Soak up the peace and power of the North Umpqua River in all its year-round moods from the comfort of the living room, with no humans in sight and an old-growth forest backdrop. This large custom house is perched on a high wooded riverbank over a pool and rapids with old-growth forest lining the opposite side. Salmon, steelhead, and trout are in the river year-round, and the house front features the rich bright colors of a fresh salmon fillet. Eagles and osprey fly by at eye-level, otters and geese frolic in the river below.
Excellent for a stay-cation right on the river, but also a good home-base for day-trips -- centrally located between Crater Lake National Park and many Pacific Ocean beach parks (1.5 hours to each). Wine country, antique shops, waterfall hikes, Steamboat Inn, and Diamond Lake are within an hours drive. And the 33-mile North Umpqua Wild & Scenic River section begins within 2 miles, and also is the beginning of the 33 miles of world-famous fly fishing water.
See photos for the lay of the land and modern amenities of this spacious, comfortable house and beautiful reach of river.

We arrived at the Riverhouse in early October 2013 on the heels of an epic early rainstorm. The river was up about 2 feet from summer levels, but still green and dropping. The view from the house was a spectacular backdrop as we made our plans for steehead fishing. Rolling spring chinook, river otters, bald eagles, and the real-time view of river levels kept us glued to the windows. On the river the fishing was great as always, but the catching was challenging. We struck out in the fly water - perhaps many fish were headed up to Steamboat Creek, or the drop in water temperatures put them off. Downstream of the Swiftwater area, we were able to catch three steelhead after more effort than usual. Two hatchery fish and one chrome wild hen released to join her cohorts upstream. Three nights in the Riverhouse went by quickly - restful nights of sleep with the river soundtrack, epic meals in the spacious kitchen and off of the new gas barbie. We were sad to leave and hope to return again in the fall for yet another repeat fishing experience.
I enjoy the peaceful views and wild power of the North Umpqua River and want to share it with other outdoors lovers. I live right next door and will ensure everything is in great shape for your stay.
