RIVER HOUSE -- NORTH UMPQUA RIVER - PRIVATE VIEW, ACCESS, FISH

Roseburg House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Soak up the peace and power of the North Umpqua River in all its year-round moods from the comfort of the living room, with no humans in sight and an old-growth forest backdrop. This large custom house is perched on a high wooded riverbank over a pool and rapids with old-growth forest lining the opposite side. Salmon, steelhead, and trout are in the river year-round, and the house front features the rich bright colors of a fresh salmon fillet. Eagles and osprey fly by at eye-level, otters and geese frolic in the river below.

Excellent for a stay-cation right on the river, but also a good home-base for day-trips -- centrally located between Crater Lake National Park and many Pacific Ocean beach parks (1.5 hours to each). Wine country, antique shops, waterfall hikes, Steamboat Inn, and Diamond Lake are within an hours drive. And the 33-mile North Umpqua Wild & Scenic River section begins within 2 miles, and also is the beginning of the 33 miles of world-famous fly fishing water.

See photos for the lay of the land and modern amenities of this spacious, comfortable house and beautiful reach of river.

Keywords: riverfront, cabin, cottage, lodge, bed and breakfast, retreat, parking, private drive, angler's paradise, great wildlife watching, waterfalls and hiking, Wild and Scenic River, close to Crater Lake National Park, winery tours, Pacific Ocean

Guestbook comments from the owner
We arrived at the Riverhouse in early October 2013 on the heels of an epic early rainstorm. The river was up about 2 feet from summer levels, but still green and dropping. The view from the house was a spectacular backdrop as we made our plans for steehead fishing. Rolling spring chinook, river otters, bald eagles, and the real-time view of river levels kept us glued to the windows. On the river the fishing was great as always, but the catching was challenging. We struck out in the fly water - perhaps many fish were headed up to Steamboat Creek, or the drop in water temperatures put them off. Downstream of the Swiftwater area, we were able to catch three steelhead after more effort than usual. Two hatchery fish and one chrome wild hen released to join her cohorts upstream. Three nights in the Riverhouse went by quickly - restful nights of sleep with the river soundtrack, epic meals in the spacious kitchen and off of the new gas barbie. We were sad to leave and hope to return again in the fall for yet another repeat fishing experience.

Awesome vacation

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed a week long vacation and couldn't have asked for more. Was absolutely gorgeous, we had a great time laying out, floating on the river, and going down the rapids. The owner was great and was very nice and more then willing to help if we needed anything. The view was wonderful but being down on the water was just awesome. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation! Thank you so much for having us and we will be back again!

Excellent accommodations, incredible river, congenial host, family = wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5
This is a really great property with river access and river view. Right outside the windows is a wonderful view of the river "pool" and a rapid, as well as the forest across the river. Open your windows (or not) and hear the rush of the river. Wonderful sunny deck with table and chairs. Gazebo for relaxing in the shade. Chiminea for chilly evenings.

The house has been very nicely remodeled with attention to detail and obviously a labor of love by the owner. Well appointed furniture wise, but also supplies. I have stayed at many VRBO's where you were lucky to get a couple rolls of toilet paper to get started with and two trash bags. There's not a lot of shopping nearby so it is generous of the host to leave extras in case you forget things. The kitchen was very well supplied also with plenty of dishes, glasses and pans.

Booking process was easy. Rich was responsive and the VRBO site worked well for payment. We will definitely stay here again when the opportunity arises.

Check out the North Umpqua Outfitters for rafting the river.

Ladies Fun Weekend

  • 5 of 5
The driving directions provided by Rich were very helpful. The house is fabulous. The views, are spectacular. When Rich came by to welcome us, we instantly felt comfortable and safe, which lasted throughout the weekend. He wanted to make sure any questions we had were answered. He told us about hiking trails that ended at waterfalls. Kindling was gatherd and ready for us to use by the outside file. The water and rocks that can be viewed from the porch are awe inspiring. The private trail to the water was easy to climb up and down. AC worked, beds were comfortable, hot water in the shower, a nice size kitchen to do the cooking. Two nights, was not long enough, next time we will rent it for a week and make this a yearly trip.

Splendid

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the River House for a short family fishing adventure. In addition to a memorable fishing experience, the splendid beauty of the place uplifts the soul and the river sounds are relaxing. Rich is a terrific and helpful host. The home is clean, comfortable and well appointed. We hope to stay longer again soon and would recommend this place to others.

Heaven!!!

  • 5 of 5
I cant say enough. This place is perfectly located for the river lover. Direct access to the river below, local hiking trails with waterfalls, Peace and quiet that just heals the soul! I had to sleep with the windows open, to soak up the song of the river. The Fire pit in the back yard was fabulous at night. So much to do and see during the day, and such a beautiful home to stay in. We didn't want to leave, will be back soon and often! My 8 year old caught his first fish here (actually 2!). Perfect getaway for a family vacation, romantic run away, girls retreat, artist retreat, sportsman retreat!!! Guarantee'd, you will want to come back soon!
