the owners. I found it difficult to plan this trip for 8 friends when I didn't receive emails or confirmations back. The contract was not sent until a few days prior to our departure and I still have not received the damage deposit back and we are going on 3 weeks since out stay. I have also sent 3 emails with regards to the damage deposit - still nothing, so I am a little disgruntled. The kitchen was fully stocked, more than necessary as we didn’t have a free cupboard to store our groceries and we found the kitchen to be more like "someone’s" kitchen rather than a rental property. (Needs to be de-cluttered and cleaned out). Best part of the property was the wonderful backyard and upper deck area.

Owner's Response: Hi Michele, I am happy to hear you enjoyed our property and amenities and found it worked well for your large group of eight adults. I am truy sorry that you did not find that our communication with you was adequate. We work hard to maintain excellent communications with our customers and have been successful outside of yourself. We were kept busier than usual in the months of July and August as we were fully booked and our own holidays landed at the end of August. As a result, the information getting out to our September customers was slower than we would have liked. We did refund your deposit to you earlier, but found it was sent to an invalid email address due to an incorrect spelling of your name. We apologize for the error. We will keep your comments in mind for next year's busy season to ensure that we continue to maintain our reputation for excellence in property and service.
