We decided to leave the Paris region where we were living until 2005 and move to this very quiet and secluded area, simply because we wanted a change in life. It was a great place to raise our 3 children, who went to the small local school in Venasque (only 60 pupils).

We lived there for 4 years, until for professional reasons we had to go back to Paris again. However there was no question of selling the property, so we still return there very regularly for weekends and holidays (only 2:45H by high speed TGV train from Paris)

Peter and Sandrine Blanken purchased this estate in 2005

As soon as we visited the property for the first time, we fell in love with it, because the surrounding area is so quiet and beautiful and we love being close to nature. We also wanted to start a Bed and Breakfast and the house had previously been set up to accommodate this. There are 4,5 hectares of land (mainly oak wood and cherry groves) surrounding the house and the large 12x6m pool were just great.

If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet place, surrounded by nature, then this would be the kind of place you would want to stay. What most guests do, is visit places and see the sights in the morning and swim/ doze/ read/ swim again/ doze a little more, in the afternoon.

Aperitif (rosé or Pastis) around 6:00pm on the terrace, with the late afternoon sun slowly setting over the hills to the East.

Venasque
Car: necessary

Venasque is located in the heart of rural Provence, with easy access to numerous small villages like Gordes and Roussillon and the cities of Carpentras, Avignon and Orange. Our home is central to many outdoor activities and recreation; with hiking and walking trails, biking and rock climbing, kayaking, horseback riding, markets, restaurants, theatre & arts, museums & sightseeing, swimming and golfing.

We are within 65 miles of the Mediterranean Sea, and equally close to the Southern Alps. The Luberon Valley with Roussillon, Gordes, Haut Vaucluse, Mont Ventoux, Les Dentelles de Montmirail, Les Gorges de la Nesque and some of the most beautiful sites in Provence (Abbaye de Sénanque, Orange, Avignon..) are close at hand. We have a file full of ideas and activities for you to explore, discover and enjoy.

Siteseeing: Avignon and the Palais des Papes, Senanque Abbey, the lavender fields around Sault, the Ocre in Roussillon, the Roman ruins of Vaison la Romaine. The ancient sites of Nimes and the Pont du Gard are about one hours' drive away.

Other Activities: kayak, antiques, typical provençal markets and of course wine tasting - Côtes du Rhone and the famous Chateauneuf du Pape wineries are close by.

In winter, skiing is possible on the Mont Ventoux (around 1600m elevation). It's a small resort with around 10-15 slopes, but easy to reach by car in 45 minutes.

When there is no snow, serious cyclists can attempt to climb the Mont Ventoux, which is a tough Tour de France stage.
