I f your are looking for a nice place to stay in N: I f your are looking for a nice place to stay in New York!!!
As others have mentioned, you have to be up for some serious stair climbing for this place--87 steep steps to get to the apartment, no elevator. However, you are rewarded for your efforts with this charming apartment. It is exactly as described and as it appears in the photos.
It's hard to see in the photos, but the bathroom is in the main living area, just to the right of the kitchen. The shower is completely open, the whole bath is tiled, which was unusual but worked ok. It has its own tankless water heater so it's never an issue for hot water. Some other helpful features were the hair dryer, the washer (no dryer), and the house phone for local calls. The wifi worked well throughout our trip.
Thibault's email correspondence can be a bit slow by American standards, but he was right on time meeting us and very helpful with our bags and showing us the features of the apartment.
The neighborhood is busy, and you have to be ready for drunk people yelling on the street at 3 am. It is also just steps to restaurants, and the closest Metro (Hotel de Ville) is about a 5 minute walk. It's not a quiet getaway, but if you want the heart of the Marais you can't do better. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed in Thibault's luminous flat for four months earlier this year (early Feb- late May) and had a great time. It is a beautiful place, tastefully furnished with lots of light. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher, washing machine and small stove. The heating worked well which is essential for a winter visit, in fact it was so effective we had to turn it down!
Climbing the stairs helped counteract the effect of having a wonderful bakery at the end of the street. Because the flat is on the top floor it is bright and there's no noise from the neighbors. The upstairs bedroom is far enough away to escape any street noise. The rooftop view from the bedroom is very charming and quintessentially Parisian, though the open staircase can a little treacherous after a couple of drinks. It's also worth noting that the small bathroom is on the main level while the bedroom is upstairs.
Thibault is trustworthy, friendly and personable . He's a nice guy and when we had problems with ongoing work on the stairwell (all finished now) he was very responsive and reasonable.
The location is idea, you're right in the thick of the trendiest area of Paris. Boutiques, restaurants, bars and cafes line the streets. There are a number of good museums close by including the Carnavalet (History of Paris Museum) and the Pompidou. I loved the Haute Couture show at the Hotel du Ville which often hosts free exhibits and is only a few minutes walk from the apartment. The Seine, the Isle St Louis and the Notre Dame are not far and I often walked along the river to the Louvre .
There's a market on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning on the square at the end of the block. It's a short walk to the Place du Voges and the Richard Lenoir market which is one of the best in Paris.
We loved the flat which is well designed, well located and comfortable. As you can tell we recommend it highly. On a practical note the wifi worked flawlessly and we were pleased to discover we could make calls to landlines in the US and UK for free from the apartment phone.
The only thing to add is that we're looking forward to our next visit!
We really enjoyed our stay in this easy going, charming and well located apartment. The Marais is a most to be seen "quartier de Paris" which makes this location even greater.
Yes we have to go up a long winding staircase but who doesn't in Paris? With a lot of windows and a comfortable bed, this apartment is in walking distance to many other sightseeing places of Paris.
If walking is not your thing, the Metro station is close by as well as one of the eight "batobus" station, a metro boat ride that takes you to different locations on "la Seine". I recommend this place.
This apartment worked really well for us: bright, airy, and very centrally located. Thibault followed through on everything promised, although sometimes email replies were delayed by a few days. Prepare yourselves for five flights of winding stairs (plus the narrow stairs without rails to the bedroom loft). That said, we were delighted with the place. Highly recommend!
We have been home from Paris for only one week and want to return to this beautiful nest in the Marais.
The apartment is perfect, the pictures show it as it really is and it's extremely well fitted out. It is up five staircases, a great balance for the wonderful food you will eat in Paris (and well worth the rooftop view when you get to the top).
We found everything we needed for our stay plus more. Thibault gave us a very warm welcome, sprinted up the stairs with our heavy luggage and was available for all enquiries we had throughout our visit.
We arrived when the days were warm and after a cold snap one day we were so happy that the heaters switched themselves on to warm up the apartment for our return home. The bed linen is like a hotel, gorgeous Carre Blanc cotton. So beautiful to sleep in that we found the shop and bought the same for our home.
The bathroom is very narrow (though who wants to spend much time there anyway). There are instructions for all the appliances except the washing machine so make sure you know how it works. There is a hairdryer so don't bring one.
The area is fantastic, so many boutiques and great places to eat nearby. We loved Au Bourgiugnon du Marais most of all, it's a 5 minute walk and Michelin rated. There is a good supermarket across the road, two great boulangeries within a minutes walk and a fantastic local market at the end of the street on Saturday - stock up there if you can with food and flowers.
We would return tomorrow if we could.
This apartment is exactly what we had in mind when we decided to spend a month in Paris. The neighborhood is exciting and full of great bars and restaurants, but it's also got old-world charm with its small streets and beautiful old buildings. The apartment itself is comfortable and practically brand new. The best part is the view out of the bedroom window of the rooftops and the chimneys - so romantic.
Very comfortable bed too, which I think is a King size.
You do have a lot of stairs to walk up, but you get used to that, and the bathroom-shower combo is really small by American standards.
But I would recommend this place to anyone. I hope the next time we come to Paris it's available, because I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
