3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6)

A historic Villa, built in 1916, this house enchants with it's location at the top of the Riviera, it's privacy down a long private gravel drive, spacious rooms, & breathtaking views of the entire Santa Barbara coast. Having owned the Wine Cask Restaurant for twenty years, we have had numerous spectacular events here.

One enters through a vaulted breezeway to the entry courtyard where the old gardens and shade trees soften the view and provide separate and distinct areas for all forms of rest, relaxation, contemplation and entertaining. Formal dining room, foyer, living room, and library all have french doors that open onto different private gardens and terraces. High ceilings throughout and casual, but, elegant decor including hardwood floors and seagrass flooring, give the house a comfortable feel that combines the best of Spanish Colonial architecture with modern day California living. All the upstairs bedrooms have ocean views, arched windows, and wrought iron balconies.

The outdoor dining area has both fireplace and gas grill. Complete kitchen with Garland commercial range, etc....

Two master suites upstairs with king beds & baths. Middle bedroom with queen bed, Library on main floor can accommodate one or two twins beds.

While providing a tranquil setting for a romantic get-away or event, the location is also just minutes away from the Mission, downtown Santa Barbara, and white sand beaches. Wine Tasting in Santa Ynez is 30 minutes away. This is the quintessential Santa Barbara home, where one can easily imagine being in the south of France or on the Amalfi Coast, without the airfare!

The unique benefits of this House: Anyone who has every stayed at or rented this house, comments on how tranquil it is and feeling far away from the busy world. Often guests come with long lists of things to do and see while here, but, confess on departure that they were so content on the terrace, they found it hard to leave the house. We hope you will enjoy and explore our beautiful town, but, if you are just as happy to have wine and cheese and watch the sunset from the comfort of your own villa then this is a good fit for you.

If you are looking for a place between, July 25 and August 22, 2013, please inquire about a unique offering right down the street. $2500/week for lovely Spanish style family home with gourmet kitchen, beautiful gardens, and hot tub. Photos on request.

About Laurel Margerum

After living in Italy for several years, we were almost ready to make the permanent move, but, there is really nothing that beats Santa Barbara as an idylic spot all year round. Now the boys are older and I'm traveling more, so hope to have others enjoy this house as much as we have. I have another house in Carmel, California, and find the same guests come back year after year. I hope to continue that same experience with this house in Santa Barbara.

When we first saw this house over twenty years ago, it was love at first sight. It was the third house built on the Riviera and when you experience the view for the first time, you can understand why the sight was chosen. It has a very romantic European feel to it and being in the wine business, that also was very appealing.

Great ambiance, fantastic views, charming and quirky

This Riviera home had oodles of charm and character. This old-World Mediterranean-style home was expansive and roomy with drop-dead gorgeous views of Santa Barbara and the Pacific beyond from almost every room as well as the many patios, balconies, decks and garden paths. This property is very quiet and private and has lavish and lush landscaping. There is plenty of interior space as there are many rooms and all are large and welcoming. As this is an old home, there are a few quirks which mainly add to the charm. The second Master bath has a tub and hand-held shower- watch out for the spray! The power fluctuates dimming and brightening the lights from time to time but everything worked fine at all times. The kitchen and pantry are well equipped for dining and entertaining. Our host, Laurel Margerum, was very easy to deal with and greeted us warmly on our arrival. She gave us a full house tour highlighting the features and quirks of her amazing home. Santa Barbara is a great vacation destination with lots to do, lots to see and generally superb weather. The dining, shopping and wine are all outstanding. This home complements the pleasures of an SB vacation in every way.

Santa Barbara at its best!!!

Our group of 6 stayed at this exquisite home Labor Day weekend to celebrate a wedding at a nearby resort. This historic property lived and breathed romance!! We were all captivated by the warmth and elegance of the spanish-mediterranean design and architecture throughout the home and gardens. From the grand entryway to the panoramic views of the coastline from within each bedroom including the stone tiled patio and fireplace overlooking all of Santa Barbara made for perfect entertaining. Our 3 night stay along with the owner's gracious hospitality made for one of the most memorable experiences in our lives. Thank you for sharing this special place with all of us :)

Planning Our Next Visit

We booked this villa for our family to stay at the weekend of my daughter's wedding last September.
It was positively perfect. Views galore, outdoor spaces, plenty of room to eat, play, sleep and even hang my daughter's wedding gown with its long train. The rooms are spacious and so comfortable.
Laurel is very generous with the ammenities in the house. It felt like home, and I can't think of one thing that we needed.
I am looking forward to going back in October! We were so busy with the wedding last year. This visit will be spent enjoying this property!
We are pretty regular visitors to Santa Barbara. I've stayed at some great places, but this house will always be my first choice in the future. It's tucked up in the hills. The views cannot be beat. It's a quick drive down the hill to the mission and downtown.
We will venture out to get croissants at Renaut's Bakery (the best!), and perhaps visit one of the many fabulous restaurants in SB (Stella Mare, Jane, Milk and Honey...), BUT honestly, our plan is to just relax for a couple of days in this wonderful place.
Laurel is fabulous to work with. I have recommended this place to many people, bragged about it to anyone who will listen, and have encouraged our wedding coordinator and floral designer to check it out as a petite venue for events. It's a gem!

Small Wedding a Major Success

We rented this enchanting property for our small wedding in February. The property has such a wow factor and really amazed us and our guests. We were married on the patio overlooking the coastline, the islands, and the city below. The gardens and house are so gorgeous. The experience was truly beyond our expectations and we all had such a great time relaxing and enjoying the grounds and the views. I felt like we were in Italy. The housekeeper, Margarita, helped us with food, table and coffee prep and was there to help things run smoothly, which turned out to be a very good thing. If you are going to have a small wedding, you can't go wrong having it here! It's unbelievable. We want to rent it again for our anniversaries!
