Shooting Star Cabin #6770
Shooting Star Cabin 6770 is a big, handsome house set right in the middle of an adventurer’s Eden – the vast, wildly beautiful Shooting Star Ranch. Bordered by a clear stream and the velveteen practice greens of Shooting Star’s legendary golf course, Cabin 6770 has the mullioned windows, peaked roofs and majestic stature of a barn. Two large wings, connected by a two-story glass “bridge,” form the house, which is characterized inside and out by a layering of modern design and rustic tradition – rich in detail, texture, and comfort. Its saturated colors, soft leathers and plush oriental rugs make Cabin 6770 feel homey and warm, never overwhelming. Outside, the stream serenades the airy rooms day and night with the quiet, constant sound of rippling water.
The heart of the house is the second-story great room, which holds the living area, dining area and kitchen. It is anchored at both ends by light and warmth: a wood-burning fireplace in the living area, and opposite it, in the kitchen, a beautiful stainless steel range. Between the two are the gathering places: long leather couches and plush armchairs; a thick wood dining table; a breakfast bar with high-backed stools. Each is a welcoming spot for convivial get-togethers or quiet conversation. Overhead, rough-hewn beams are a nod to Wyoming’s frontier heritage, while in the kitchen the smooth stone countertops, top-of-the-line appliances and under-counter warming, refrigeration and wine cooler drawers are exemplary modern comforts. Windows line the walls, each with a glorious view to behold.
Outside on the wide stone terrace, the fierce and gorgeous landscape rolls away to the mountains. Sleeping Indian and the Tetons seem to hold up the sky. Golden stones pave the outdoor dining area and surround the hot tub as well; there is a gas grill and a portable firepit. From here, the view across the lawn, stream and golf course to the mountains is your own. This is the place for steaks, cocktails and s’mores in the evenings, lit only by a trillion stars and the big Wyoming moon.
Shooting Star Cabin 6770 has two master bedrooms, one up, one down. A glass bridge leads from the great room past breath-taking panoramas of the ski slopes and Gros Ventre Range, to the high-ceilinged upstairs master bedroom. Here, a king-size bed faces a monumental stone fireplace that ignites at the touch of a button; its wide granite ledge makes a fine warm bench on a chilly day. A writing desk stands beside a big picture window. A casement window over a classic club chair frames a view up to the gondola station at the top of Rendezvous Mountain. A roomy walk-in closet provides plenty of space for unpacking.
The master bathroom is paneled in creamy painted wood; a long soaking tub is set under a mullioned window, between a glass-walled shower and double sinks. Outside on the landing, a loveseat can be unfolded into a full-size bed; and a little powder room stands right beside it.
The downstairs master bedroom is wrapped with windows on three sides; when the windows are open, the room fills with the stream’s music. This second master – like the first – has both a stone, gas fireplace and a very nice walk-in closet. A king bed faces the fire and a view over the practice greens to Sleeping Indian. In the private bathroom, a shower/tub combination waits besides double sinks and a single large mirror. There is a separate water closet.
Along the corridor from the downstairs master bedroom is an attractive den with a flat-screen TV. The couch, lined with vibrant throw pillows, may be pulled out into a bed for spillover sleeping. Farther along is the bunkroom – a cheery, carpeted sunny bedroom with a double bed topped by a single bunk, perfect for children and teens. A private bathroom has a tub/shower combination.
With dazzling proximity to the slopes, and more than nine kilometers of groomed Nordic trails, this location is a skier's dream.
Shooting Star Cabin 6770 comes with a trio of bikes for guest use. In summertime, it is entirely possible to never climb into the car. Smooth, safe bike trails lead all through the Shooting Star grounds, to Teton Village and even over to the hip little town of Wilson. In Jackson, fine dining, theatre, art galleries, boutiques and antique stores await; it is a very sophisticated town in a very, very beautiful place. Shooting Star Cabin 6770 provides a fantastic home base for all that Jackson Hole has to offer.
