|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Located equidistant from St Andrews and Saint John New Brunswick, this waterfront home overlooks the Bay of Fundy and is close to many of the numerous, picturesque fishing villages that the New Brunswick coast is known for. Perched high above the beach, this magnificently situated home consists of a master en suite with queen bed and two guest bedrooms that share a bathroom with double sinks and a private sitting area. Additional features include a fully equipped, modern kitchen, a large open living/dining area with hardwood floors and two large decks with panoramic views of the bay, fishing weirs and the rugged New Brunswick coast.
With a cup of your favorite morning beverage, enjoy the sound of the surf while watching the sunrise from the Master Bedroom deck. Read the summer novel du jour on the private, sandy beach as the sun warms your face. Bird watching, hiking, kayaking, biking or just relaxing will make this a memorable experience.
Enjoy shopping and the remarkable restaurants in St. Andrews. Drive your car across the sandbar to visit historic Ministers Island. If you wish to stay closer to home, nearby Pennfield a local blueberry stand makes fabulous treats to tempt you. You may be surprised to find a scrumptious salmon pate and other delicacies to enjoy at Stuart's Supperette just a bit further down the road. After a delicious meal on the deck and a short walk, you can experience a spectacular sunset at New River Beach Provincial Park.
What a wonderful week with great friends! So much to do. Whale watch tour in Saint Andrews, reversing falls in Saint John, Hopewell Rocks, and Fundy Trail. Great place to really enjoy the Bay of Fundy. Loved coming back to our house each day. It is roomy, wonderfully clean, and a great kitchen to celebrate with an awesome seafood feast House sits up on a hill with great view of the bay, with steps down to a large, rocky beach. Our first day there we picked up a dinner of fresh mussels at low tide.
You HAVE to have a car here, there is nothing within walking distance, at least in September when the nearby New River Beach park is closed.
We are 3 couples who do a lot of traveling and usually rent thru VRBO. We were all very pleased when we walked into the house. It was one of the few houses we have rented that actually was nicer than the photos.
A couple of (small) criticisms: the house could use an instruction sheet (we had to blunder upon the wifi, could not get tvs to work properly) there is a minimum of washcloths, the shower in the master bathroom is tiny despite the bathroom being very large and it is a fairly long drive to get to all the amazing things to see here (but it is centrally located to the things mentioned earlier)
None of that is to say we would not hesitate to rent this house again in the future.
Be sure to visit McKay's on 175 for incredible wild blueberry pies, and if you are looking for fine dining try the Rossmount Inn near St. Andrews. It is a long drive to Hopewell Rocks, but worth it.
We loved the view. Enjoyed the weather! And had many days on the beach. We had such a relaxing time. The home meet our expectations. Great place to go to with children. We had all the comforts of home. Kids loved picking the wild strawberries. As for me I wish I was there during blueberry season!!!The location was great for us, not to long of a drive to Saint John to visit family. Thanks Doug and Shawnwee for sharing your getaway home with us!
We loved our stay. Our first day was cloudy and cold, but we headed out to explore St.John and had a great time. The weather the next two days was beautiful and we loved being on the beach. The little restaurant down the road is wonderful, as are the Greek owners. Perfect time! We would love to go back!
Beautiful, this was by far the best vacation property we could of asked for. Clean, new and close to various ammenities. The pictures don't even do justice to how beautiful and clean this home is. Shawnee was always available to answer our questions and even called to make sure we were okay and that everything was alright. Comeaus was the best fried fish restaurant we have ever been too and it was just 10-15 minutes ride away we enjoyed visiting beautiful st George and deer island and we're only 15-30 minutes away from many other cities. We called this home "our not so little red house in the middle of nowhere surrounded by everything". The Messners
We travel a lot as a family, and we prefer to rent spacious homes rather than rent crowded hotel rooms whenever possible. And, with probably 50 vacation home rentals under our belts, Shawnee’s “red house at New River Beach” ranks at the top of our list of nice accommodations. The Red House has all that we look for in a vacation rental: Easy to work with host, quiet and comfortable, a safe location, and a great value for our vacation dollar.
From the very start, Shawnee was easy to work with. She always replied quickly to our emails and questions, and she managed the financial part well.
The Red House was easy to find, is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac, and it had great curb appeal. We loved that the home was centrally located between St. Stephen and St. John and St. Andrews by the Sea; no more that 30 to 45 min from the 3 towns. The area is very quiet at night. About the only sounds your hear at night are waves of the Bay of Fundy gently lapping at the shore down the trail from the house.
Upon entering the house, we saw that it was a very clean, inviting space. I liked that it was decorated with some antiques and “real furniture” rather that “Ikea”. The home felt like a “home” rather than a grand version of a hotel room. Whether we were watching TV or looking at the EXTRORDINARY VIEW OF THE BAY OF FUNDY out the large living room windows, we enjoyed the comfort and size of the sofas and living space. The bedrooms were equally comfortable and spacious with great beds. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils, spices, coffee makers……….that a decent cook would need in their own home.
Exiting through the slider in the kitchen and heading down a well-marked trail and steps, it took less than two minutes to reach what ended up being our own clean, “private beach” where we could have family time, explore, collect shells, etc.
In summary, we highly recommend Shawnee’s “Red House”.
This home is warm and inviting and the views are simply incredible. Our family had one of the best vacations staying here. It worked as a wonderful home base for traveling during the day, seeing the sights and then coming home to a lovely, spacious kitchen for cooking dinner. (The ESSO station, 10 minutes away, has delicious homemade sausage. What a find!)
We spent one day just relaxing, walking the beach, and reading. There are two porches where you can sit, drink coffee, and see the waves.
The master bedroom is roomy, the bed was super comfy, and the bathroom was spacious and super clean. (In fact, everything was super clean.) Our teenage son loved having his own mini-apartment on the lower level.
We can't say enough about how wonderful this rental is. Shawnee, the owner, is lovely to deal with and very responsive to any questions we may have had. We were sad to leave and are already talking about staying there again next summer.
