Overview

Beech Mountain Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths, Sleeping Nook; Sleeps 6; 1 King, 2 Queen Beds

The 'Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain' is a cozy cabin with large windows that provide amazing panoramic 100-mile long range views of the Appalachian Mountains. The Aspen Ski Loft is located just 50 steps from the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. The elevation of the Aspen Ski Loft is 5,200 feet, which ensures the views are awesome, cool weather during the summer, and lots of snow in the winter.

In September 2014, the kitchen was completely renovated by changing the footprint to provide a larger food preparation area and cooking space with new counter tops, including a full size convection oven with smooth cook top range, large built in microwave, new refrigerator with ice maker, and new dishwasher. In addition, all new kitchen cabinets and drawers were installed.

Also in September 2014, the windows in the kitchen and living room were replaced to provide clear, expansive long range views. In the summer months, the awning at the top of the windows can be opened to allow full house circulation of the cool mountain air. The new windows and increased insulation means better comfort in the winter months.

Also during the September 2014 renovation, the flooring in the living room and kitchen area was replaced, as well as getting a new leather sectional sofa, slipper chair, coffee table, and sofa table for the living room, as well as a new King sized bed, dresser, night stand for the guest bedroom, along with new mattresses and box springs for the master and guest bedrooms.

The September 2014 remodeling is in addition to previous renovations which have been done to continue to improve the experience for guests of the Aspen Ski Loft. Since purchasing the home in October 2010, we have added new ceramic tile in the lower level to replace the carpet, purchased new clothes washer and dryer, replaced the old inefficient fireplace with a new wood pellet fireplace, replaced the carpet and installed new windows in the master and guest bedrooms, completely painted the exterior and interior, added new lighting inside and out, and installed a Nexia Home Intelligence system for remote management of the door locks, thermostats, lighting, and water heater.

The main living area of the Aspen Ski Loft has a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Master bedroom has a queen bed, with a private bathroom with a Japanese soaking tub and a shower. The guest bedroom has a king sized bed, with easy access to the main bathroom. The finished lower level has a separate entrance, and has a den, a sleeping nook with queen bed, and the laundry room.

On the main level, the living room has a rock hearth with a wood pellet fireplace that keeps the house toasty warm. The wood pellet fireplace is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, you can have a real wood burning fire in 10 minutes. There is also a flat-screen LED TV with digital cable and DVD player above the fireplace.

The Aspen Ski Loft is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. You can literally walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding.

During the spring, summer and autumn, the Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. There are numerous biking events, and from June through mid-October, the Beech Mountain resort lifts are open to carry your bike to the top of the mountain for extreme downhill biking. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trail on and around Beech Mountain, with the Emerald Outback Trail being within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft.

Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the Aspen Ski Loft is located right across the street from the ski slopes. Therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road. A 4-Wheel / All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are strongly recommended during the winter months.

The area in which the Aspen Ski Loft is located is one of the most unique areas in Beech Mountain. While this area offers stunning mile high views and proximity to skiing, it also faces challenges in terms of adequate parking for residents and visitors. Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft will be issued a temporary Parking Permit to be used during their stay.

Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain nearby, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games, which are held each summer.

During the autumn, all types of festivals are held in the surrounding area, including The Wooly Worm Festival and the Autumn at Oz weekend.

Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Rocky Mountains. During the winter months, you have access to all the wonderful winter sports within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, including downhill skiing, tubing, sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. There are three other ski resorts located within a 25 minute drive (Sugar Mountain, Appalachian, and Hawksnest).

The Blue Ridge Parkway is located just 15 miles from Beech Mountain, offering a beautiful 2 hour drive to Asheville, North Carolina.

Access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim: Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have access to the exclusive Beech Mountain Club, with access to golf, swimming, tennis courts, and the Fitness Center. Contact the owner of the Aspen Ski Loft for more information about access to the Beech Mountain Club.

Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a small fee, guests have access to the Beech Mountain Club, with 18 hole Golf, Golf Clubhouse, fitness center, private restaurant, Children's Day Camp, tennis, Olympic pool and hiking.

Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc.

About Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners

Roger and Michele Peterson live outside of Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia.

Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners chose Beech Mountain

After we were married in 1996, we enjoyed a ski vacation at Beech Mountain with our children. We decided to purchase a vacation home in 2010 and share it with our guests when we are not using it.

What makes this cabin unique

When we saw this beautiful rock home, we fell in love with it. The long-range mountain views from the living room / dining room / kitchen are amazing and beautiful! And being only 50 steps from the ski slopes is awesome!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment posted by owner on behalf of guest:

Roger and Michele,

The Aspen Ski Loft was a very comfortable and great place to stay. We enjoyed watching the grandchildren in view from the cabin getting off the ski lift and skiing down the mountain. However, we were not counting on four days of snowing which presented a handicap going up and down the many series of steps at the cabin and also digging out the car to go anywhere. On the other hand, we laughed exceedingly throughout the days at the amusement of watching many, many cars including the snow grader sliding around and digging out of the curve near the cabin!

