As this is truly in the heart of one of DC's hottest nightlife neighborhoods, it may not be a good spot for people that are particularly noise sensitive or very light sleepers. On Friday & Saturday nights especially you will hear people on the street as they walk back to their cars or the metro after the bars close.

Don't bring your car. This is a great spot for walking to everything and street parking can be difficult to find.

Guestbook comments from the owner
What a great reno - loved the blackboard (I have an old red painted door for my headboard!) Very comfortable and cozy.

Thank you and I will love you forever for:

1. The wine - lovely

2. The coffee!!!

3. Nice toiletries, et al.

4. Soft, thick towels

5. Great shower - the whole bath was A+

6. The sheets were so soft - and lots of pillows - perfect bed

Just a few ideas for additional, helpful stuff:

1. Flashlight

2. Kitchen towels

3. Small card table - store beside refrig - for eating. We're 60+ and had trouble sitting at the coffee table on the floor.

4. Stopper for kitchen sink

5. Extension cord for coffee pot.

Thanks for a lovely place to get-away.

I am an architect living in Washington, DC

Tim Dowdy purchased this apartment in 2006

This was the first apartment I've ever owned. I now live with my boyfriend in a nearby neighborhood.

I love walking around all cities, and sitting out with friends enjoying a coffee or beer and good conversation. This apartment is perfectly located to enjoy everything Washington DC has to offer.

Perfect Vacation in the City.

  • 5 of 5
I knew from the moment that I found this apartment listing on VRBO that this was where I wanted to stay on my first trip to Washington, D.C. From the beginning, the owner, Tim, was friendly and helpful. I read all of the prior reviews before contacting Tim to arrange for our stay. Everything is just as others have said. The apartment is in a great neighborhood. It's so pretty and Adams Morgan has many restaurants, coffee houses and fun bars with live music. The apartment itself is just as seen in the photos. It's clean, nicely furnished and maintained and very comfortable. My husband and I could not have been happier. We walked everywhere. No need for a car. The metro was easy to use and there are two metro stops within a 10 minute walk of the apartment. D.C. is a beautiful city with lovely, elegant architecture. I was surprised at how beautiful a city it is. Walking was a pleasure as there was always something interesting, historical or just plain pretty to look at. Tim was available and responsive to all of our questions and gave us great suggestions on where to dine and beautiful architectural gems that we would have missed if he hadn't suggested them to us. I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough. It's perfect for a couple. Tim, thank you for making our two weeks in D.C. a perfectly memorable vacation.

Clean apartment in great neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5
Very nice apartment that was perfect for my girlfriend and my first trip to DC. Apartment was very clean. Kitchen was great to cook a simple breakfast in before a full day of sightseeing. I would recommend not having a car during your stay as the Metro was a simple 12 minute walk and will take you pretty much anywhere in the city and parking looked to be a bit of a hassle. Neighborhood was wonderful and very safe. Other reviews have complained about noise do to foot traffic from 18th St but we didn't find that a problem in the slightest. Can't recommend Amsterdam Falafelshop, Smoke and Barrel and Black Squirrel enough! We didn't need him but our host was very attentive and would have been there for anything we needed. Definitely would stay here again if/when we make it back.

Wonderful D.C. neighborhood

  • 5 of 5
This spotless Washington D.C. apartment is a comfortable respite from the busy downtown sights and attractions. An easy 10 city block walk to two different Metro stations provides you the leisure to appreciate this wonderful neighborhood with its striking architectural row houses and relaxing gardens out front. So no need really for a car. We were comfortable walking even until the midnight hour. Our hosts have everything ready for you, including plenty of great ideas for dining and sightseeing. The decor of the apartment is a trendy mix of mid-century modern pieces. Our only complaint was slow internet connections. We would definitely return! Thank you to our host!

Nonna's Treat

I took my 15 year old granddaughter to Washington DC on an introductory tour. We were only in town for four days, so it was important not to have to spend a lot of time communting. The apartment could only have been more perfectly located if (for the benefit of my aging knees) the last few blocks walking from the Dupont Circle Metro station were not uphill. Thank heaven grandmas can spend a few bucks on a cab! The neighborhood is great - LOTS of tasty and interesting restaurants, cool little shops, interesting architecture. My granddaughter really enjoyed all of that. It's downhill (YEA) to the Metro station and, from there, you can get anywhere easily, including to and from the airport and/or Union Station. The apartment itself was comfortable and attractive, and on a very quiet street despite all the trendiness in the general area. It took me a few "Goldilocks" tries to find the chairs that weren't too low for me to get up and down from, but I got there! The owner was very accessible by email - and would have been by phone if we'd needed him - but we didn't feel as if he was hovering. We moved in and enjoyed ourselves. We shared the bed because we're good at that, but I'd recommend this great place for a couple - not for folks who really need two beds. All in all, a lovely find!

Great property

My husband and I arrived to a clean and charming little apartment on a street close to everything either by bus or Metro. We were within walking distance to the Smithsonian Zoo in Woodley Park. If you walk a block down the street to 18th and turn left, you will find little shops, a post office and a number of good eating establishments. The bus and Metro system will get you anywhere you want to go.
Tim, one of the owners, was helpful from the get-go. We exchanged emails before, during and after our visit and he was very helpful in recommending places to eat and directions to the Metro.
I would suggest that if you are planning to stay only in D.C. that you not rent a car as parking on the streets is hard to find. We did not have a car and did just fine getting around.

There can be significant noise from the street on the weekend and even sometimes during the week but the owners have supplied earplugs if you need them (we didn't). Also if you need a dark room to sleep in, you might consider using blackout masks as the bedroom remains somewhat light all night long from street lights.

It was unusually HOT during our stay and having a partly below ground floor apartment was a bonus as the place stayed comfortably cool even on days that were in the mid-80's and up to 90 degrees!
Stay here! the price is right and the apartment is lovely!

Restful Retreat

  • 5 of 5
Thank you so much for the lovely stay in DC. Work at the Hill kept me stressed and knowing I could look forward to coming to this restful retreat made it abit easier. I ran every morning, despite the chill in the air, seeing new sights, trying new places for coffee. I loved Tryst, and tried Jolt and Bolt as you suggested. I absolutely love the neighborhood. I will be back to stay again! M
