Quiet Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This was a spur of the moment vacation. I literally booked it 2 weeks before hand. The property management company were fantastic to work with. The listing and photos accurately reflex the location and property. The house contained everything that was needed (towels, bedsheets, pots/pans and dinnerware). Although, the pots/pans could be replaced. The house wasn't dirty, but still could use a nice deep clean. There were cobwebs on some of the walls and the wood floors could use some old fashion hand washing (but I'm a clean freak and most people would probably not notice this). The front porch was really nice and we hung out there and blew bubbles every day.

This is a very quiet sleepy beach town. The closest Walmart is about an hour away. There is a Food Lion, Chinese Carry Out, Liquor Store and Dollar Store in a nearby shopping center. There is a small strip of stores in the "downtown" area. We did not dine at any of the restaurants, although they looked good. Be prepared and buy any of your supplies before hand (again, limited shopping). The main complaint was there was no WiFi or Starbucks (we are such city folks)!

My favorite part was that the beach was literally one house and across a street! We felt like we were on our own private beach. It was never crowded and everyone we met were friendly. We were lucky enough to be there on the same weekend of the Cape Charles Clam Festival. Our kids enjoyed the town parade and the carnival/festival.

All in all, we had such a fun stay. My daughter did not want to leave. The quiet, sleepy town environment was a hard adjustment, but it forced us to "log off" and disconnect and enjoy living in the moment and being in each other's company.

An amazing vacation.

This Beach House suited our needs to a T! The Property Management Team was so helpful, the cottage was described accurately in the description in Homeaway. There was no hose to wash off outside, but that was corrected with an old hose given to us by the friendly neighbors at the B & B next door. We were lucky to have perfect weather, and I tried to have activities planned in case of bad weather...but keep in mind, there is no wifi at the cottage. Our dog misses the screened in porch and golf cart rides and so do we! This is our second time using Homeaway and have recommended it to friends. I would definitely recommend this rental in particular. In particular....the beds are wonderful. Soft and large, we slept like babies. The light in the dining room needs to be rehung and if it had wifi, it would be perfect, but I am glad to give it 5 stars anyway.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at Sand Castle Cottage and in Cape Charles. We could sit in the living room and see the sand dunes as the picture shows or out the front to see beautiful homes and landscaping. The cottage was perfect for my husband and me with our two dogs. The location was perfect for walking on the beach. The sign says no dogs April 1 to Labor Day, but the Realty Co. told us it was okay till Memorial to Labor Days. The locals and tourist had other dogs out as well. Even during restriction dates it's okay before 9 am and after 9 pm.

We could walk into town anytime, the locals are so friendly and the shops quaint. The bathrooms in the house are a bit awkward but we loved it there. We already plan to return. Great place the cottage and town.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Sand Castle in August 2011 & loved it. It is one house away from the beach, so the location is perfect. It is equipped with everything you need & the bedrooms are actually bigger then they look in the pictures. The only issue was that the bed in the master bedroom is a bit uncomfortable, but even for that I would not give it another rating. The public beach is beautiful & pretty empty, even on the weekends. There are no waves, and the water is shallow, so we never had to worry about the kids playing in/by the water. Locals are very friendly, and the town very nice & quaint. We will definitely come again, it was the perfect family beach vacation.

Quiet Time

  • 4 of 5

We spent four wonderful quiet days in this historic Cape Charles home just 1/2 block from the beach. Location couldn't be better.

The house has a lots of space and is furnished with everything we would have wanted. Once the central A/C is installed it will be even more comfortable. Bathrooms are compact.

The community has many interesting old homes and some beautiful new developments. There is a great coffee shop and the Aqua is a special restaurant for unique dining. Don't miss the cafe at the drug store.

Although the immediate area doesn't provide a lot of entertainment, it is that very character that makes for a wonder beach-centered quiet vacation.
