Welcome to Moonlight Lake, the High Sierra & Yosemite's premiere vacation home rental!
Moonlight Lake is the premier vacation home in the High Sierra & Yosemite area! It boasts 33 acres of private land with a 4000 square feet home perch atop a hill overlooking the private lake. Lago de la Luna has been the host for many events such as summer vacations, family reunions, and its share of weddings and receptions.
The best feature of property is the private lake. Come and enjoy your own fishing hole that is privately held by the owner of Moonlight Lake. Only the owners and their guests are allowed access to this water which means you could be the only one fishing this majestic water. The best catch so far has been a 19' BASS from a friend in Argentina, who is going to beat this record?
There are so many activities you can do without having to leave the premises! From swimming (in the pool or in the lake??), fishing, hiking, riding, or playing horseshoes there are so many things for everyone to enjoy while having the privacy for your own party!!
Moonlight Lake (ML) is a split tri-level home that is approximately 4000 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 3 baths. It posseses amenities such as a large media room, two levels of outdoor decking, a large dining room table, custom-built fireplace, volleyball pool, jetted hot tub, horseshoe pit, and views of the water from every single room. The master bedroom is tucked downstairs with an access to the lower and larger deck. The master bath has a great jetted spa tub that overlooks the lake. The media room is equipped with the latest gear such as a 55' 1080p LED TV, Blu-Ray DVD Player, and High-Def satellite for the ultimate viewing pleasure. There are two levels of decking in the back of the home that has hosted wedding ceremonies for those interested in intimate settings. Moonlight Lake is definitely about family and fun especially with the pool and hot tub conveniently located next to the house.
ML is a great piece of property in the center of all the action in the mountains! It is only 5 minutes away from Bass Lake and 10 minutes from the center of Oakhurst. The property is conveniently located 30 minutes away from the South Entrance of Yosemite National Park!

I am an investor in the Yosemite area and have several unique water properties in the Oakhurst area. Please let me know if you have any questions about my homes or the area itself.
I couldn't resist when this property became available in the market! This home has only had 2 previous owners; the first owned it for 30+ years until they sold to buyers in 2004 that eventually lost the home due to the housing bubble! We're here to pick up the pieces and bring this home back to the market for people to enjoy and make their own memories!
What a great getaway from everyone but still the convenience of being in town! Private 50 acres conveniently located just 10 minutes from the nearest grocery store! There are so many great things to share with this home; but I think the best feature of this home is the backyard! It's rare to have your own fishing hole; the water is private to the property therefore no one can fish without the owner's consent.
This property looks beautiful in the picture and it is situated at a beautiful place. We had some nice pictures there. Three things I want to point out: (1) the fishing or boat dock seems to be broken and it is slanted downward towards the water and is quite dangerous if not careful in the morning when there is frost. My husband went early morning around 9 am (December 25) to take some picture of the backyard scenery and slipped. He nearly fell into the pond if it were not for the chairs that was bolted onto the dock. Both of his elbows had the top layer skin scraped off. The dock really needs to be fixed to what it looks like in the advertisement pictures. (2) After the stay, we asked for our deposit refunds but still haven't receive a response unlike when we were trying to book. This is poor customer service. (3) The main floor sink cold water was broken and didn't get fixed while we were there. The hot water runs out after a few showers. If someone else uses the water, let say to wash dishes, while you are in the shower, the cold water rushes out for you in the shower. We try our best to work around these issues and overall, we enjoyed our stay.
The is one of the best holiday home I have ever visited. Good place very spacious and very quite atmosphere. But the customer service we got just spoiled all our mood. Specially the our contact person EJ who was not at all cooperative. Since the day we book the property we have to follow him up for everything.
We specifically ask if they have pool table and out door grill are there or not he said pool table is fine and they will be providing one full gas cylinder for grill. but the pool table was dirty and not operational. The propane cylinder they provide ran out of gas in 10-15 mins so we had to throw all our marinated stuffs . Also we saw some complained about the swimming pool in previous comments so asked if it is in good condition but which he said yes but heated pool was not working.
We called that guy after reaching there to inform about these stuffs along with some minor problems like cold water was not coming in one bath room but that guy never returned our call. I agree a house can;t be perfect but you guys should show little professional courtesy to return a customer call and guys please don't lie to customer saying it has been taken care off.
Overall, we had a great time! We were there Sat to Sat with 10 adults and 7 kids under the age of 8.
Biggest plus – totally secluded, private pool, private lake, lots of space, only 30 min. from entrance to Yosemite
Biggest gripe – pool isn’t heated, check out time is super early (10am)
More details on each of the rooms and amenities:
- Dining area - loved the super long table that fit every single one of us!
- Kitchen – had most amenities we needed. Stocked with more than enough plates and silverware for meals. Wasn’t sure if fridge freezer was working properly – ice cream was a little melty.
