A working ranch for grass-fed Black Angus, Double Down Ranch is a 220 acre property located near Asheville, Lake James, Lake Lure, and the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. The property supports approximately 75 head of cattle, various horses, goats, cats, and donkeys. Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at Double Down Ranch was a TRUE family vacation. Not only is the property a perfect place for a family get-away...with horses, goats, cats, fish, cattle and 200+ acres to hike, what's not to love...but the ranch home itself is a very special place. We (a family of 5) went with another family of 5 and a family of 3 and had more than enough room! The house is warm and inviting in design. And as if all that was not enough, we had cornhole, games, movie, music and the best part...bonfires and s'mores! The location is perfect for day trips to Asheville and Lake James but we never left the property! A truly specal vacation and we will be back.

AMAZING VACATION! AMAZING GET AWAY!

  • 5 of 5
I have to start by saying WOW! Pictures could never do this place justice.
This was our very first time renting a home. Someone else's home. So we had no idea what to expect. The owners of the property were extremely helpful and kind. They made sure all our questions were answered and that all are needs were met. The house is MAGNIFICENT! A true gem hidden away in a small town. Every detail and comfort was thought of. The huge vaulted ceilings the two sided fire place. The love and care that is put into this home is evident. You can't help but feel at home. To look out the window and see a herd of cattle is indescribable and it is quite amusing how when you walk down the path they stare at you quite intensely.
We were a family of 13 ranging in age from 60+ to 7 every single one of us had a phenomenal time. If you want to just get away, disconnect, relax and take in the outdoor this is your spot. We will definitely be back. Oh and where else can you go and see a baby calf be born right in front of you? AMAZING!!!

Wonderful lasting memories made!

  • 5 of 5
A great place to make some wonderful lasting memories! The house was well appointed, comfortable and a perfect fit for our family of eleven. To be able to fit all eleven around the table to share a meal, reminisce, and celebrate being together is a cherished experience! The property and house are breathtaking - no detail has been overlooked. We enjoyed fishing, visiting with the animals, and just relaxing on the deck that overlooks the pastures, the large pond, and mountains. We visited Asheville, Lake Lure, and Lake James all within a 30 - 35 minute scenic ride of Double Down Ranch. The Owner of the property was a delight to work with, making sure our every need was met and then some! This was truly one of the best rental experiences we've ever had. We look forward to returning to Double Down Ranch in the future!

Double Down

  • 5 of 5
My family and I spent a week at the Double Down Ranch. The house was spectacular, very spacious and set up to handle a large group of people. The kitchen was furnished with everything you could need to prepare great meals. The kids loved feeding the horses and fishing. It is a very tranquil setting, feels remote, but is within reasonable driving distance to many hiking trails and other tourist attractions. Elizabeth was very easy to deal with and I believe truly tried to make our stay pleasant and memorable. Definitely a great place to stay!

Beautiful home & wonderful vacation

Beautiful home & wonderful vacation
  • 5 of 5
Double Down Ranch was absolutely fantastic. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated and filled with everything you will need for any length of time. There is so much to enjoy right on the property. The kids loved being up close to all of the animals. They really enjoyed fishing in the private lake.
There are many activities to do in the surrounding areas. We enjoyed horseback riding, gem mining, zip lining, Grandfather mountain, The Biltmore, & Lake James. We had a fantastic trip & made great memories at Double Down Ranch. We would love to come back again.

Best of Both Worlds

  • 5 of 5
The Double Down Farm is absolutely gorgeous. The farmhouse is spacious, yet feels cozy and comfortable. It feels way off the beaten path, yet it is only 10 minutes from Interstate 40. It would be a wonderful place for a family reunion, or a couple's getaway. It is close to many mountain attractions, such as Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, and not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway. But there is no reason to go anywhere, as it is a great place to just walk around or go fishing in the pond. We love to pet the horses. Just pet one, and the others come wandering up. I like to sit on the porch and soak it all in. My family and I have stayed here on other occasions, and it is always clean and well-maintained. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5
Our family spent Labor Day weekend with other family friends and their children at Double Down Ranch. I must say it was hands down the best family vacation we have ever had. Each morning we would start the day by looking at the amazing scenery that surrounds the ranch. We then would take all the children to the barn and spend hours feeding, grooming, and "hanging out" with the horses, donkeys, and adorable cats. In the afternoons we enjoyed following the trails by foot or by bike, swimming in the pond, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, playing "baggo" on the deck, relaxing on the hammock...the list goes on and on. In the evenings we enjoyed sitting on the fabulous deck and looking up at the stars or sitting around the amazing campfire, cooking smores, and listening to music. Double Down is perfect for really anyone of any age. There are so many activities for all different age groups and interest levels that it is the perfect place to be. My husband and I cannot wait to go back again. We made so many wonderful memories there. Our weekend at Double Down Ranch was idyllic. I truly did not know that such a place existed!
