Are you the kind of person who just feels better when you can look at the water? The kind of person who feels calm just thinking about the soft waves slapping the sand, and the distant sound of seagulls?
Don’t just think about a great beach getaway—live it. And live it in the comfortable elegance of a fully restored Victorian in one of Galveston’s oldest neighborhoods.
The Gulf Lady in Galveston is located just 1 block from the beach—you can see the sparkling Gulf from the home’s upstairs porches. Just as lovely is the view of the spectacular Galvez Hotel, located just two blocks away. Walk to the hotel’s famous brunch, or schedule some alone time in their newly opened spa.
Despite its great location, there are lots of reasons to never leave the house. The Gulf Lady is a turn-of-the-century charmer with lots of period details. Pocket doors, hardwood floors, clawfoot tubs, and gorgeous stained glass are just some of the surprises you’ll find in this lovely home. The welcoming entranceway is painted in the same shade as the Galvez’s lobby area—a wonderful nod to the home’s close proximity.
But this house isn’t stuck in the past by any means. You’ll love the modern updates—including a chef’s kitchen, central air conditioning, free wifi, and cable televisions. You’ll feel comfortable whether you’re relaxing in the family room, visiting on one of the home’s multiple porches, or lounging in front of the luxurious pool.
The house sleeps 8, with three bedrooms upstairs and a queen-sized flexsteel sofa bed in the living room (there is a full bathroom downstairs for any guests with mobility issues). In addition, we provide a pack-and-play for our younger guests.
We are pet- and smoke-free, to accommodate our guests with allergies.

We had a wonderful time in your house. It was very spacious. The pool was very nice and peaceful. We had a nice time in Galveston.
My friends and I just left this house after staying for Mardi Gras, and after seeing the last review, I felt compelled to write. I'm not sure what that reviewer was talking about. The house is nice, as is the pool. It is true, it is an older home, and it is not decked out with flat screen televisions or the latest IKEA furniture (thank goodness, btw). But it is charming, as is the neighborhood--and it was very reasonably priced!! (We had 8 people in total, and thought it was a huge value--especially during Mardi Gras). It has a very nice kitchen, which was perfect for us--we could eat in when we wanted to, and go out when it suited us. The location absolutely CAN NOT BE BEAT. You can see the Gulf from the deck--and it's on the same street as the beautiful Galvez. It's also right across from the Pleasure Pier--it would be perfect for families with kids. (In fact, several of us are planning to come back in July!!) We did have to call the owner as we had problems with the keybox (totally our fault--we forgot to bring the combination with us. The owner actually uses our address as the combo--but we didn't remember that!) She was charming too, and has lived in Galveston for decades. She's a spitfire--and she knows all the best restaurants in town, as well as a couple to avoid. We can only assume the last reviewer does not like people, the beach, or vacations in general--because we had a great time, and are definitely planning to come back!!
My husband and I spent the weekend with 2 other couples and had a fantastic time. The house is convenient to the beach and the Pleasure Pier. We sat on the 2nd story deck every night looking out to the Gulf and enjoying the breezes. And the kids loved the pool! The only problem we had was getting them out of the water so we could go and do something else! We will definitely be back!!!
The house is not completely as avertised. To begin with, the neighborhood is not the best. Eventhough it is very close to the beach, the area is less than desirable. Thugs and other undesirables are constantly walking around the area. The police responded to several houses next door multiple times during our stay. Just because alot of houses in the area are old, that doesn't make it a "historical neighborhood". The house its self isn't exactly what the pictures portray. The house needs some major interior and exterior work done to it. The upstairs master bedroom is very hot. There are huge gaps in the windows that let all of the A/C out. It rained one night and rain water poured inside. The house also needs some updating (applicances, tv's, decor). The handyman lives across the street, and I would say he is less than handy. He would come over every morning and sorta skim the pool. He was supposed to set the trash out on the curb, but didn't. So if you don't mind a stranger in the back yard every now and again (unannounced as well). The owner actually lives in the house and stays at another house in Galveston while it is rented (this is what the handy man told me). So, the house is full of her personal belongings, papers, and family pictures everywhere. I really don't want to see someone else's personal stuff while at a rental. I called the owner concerning an issue we had with the house, and she was very rude and told me to call the handy man. But her number was the one provided by the property manager. There are sticky notes attached to everything in the house, and one happens to have the handy man's telephone number. She also called me and said "she happened to drive by" and asked us to do this and that. After that, we felt like she was checking up on us and made us feel very uncomfortable. We also had an issue with ants in the master bedroom. We had to go buy bug spray and spray the house down (ants are all around the pool area too). The pool cleaner was supposed to come once a week, but he never showed up either. The owner makes you wash, dry and put up all of the towels before you leave. She asks that you wash the bed sheets too, but not mandatory. I thought that is what cleaning services do. All in all - after our stay, I feel as if we over paid by double of what the house should rent for. The only positives are the close proximity to the beach and the backyard pool.
I have an annual girls trip and this year we chose Galveston. We stayed at Gulf View Victorian with Private Pool house. I love the house, but I am a sucker for Victorian style homes. The house and the pool were excelent. The accomodations were just as if we were home. The area is very quiet and close to the sea wall and to Pleasure Pier. I would recomend this for a girls getaway or even a family .
