Overview

Beech Mountain Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths, Sleeping Nook; Sleeps 6; 1 King, 2 Queen Beds

The 'Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain' is a cozy cabin with large windows that provide amazing panoramic 100-mile long range views of the Appalachian Mountains. The Aspen Ski Loft is located just 50 steps from the slopes of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. The elevation of the Aspen Ski Loft is 5,200 feet, which ensures the views are awesome, cool weather during the summer, and lots of snow in the winter.

In September 2014, the kitchen was completely renovated by changing the footprint to provide a larger food preparation area and cooking space with new counter tops, including a full size convection oven with smooth cook top range, large built in microwave, new refrigerator with ice maker, and new dishwasher. In addition, all new kitchen cabinets and drawers were installed.

Also in September 2014, the windows in the kitchen and living room were replaced to provide clear, expansive long range views. In the summer months, the awning at the top of the windows can be opened to allow full house circulation of the cool mountain air. The new windows and increased insulation means better comfort in the winter months.

Also during the September 2014 renovation, the flooring in the living room and kitchen area was replaced, as well as getting a new leather sectional sofa, slipper chair, coffee table, and sofa table for the living room, as well as a new King sized bed, dresser, night stand for the guest bedroom, along with new mattresses and box springs for the master and guest bedrooms.

The September 2014 remodeling is in addition to previous renovations which have been done to continue to improve the experience for guests of the Aspen Ski Loft. Since purchasing the home in October 2010, we have added new ceramic tile in the lower level to replace the carpet, purchased new clothes washer and dryer, replaced the old inefficient fireplace with a new wood pellet fireplace, replaced the carpet and installed new windows in the master and guest bedrooms, completely painted the exterior and interior, added new lighting inside and out, and installed a Nexia Home Intelligence system for remote management of the door locks, thermostats, lighting, and water heater.

The main living area of the Aspen Ski Loft has a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Master bedroom has a queen bed, with a private bathroom with a Japanese soaking tub and a shower. The guest bedroom has a king sized bed, with easy access to the main bathroom. The finished lower level has a separate entrance, and has a den, a sleeping nook with queen bed, and the laundry room.

On the main level, the living room has a rock hearth with a wood pellet fireplace that keeps the house toasty warm. The wood pellet fireplace is controlled by the thermostat on the wall. With the touch of a button, you can have a real wood burning fire in 10 minutes. There is also a flat-screen LED TV with digital cable and DVD player above the fireplace.

The Aspen Ski Loft is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift of Beech Mountain Ski Resort. You can literally walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding.

During the spring, summer and autumn, the Aspen Ski Loft is a great place for mountain biking and hiking. There are numerous biking events, and from June through mid-October, the Beech Mountain resort lifts are open to carry your bike to the top of the mountain for extreme downhill biking. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trail on and around Beech Mountain, with the Emerald Outback Trail being within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft.

Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the Aspen Ski Loft is located right across the street from the ski slopes. Therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road. A 4-Wheel / All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are strongly recommended during the winter months.

The area in which the Aspen Ski Loft is located is one of the most unique areas in Beech Mountain. While this area offers stunning mile high views and proximity to skiing, it also faces challenges in terms of adequate parking for residents and visitors. Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft will be issued a temporary Parking Permit to be used during their stay.

Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain nearby, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games, which are held each summer.

During the autumn, all types of festivals are held in the surrounding area, including The Wooly Worm Festival and the Autumn at Oz weekend.

Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Rocky Mountains. During the winter months, you have access to all the wonderful winter sports within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft, including downhill skiing, tubing, sledding, ice skating and cross-country skiing. There are three other ski resorts located within a 25 minute drive (Sugar Mountain, Appalachian, and Hawksnest).

The Blue Ridge Parkway is located just 15 miles from Beech Mountain, offering a beautiful 2 hour drive to Asheville, North Carolina.

Access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim: Guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have access to the exclusive Beech Mountain Club, with access to golf, swimming, tennis courts, and the Fitness Center. Contact the owner of the Aspen Ski Loft for more information about access to the Beech Mountain Club.

Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a small fee, guests have access to the Beech Mountain Club, with 18 hole Golf, Golf Clubhouse, fitness center, private restaurant, Children's Day Camp, tennis, Olympic pool and hiking.

Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc.

About Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners

Roger and Michele Peterson live outside of Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia.

Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Roger and Michele Peterson, Owners chose Beech Mountain

After we were married in 1996, we enjoyed a ski vacation at Beech Mountain with our children. We decided to purchase a vacation home in 2010 and share it with our guests when we are not using it.

What makes this cabin unique

When we saw this beautiful rock home, we fell in love with it. The long-range mountain views from the living room / dining room / kitchen are amazing and beautiful! And being only 50 steps from the ski slopes is awesome!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Comment posted by owner on behalf of guest:

Roger and Michele,

The Aspen Ski Loft was a very comfortable and great place to stay. We enjoyed watching the grandchildren in view from the cabin getting off the ski lift and skiing down the mountain. However, we were not counting on four days of snowing which presented a handicap going up and down the many series of steps at the cabin and also digging out the car to go anywhere. On the other hand, we laughed exceedingly throughout the days at the amusement of watching many, many cars including the snow grader sliding around and digging out of the curve near the cabin!

We would like to add a comment on a particularly vendor, and that is Fred's General Store whose reception was fantastic.

Perfect place in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were visiting from Alabama, and stayed in the Alpine Ski Loft for three days while we did some hiking around the Beech/Boone/Blue Ridge Parkway area. We are not skiers (for those who are, the loft is literally just a few feet from one of the ski runs) but chose it for its location on the mountain. This place was very comfortable and was exactly what we were looking for. Nice kitchen with plenty of cooking equipment, cozy wood pellet fireplace that kept the living room warm, comfortable bedrooms. The owner was very communicative and helpful, and provided good instructions and lots of detail on every aspect of our trip.

We would certainly stay here again!

We are glad you and your wife enjoyed staying at the Aspen Ski Loft while you were doing some hiking. There are tons of hiking trails in the area, many of which are on Beech Mountain. And the Emerald Outback Trail is within walking distance of the Aspen Ski Loft.
Yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is great for skiers / snowboarders. Just walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start swooshing!
We are glad you liked the newly remodeled kitchen with all new appliances. And the wood pellet fireplace is great! Especially since you can control it with the thermostat on the wall and have a nice warm fire in about 10 minutes, without having to lug in firewood from outside!
Thank you for your kind words about our communication. We realize that when planning for a trip, even a vacation, it can be stressful. So we make sure we give you and all of our guests all the information that is needed.
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and for writing such a great review! You and your wife are welcome to be our guests again at the Aspen Ski Loft!
Sincerely,

Perfect place to stay!!!

  • 5 of 5
The Aspen Ski Loft was the perfect place for my family. We added this portion of our road trip from FL to PA just weeks before our trip. Our goal was to drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway instead of taking the boring I95 route. We stayed at the Aspen Ski Loft from August 7th through the 9th.

I knew very little about NC, but heard it was beautiful. After doing my research on homes to rent, I narrowed it down to the Aspen Ski Loft and a few others. Since I knew very little about the location, I had a ton of questions. While others seemed a little irritated with my questions, Roger was awesome to work with. He sent me tons of information on activities and dining, was very quick to respond to every email, provided great directions (don't trust your GPS), was very accommodating with all of my requests and followed through with everything.

The Aspen Ski Loft was gorgeous, very neat and perfect for our stay. The views were amazing, everything was clean and it comes with everything you need- a fully equipped kitchen, toiletries, phone and TV's in all of the rooms. The kids loved the Asian style tub in the master bathroom and the fact that they had their privacy with the separate bedrooms. We spent one night grilling filets on the outside deck enjoying the magnificent mountain views.

Although we were only there for a few days, we were able to do quite a bit. We dined at one of the local restaurants, hiked Linville Falls along with other falls, panned for gems in Little Switzerland, visited some of the shops in Elk Banner and of course drove the Blue Ridge Parkway which was breathtaking.