We would like to add a comment on a particularly vendor, and that is Fred's General Store whose reception was fantastic.

superb location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for letting us stay in your house. We had a great time. The location was the best, very close to the ski slope as described. We only needed to carry our gears, put them on, and skied away. Going back was as easy. No need to trudge through the resort's parking lot. The house itself was clean and efficient for our family of four. The bed in the basement needs safer ladder to get into, though. But we will surely recommend this place to our family and friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you Anik for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it. We are glad you and your family had a great time at the Aspen Ski Loft. You really lucked out! You reserved the Aspen Ski Loft for a week starting in Mid-March, and got the "Spring Special", which are the lowest rates available at the Aspen Ski Loft. And then, there was so much snow on Beech Mountain this winter, the Beech Mountain Ski Resort stayed open until March 22. So your timing was perfect! Yes, it is great that the Aspen Ski Loft is so close to the ski slopes! Simply walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk 50 steps across the street, and you are at the top of the Lower Shawneehaw ski lift. So you can put on your skis or boards and start swooshing! We are glad you liked the way the Aspen Ski Loft was clean and efficient for your family of four. Thank you for your comment about a safer ladder to get into the sleeping nook in the lower level. Michele and I will see if there is a better alternative. Thank you recommending the Aspen Ski Loft to your friends and family. Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, for writing such a great review, and for being such a great guest. Michele and I are looking forward to having you return again as our guest at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain! - Roger

Ski Weekend

  • 5 of 5

When we look for a place to stay, it needs to be updated, have an awesome view and be walking distance to the slopes. The Aspen Ski Loft has all that and more. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. Loved sitting on the porch swing and watching the skiers get off the lift, which can be quite entertaining. Not only is the loft conveniently located to the slopes but is also very close to restaurants, Fred's Market and ski rentals. In addition the owner Roger was very attentive to our needs and responded very quickly to our questions. We will defiantly be back .

And we are also glad that you like the Aspen Ski Loft's proximity to the slopes! It is great that you can walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start swooshing! Best Ski trip Ever

  • 5 of 5

We planned a ski trip to Beech Mountain and chose to stay at the Aspen Ski loft.

The Aspen loft was the perfect fit for our family and friends who joined in our adventure. Every thing worked perfectly i have zero complaints. We had so much snow it was amazing. Our kids loved it and learned to ski and snowboard. We didn't want to leave, the view was breathe taking and I felt at home at the Aspen. We will be back and I highly recommend this home to others. Roger was great to work with and always available for any question I had. I highly recommend in the winter months that you have 4wheel drive or All wheel drive, its true about the road being covered in snow and ice. Thank you Roger and Michelle we had an Epic ski trip keep up the good work we will be back. thank you, Mike and Lisa

Owner's Response: Thank you Mike and Lisa for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are so glad you had a great time at the Aspen Ski Loft! That is great that your children were able to learn to ski and snowboard! Yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is a mesmerizing place, so I can understand why you didn't want to leave. And the 100-mile views from the floor to ceiling windows in the living room and dining area are truly breath-taking! I am glad you are planning to return again to the Aspen Ski Loft. Thank you for your kind words about our responsiveness to your questions. Michele and I realize that when someone is planning for a trip to where they have never been, even for a vacation, it can be stressful. And especially for you since you were driving from Florida to Beech Mountain during snow and ice! And yes, you are correct - - a 4-wheel drive or All-Wheel drive is highly recommended during the winter, because there is snow on the roadway coming off of the ski slopes. Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft and for writing such a great review! You were a great guest, and you are welcome to be our guest again at the Aspen Ski Loft!

Great stay, will be back!

We stayed here for two weeks, christmas through new years. First, the communication with roger was amazing from the day we booked all the way through to our departure. We were provided via email with detailed instructions on how to operate the home, tips on where to visit, shop & ski rentals etc. upon arrival at the home we were very pleased to enter a very clean and well maintained home. The aspen ski loft also had everything we could possibly need right down to throw blankets for cozy nights in front of the fireplace. The location of the loft is perfect, right directly across the street from the lower Shawnee lift which was perfect for us as we wouldn't be happy with the snow blowers running all night in front of some of the other homes directly on the slopes. Overall we had a great time and plan on another trip next winter staying at the aspen ski loft.

Aspen Ski Loft - Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, and a few friends took a trip to Beech Mountain, NC at the end of January and stayed at the beautiful Aspen Ski Loft @ Beech Mountain. We enjoyed every second of our 3 day stay!

The owner provided specific driving directions to the cabin that got us there with no problem. It is recommended that you follow the driving directions provided vs. GPS once you get into the town of Beech Mountain.

To begin with, Aspen Ski Loft had absolutely beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, AND was only a few steps away from the ski slopes/lift. The large windows in the cabin allow you to see for hundreds of miles, and the sunsets are to die for!

The cabin was extremely clean when we arrived and came equipped with everything we needed to prepare dinners. There were plenty of towels, dishes, toilet paper, etc. There were also snow sleds and board games that we took advantage of. The beds were comfortable with clean sheets and blankets.

The owner provided specific departure directions, along with directions on how to work the fire place. Everything that we would have needed was provided, and we did not have to contact the owner or housekeeping for anything.

I would absolutely recommend Aspen Ski Loft to any couple or family. It was a wonderful stay and we will definitely be going back!

Notes:
The Aspen Ski Loft has a wood pellet fireplace that is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, guests can have a real wood burning fire in about 10 minutes. The temperature is controlled by the thermostat. As the room warms, the fire adjusts according to the temperature setting on the thermostat. The Aspen Ski Loft has electronic keypad door locks which do not require a key. It is not necessary for guests to stop by the property manager's office to pick up a key, guests do not have to worry about losing the key during their stay, and guests do not need to return the key to the property manager's office. Guests are assigned an easy to remember 4 digit code that is valid for the duration of their stay. The code expires at departure time, so guests have added security because previous guest's codes are no longer valid. The Aspen Ski Loft Wi-Fi network is password protected for the security of our guests. Instructions provided prior to arrival.