- Pool/Hot Tub – The pool does NOT come heated. Said it came with a solar panel to keep it warm… I’m not sure if the big blue tarp was their version of a “solar panel”, but it didn’t keep it warm. Was lukewarm which meant you shivered the moment you got in, but got used to it. The hot tub worked fine and was toasty.
- The Lake – Nice size lake with lots of little fish, but this is NOT A LAKE FOR SWIMMING. I don’t know anyone in their right mind who would jump in that lake. It’s full of algae. With that aside, the lake itself was great for paddle boating and fun fishing.
- Media Room – Plenty of seating and far enough from the Living Room that we didn’t have to hear the kids scream and bicker. TV is large enough. The cushion was plenty (movable sofa set) but it definitely showed LOTS of wear. Looks like a dog chewed through the corners of several of the moveable pieces.
- Living Room – Cute with the three big circular couches and one long couch. It has a TV so you can watch movies and huge panoramic windows behind to always keep the sun and view.
- Master downstairs – nice enough. No complaints.
- Single bedroom downstairs – fair. There were holes in the wall which probably should be fixed. No closets or storage space in this room though. Smallest of rooms.
- King room main floor w/crib – Quite large actually. Came with a little crib.
- King room main floor – smaller than the one w/crib, but it was fine.
- Bunk room – There were two twin over full beds in the room, large enough for a family or just a bunch of kids. No closets.
- Master over the pool area – Awesome! Newest room w/AC & wood floors.
Overall, yes the place has lots of cobwebs, a few holes and imperfections, and some screens are broken in areas. Did it detract from our vacation? No. Should they be fixed? Yes. Would I go again? Likely (assuming enough people to split the cost). :)
This gorgeous house was a budget stretch for my family group of 11, but we splurged on the promise of a fully equipped home loaded with its own lake. Our pleasure was marred by the disarray – heavy leaf litter on the grounds and in the pool and spiderwebs on the windows, doors, beams and outdoor furniture. A blue plastic tarp was heaped next to the pool. There was no net or scoop to clean the pool. The photos show a clear lake, but during our July visit much of the water was covered with algae. The listing suggests lake swimming, but my daughter emerged from a dip coated in mud. The listing promises a horseshoe pit, which we couldn't find. The pool table’s coin operation mechanism had been disabled. But after each game it required that the entire table be tilted to retrieve the balls. A dart board was stocked with broken darts. The outdoor fridge was unplugged, the two grills empty of gas (discovered that just as we were starting to grill). The pretty outdoor deck lights were broken.
Still, we were on vacation and willing to overlook a few inconveniences.
Unfortunately the unpleasant surprises continued. Fingerprints were smeared across the sliding glass doors that led to the deck. Two sinks in the four bathrooms lacked soap. There were no towels in evidence. A search of the many rooms, cabinets and drawers turned up some towels tucked in a corner laundry room cabinet.. The king bed in the master suite had two standard pillows and one thin blanket. A third pillow in the closet lacked a case. The linens in the other bedrooms were equally stingy. The kitchen had one roll of paper towels but no dish towels, dish cloths, table linens or placemats. When we went to make coffee the only machine on site was a Keurig, requiring the special single-cup packets, not provided. Shortly after our arrival the owner showed up. We expressed our dismay at the shortcomings. His explanation was that since we were a last-minute booking he hadn’t been able to use his regular cleaning service. Someone arrived on the second day of our visit to blow out the leaves, clean the pool and provide a coffee maker (which, we discovered the following morning, was broken). The smudges were still on the sliding doors and the darts still broken. On day 3 the hot tub broke (it was later fixed). My husband and I went out in the paddle boat but the canopy was broken.
Beautiful house, wonderful setting. Disappointing in its its neglect. It could be great if someone took care of the details.
Pictures of this place are accurate! We stayed here with a bunch of our couple friends and their kids and had a blast! It's ideal for families with young kids as it has a pool and hot tub. There is also an amazing covered outdoor kitchen and game space next to the pool. We went to Yosemite twice but really enjoyed the days we just stayed at the house. The kitchen table is perfect for sharing dinners as a large group. It has all the amenities such as internet, satellite TV, washer/dryer, and any cooking supply you could need. The ONLY negative I would comment on was that the outdoor space was quite a mess when we got there...spider webs and leaves everywhere...for the price I would have expected the outdoor space to be cleaner. Also be aware that only a limited amount of toilet paper and paper towels is provided so bring extra. Would definitely stay here again!!
We spent a week at Lago de la Luna and had a wonderful time. The home was comfortable, spacious, well equipped, and had a fantastic view of the private lake. We enjoyed wonderful hikes within a short drive and fun bike rides in the surrounding neighborhood and forest service roads nearby. The view of the lake and mountains was spectacular from the deck and it had a good get-away feel, yet the home was only a few minutes from the stores in town. A great blend of outdoor, country enjoyment, and in-town convenience. The owner was a gracious host and we felt welcomed. We plan to return.
