We both have businesses on Long Island in New York. We try to get to Maine every couple of months to enjoy our camp and relax, however, now that our son is grown, we're finding that it's getting less use, so we've decided to rent and let others enjoy it as well!
Karen Andrews purchased this cabin in 2001
We started as renters ourselves, first renting a camp on neighboring Sand Pond. In 1996 we purchased our land, and in 2001 we broke ground on the house. Construction took us five years to complete, but it was well worth the time spent! The house is gorgeous!
We love unwinding from our busy lives at Locke Pond, especially relaxing in front of a roaring fire, or hiking around the pond, or paddling about in the kayaks. We also have the best neighbors on Locke Pond, very friendly and very helpful!
First I must mention Karen was a pleasure to work with! She made it very easy to accommodate and book our family vacation. She was wonderful which made booking our vacation hassle-free.
The Andrews home on the pond is beautiful! Very clean and very comfortable! The charm and appeal of the home was amazing. The layout/design made it unique to the lake. Love how the master bedroom had its own slider to the wraparound porch. Plenty of room for our family of five. Beds were very comfortable and house was tastefuly decorated. This home is also truly secluded. Very few neighboring homes and the peace and quiet allows you to hear the loons while you relax & de-stress.
Our kids swam to the raft everyday except one (rain day). We kayaked and took in the peace and beauty of the pond each morning. We had ping-pong games, played cards and enjoyed the DVD/VHS movies as well. We also roasted hotdogs and made s'mores :-) The trail to the dock was awesome - the bridge over a tiny creek was the same design as the wraparound porch of the home. = very nice.
We enjoyed the nature too. The kids were fascinated with the loons. The brochure you had about them on the desk was quite informative. We saw frogs, fish and spiders.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation! This home is well-managed, beautiful and a serene place to enjoy!
It was my wife and I and my three teenagers who visited the property. It is just far enough away from civilization without being too far. Walmart was an easy 15 minute trek. You just melt into it when you get there, because it is just so beautiful. I titled this "Too Good" because it made me imagine living this way full time, which makes it hard to go back to the hustle and bustle. We spent an average of 4 hours a day paddling around the lake. Fishing was a great time, especially for my kids who never really caught anything before. I took pictures of some beautiful types of mushrooms growing on the property.
My husband and I had such an amazing time at this little piece of paradise. I can't decide what was the best part! The house is so clean, comfortable, and well decorated. From the outside it is looks like a traditional rustic cabin and the inside is an elegant home curated with everything you need to relax in comfort. With a great board game, movie, and book collection I don't know how anyone could be bored. The ping pong table downstairs was wildly fun and we felt like kids again after some serious competitions. We had coffee on the dock watched loons on the pond when we could tear ourselves away from games. But if we couldn't we would open the windows and listen. Their calls are so beautiful and we saw five of them swimming together one morning! The boats are clean and there is a nice swim raft if you like to swim. The huge wrap around porch was perfect and we both took unexpected naps in hammocks at times.
Wilton had their annual blueberry festival during our visit and we also hopped over for a day to Rockland for their lobster festival. We found a 'U Pick' wild blueberry field and came home with quarts and quarts of beautiful berries. There are enough restaurants in the surrounding towns to satisfy an urbanite for a week or two if you don't like to cook and although we didn't get there there is a bowling alley that looks like it's packed.
We had a raucous thunderstorm with non-stop lightning and both fell asleep on the porch watching it roll by. For the rest of the week we enjoyed a babbling brook that emerged overnight to direct the runoff toward the pond. Gorgeous! We met Mike, who is the caretaker for the house fixing the road after the storm. He was very nice and friendly and gave us some great recommendations for places to go and some good insights into the area. It was nice to know that he lived so close by in case we needed anything, but he didn't bother us even once!
This place is truly serene and relaxing for two, but I could also see a gaggle of kids running around with enough things to do that Mom could just sit in a hammock all day while the kids run past and occasionally ask if they can have another snack.
I highly recommend this home and would go back tomorrow if I could. I can’t imagine a better or more authentic Maine vacation!
Everything that has been written about this lake front retreat is completely true. Karen was extremely helpful and flexible. Her home was spotless and the porch is not only a work of art but a place that invites one to simply linger and take a big exhale. Thank you.
I cannot say enough about this beautiful, hidden gem in the woods of Locke Pond! We were looking to escape from reality for a weekend without having to fly to a cabin out west and we found that in this lake front cabin. The stillness of the environment and quietness of the surrounding woods was unlike anything we would ever be able to experience back home. From the incredibly crafted cabin to the firepit overlooking the lake...this place was beyond peaceful!! The best part about it was that we could explore the town and mountain trails around the area, but then escape back to our cabin when we wanted...all within close proximity! To top it off, the property managers, Dawn and Dennis, were incredibly helpful and thoughtful, making every personal detail of our trip possible. We look forward to returning to this magnificent lake front retreat!
My family and I spent the last 2 weeks of summer in this beautiful Maine cabin in the woods. The house was immaculate, comfortable and offered everything needed to swim, fish, canoe, roast marshmallows, grill or prepare a meal in the kitchen. My children loved exploring the pond in the paddle boat, fishing from the dock, catching frogs and playing ping pong. We all enjoyed the peacefulness of the wrap around porch, laying in the one of the two hammocks, or rocking in one of the rocking chairs, listening to the loons and watching the birds, including the humming bird we saw on several occasions. At night we would fight over who was going to lay in the window seat to watch one of the many movies available. We took day trips to Bar Harbor, Bangor, Portland and Rangely (in search of moose that we never found), but what we really enjoyed most, was staying on Locke Pond relaxing, playing games and enjoying nature. Dennis and Dawn are wonderful caretakers of this gorgeous home and were available if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this home for a family vacation.
