A Fabulous Place to get away to...

5 of 5
Submitted: March 6, 2013 Stayed: February 2013
Surchin’s End was the perfect retreat for me. The location is both accessible and remote, on the water with the tide coming in and going out, views of Cadillac Mountain and the expanse of coastal Maine. I loved being there in February! The owners had given me simple instructions to set up the hot water and turn on the heat. Within an hour of arriving I felt settled in.
The house is large and cozy and clean with comfortable furniture and beautiful artwork decorating the walls. A great selection of books and DVDs tempted me to indulge in escape but I set up my work station and miraculously completed my project in 4 days with time to venture out and hike and explore the area. I especially appreciated the large kitchen, dining and living area. Every day I sat at the large dining room table with views of the winter landscape and worked. I would take breaks to make myself beautiful meals and cups of espresso in the immaculate kitchen, which was so well stocked with every appliance and utensil one could ever want or need. I felt very taken care of...like someone had anticipated my every need and provided it for me.
I will definitely be planning another “retreat” at Surchin’s End in the near future!

Surchin's End was the perfect rental home for the 4 of us. The home was clean, comfortable and with all the amenities we could hope for. It was a great location for day trips or to just relax. We truly enjoyed our vacation. (watch out for the mosquitoes on summer evenings)

The owners are very accommodating and helpful. Arrangements were a breeze!

Beautiful location

This is a beautiful location, about 45 minutes away from Acadia, and 15 minutes north of Schoodic point. This house is perfect for the family and couples too, with a great relaxing porch and an ENOROMOUS kitchen, fully stocked with cookingware, and made me want to go home a go to culinary school. Id recommend this house to anyone- its clean, newly updated, hidden in the woods and about 100 feet from the shoreline. Schoodic Point is as close to the untouched New World as you're going to get in the US. Reminded me of Ireland, except without the people. Quiet, quaint, large amount of birdlife. And Birder's beware, we found a bald eagle family of 7 loom about 7 minutes up the road on Rt 200 by accident. Osprey, Loons, Seals galore, but you have to be patient. The owners are nothing but friendly and reasonable, and do everything to guide you and help out. THanks!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review... So glad you mentioned the Eagles! We have just discovered this natural wonder ourselves in recent weeks! Will work on getting some photos posted.

A beautiful vacation week

5 of 5
Submitted: August 28, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
Our family of three (including a nine year-old daughter) had a spectacular time at Surchin's End. There are some wonderful potters (ceramics) in the area. We also visited an international sculpture symposium where sculptors from around the world had 6 weeks to complete a granite sculpture that would be placed in a Maine town in the end. The location was beautiful to see Mount Desert Island (the main part of Acadia National Park) across Frenchman's Bay and made a day trip there very easy.

The house was a joy – beautiful furniture and art work - exactly what I had hoped for. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms are wonderful and the bathrooms are very nice. I loved staying in this house. And all communications with the owners was always nice and easy. They really want their renters to have a good time.

Truly wonderful!

Owner's Response: Thanks-you for your lovely comments and for reminding me about the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium. I think it runs this year till September 14th. But even after that you can explore and see the results of the event. We have a map in our house that shows the locations of all past sculptures. It's so much fun to come across one of them while exploring the area! And YES... we really do want our renters to have a GREAT VACATION!!!

A Perfect Vacation in a Perfect Setting

5 of 5
Submitted: August 15, 2011 Stayed: July 2011
To say we hated to leave Surchin's End, at the end of our stay, would be a gross understatement. My wife and I have vacationed on the Maine coast six other times, but our stay at Surchin's End was, by far, the most restful and enjoyable. This time we were accompanied by my wife's sister and her husband, both of whom had never visited Maine. They were both enthralled by the beautiful view of Frenchman's Bay and Cadillac Mtn. from the deck of Surchin's End and the wonderful accommodations of the property (as were my wife and I).

Being located between Bar Harbor and the Schoodic Peninsula, Surchin's End afforded the perfect location for day trips to both areas. Short drives to Winter Harbor, Prospect Harbor, Birch Harbor, and Corea gave us access to out-of-the-way antique shops and antiquarian book stores....as well as lovely gift shops, local crafts, and fresh garden produce.

The house is beautifully appointed, homey, and comfortable. Everything one needs to make one feel at home can be found at Surchin's End. Mark and Di Landman are the perfect hosts. They are absolutely the most friendly and accommodating couple imaginable. From the unexpected but lovely bottle of local wine upon our arrival to the nice note awaiting us upon our arrival home, we can say nothing but good things about our Maine vacation at Surchin's End.

If you're looking for a wonderful and affordable place to stay on the Maine coast that has scenic ocean views, I would heartily recommend you try Surchin's End. Our stay there was marvelous and I'm sure you would enjoy your stay there, too.

I won't even mention the $5.75 lobsters to be found 4 miles down Highway 1....at Tracey's Restaurant (owned by a local lobsterman). These lobsters and clams are taken from the sea the day you eat them.....yummmmmmy.

I know you'll enjoy Surchin's End as much as the four of us did.

Butch, Sharon, Don, and Carolyn.......from Arkansas.

Owner's Response: Hey Arkansas Friends! Thank you so much for the complemnetary review! We are so delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our home. You will also be glad to know that we now have more recognizable pot holders and a rolling pin all ready for you the next time you come to visit our way. We hope you had a pleasant trip back home. Did you find any good children's books Calvin?
Stay well and enjoy those grandchildren!
Sincerely
Mark and Di