Roger and Michelle, thank you very much for helping us make this portion of our vacation terrific. My husband and I are already talking about planning our next trip to the Aspen Ski Loft.

We are glad you liked the Aspen Ski Loft and how it is furnished. Michele and I want to make sure our guests have everything they need to feel at home. And yes, the Asian style soaking tub is really unique! We are glad you enjoyed grilling out on the deck while enjoying the 100-mile views. Yes, they are breathtaking!
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and for writing such a great review, and thank you for being such a great guest. You and your family are welcome to stay again at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain whenever it is available! Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
The Aspen Ski Loft is the perfect rental for a comfortable, hassle free stay in the beautiful NC Mountains! We enjoyed staying at The Aspen Ski Loft so much in October of 2013 we stayed again in June 2014. As a matter of fact, we just returned from our vacation, and I cant say enough great things about Roger. He makes it extremely easy to book your stay and hes always quick to respond to any questions (I added an extra night stay at the last minute during our October stay). You can rest assured Roger will do all he can to make your stay a great experience. The long range views, strong wifi signal, cable tv, and comfortable beds are just a few of the pluses to the Aspen Ski Loft. The deck is a great place to enjoy coffee or a glass of wine. And Beech Mountain is figuratively and literally one of the coolest towns in NC. It is the highest town east of the Mississippi, and the temps never rose above 73 degrees while we were there in June. Such a terrific getaway from the oppressive heat and humidity back at home. The Aspen Ski Loft is also a perfect jump off point for daily adventures. Its near to The Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Boone, and Linville Falls. We even took a day trip down to Asheville NC one day (about a 2 hour drive). Also, dont miss a trip to Famous Louise's Rockhouse Restaurant in Linville Falls for a great meal. Of course, you should schedule one day to do nothing but be lazy and enjoy The Aspen Ski Loft. Lounge on the deck or the swing with your favorite book and just soak in the views. The Aspen Ski Loft really is 'where troubles melt like lemondrops away above the chimney tops'!

Thank you for your positive comments about being responsive to your requests. Michele and I are glad you enjoyed your latest trip to the Aspen Ski Loft, and you can see why we love it so much. There are so many fun things to see and do. And you mentioned one of our favorite things to do... sitting on the deck or in the living room enjoying the 100-mile views! Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! You are welcome to be our guest again at the Aspen Ski Loft whenever it is available. Great place to get snowed in.

  • 4 of 5
We arrived at the ski loft just in time for the huge snowstorm in February. The skiing was fantastic and the huge floor to ceiling windows gave a great view of the snow, the slope, and, eventually when the storm passed, the mountains. The loft was clean and well kept. The downstairs was a little chilly. We had a little trouble lighting the stove and Roger was immediately available to help us figure it out. We would definitely return and plan to.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank you for writing such a great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
We are glad you got to experience some of the massive snowstorms that hit Beech Mountain. Michele and I have been snowed in there ourselves! That makes for great skiing and boarding, and beautiful views from the huge windows in the living room, dining room, kitchen area. Yes it is awesome how the weather can close in on the views, and then when it clears, you can really appreciate the 100-mile views from the Aspen Ski Loft. Yes, the downstairs can get a little chilly, since the heat rises up through the circular stairway. We are glad you liked the wood pellet fireplace, which really keeps it warm in the Aspen Ski Loft. There are some automatic shut-off features built in to the wood pellet fireplace, which causes it to shut-of if there is too much ash build up. We are glad that you were able to get it going again after cleaning it.
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and for writing a great review. Michele and I are looking forward to you and your family returning again to the Aspen Ski Loft. Just let me know when you are ready to make your next reservation. Sincerely,
- Roger

The Aspen Ski Loft has electronic keypad door locks which do not require a key. It is not necessary for guests to stop by the property manager's office to pick up a key, guests do not have to worry about losing the key during their stay, and guests do not need to return the key to the property manager's office. Guests are assigned an easy to remember 4 digit code that is valid for the duration of their stay. The code expires at departure time, so guests have added security because previous guest's codes are no longer valid. The Aspen Ski Loft Wi-Fi network is password protected for the security of our guests. Instructions provided prior to arrival.
