'EAGLES NEST' - RUSTIC, ROMANTIC, ROCKY MTN LAKEFRONT RETREAT

Polson Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Experience a spectacular, sweeping view of the Mission Mountains and the sparkling, blue-green water of Flathead Lake from a cabin perched on an untouched rocky slope over the waterfront. Be amazed at the constantly changing moods, colors and beauty of the panoramic view.

Go down to the large dock and go swimming, fish for lake trout or take your boat out for a spin on the huge expanse of the main body of the lake. Or perhaps kayak or canoe over to explore Pirate`s Cove to find hidden treasures (such as driftwood sculptures). Savor your privacy with a glass of wine on a deck like the bow of a ship sailing on an ocean... or rise early to see the magnificent sunrises.

Treasure the exclusivity of 200 ft. lakefront with untouched nature on both sides, while being only 10 miles from Polson. Either go shopping, visit summer festivals, view art exhibitions or enjoy a live play or muscial in Bigfork - only a mere 50 minutes away or just across the lake by boat.

Two bedrooms and 1 bath accomodate 5 persons with firm beds, a queen-size in one room and a double and single in the other. Warm up with a fire in the wood-stove while taking in the panoramic view. Furnishings are early American, cozy and rustic. Take your dog for a wonderful hike up to the ridge for views all the way up to Glacier Natl. Park, across to Wildhorse Island and to the west for incredible sunsets.

Polson is only 20 minutes away by car and offers excellent grocery shopping, plus a 9-hole and 18-hole golf course, boat rentals, rafting possibilities and a cinema.

Keywords: Breathtaking view of the Mission Mtns, secluded, untouched landscape, spectacular sunrises, swimming, fishing and boating paradise on the main body of Flathead Lake, hiking, bird watching, relaxing

I`m a native Missoulian with a European husband and a home in Germany, a passion for traveling, learning languages and mountain climbing.

A love of children, animals, nature and beauty have always made Flathead Lake and the wilderness areas surrounding it very, very special to me.

We have explored every trail in the Mission Mtns. and have seen grizzly bears on the peaks. We also always enjoy the bison on the Natl. Bison Range close by and the wild sheep on Wildhorse Island.

Although we live in Europe, we spent most of the summers while our children were growing up at the lake cabin.

I love the sound of the waves beating against the rocky shoreline when I go to sleep, or drinking a cappucino in the shade of the ancient and enormous ponderosa pine which shades the wrap-around deck from the morning sun. Diving from the dock into the deep, green, cyrstal-clear water for a swim in the full moon-river of summer is unforgettable!

Catherine Young, Be Smart Property Mgmt POLSON, MT 59860 60 purchased this cabin in 1983

I grew up in Montana and acquired the cabin from my parents. Going up to the lake from Missoula was always relaxing and exciting, especially the first glimpse of the Missions after driving up through the valley and over the pass.

Rocky Point ( Matterhorn Point) is not only one of the most beautiful places on the lake, it is also close to Polson, Glacier Natl. Park, Kalispell and Missoula while maintaining a secluded atmosphere.

The view is one of the most breath-taking and untouched on the entire lake. Possibilites to hike are more numerous than on other, more crowded parts of the lake. The deep water prevents 'lake itch' which can occur in shallower water.

There are no geese to dirty up the shoreline, as there is only a rocky slope going straight into the water. Since we are on the main body of the lake it is quieter than on the other side of Rocky Point or other locations where there are so many docks that they are almost joined to each other.

AMAZING

  • 5 of 5
I am hesitant to write a review - we hope to go back next year and don't want to share this place with anyone! The cabin is situated on a perfect secluded piece of the lake. The view was breath-taking, the water was clear and fresh, the cabin was just as a lake cabin should be - user friendly, very homey and easy access to the water. The personal attention we rec'd from the owner as well as the property manager made our stay easy - we left with amazing memories (and some great pictures too)!

EAGLES OR BAT'S NEST

Eagles or Bat's Nest
  • 2 of 5
I agree with many of the comments posted by other visitors, especially the fantastic location and setting of Eagles Nest. Yes, you can tell this is a well loved, family, rustic cabin BUT it needs major upgrading to be worth the high season rate we paid. The bathroom is a room you want to spend as little time as possible in, everything in there needs updating. It may be clean but you surely don't want to look too close. The shower head.....ridiculous, even for a 5'2" person like me. The "master" bedroom did not have shades only sheer curtains and it would have been nice to sleep in a darkened room.
Someone early on mentioned the screen door handle and it was still ready to fall off when we stayed but the door itself fell off with broken wheels that had to be replaced. Jeff did respond and had someone up to the cabin the same morning I called....that was promising and we had the handyman fix a couple of other things that needed attention. Are guests the only ones who see these annoyances? One day I moved a chaise cushion that was in the living room out to the deck and when I unfolded it, there was a bat sleeping in it. Another night, the 4 of us were sitting inside with the doors closed and a bat started flying around the living room. I have been a tent camper for years and never had to deal with bats in my tent. I could go on commenting about this "rough in the jewel" but I will close with this. When I am paying top price during high season, I at least expect there to be POTABLE water available......2 gallons in the fridge with a note that we were responsible for our further water needs was taking it a bit far, especially with the difficulty of getting in and out of your place to resupply without 4 wheel drive. Linda, when you say that renters should do their homework and pay attention to "rustic" descriptions, I think you should find out how to be an inn keeper/owner and offer better customer service. Also, the directions are terrible and had it not been for a neighbor out walking we would have been lost. The sign with the Langes is almost unreadable.

Owner's Response: Oh, oh, who let the bats fly in?
The cabin is thoroughly cleaned and inspected before each new guest arrives. If the screen door was broken, someone had walked through. GUESS WHO! Without screen door the glass door must be closed after darkness, otherwise bats and insects fly in. The property manager got it fixed next day (at our expense).
Masterbedroom windows need no sheer curtains as they face the forested slope. In July and August you want crossventilation !
The bathroom shower will be modernised 2014.
2 gal of drinking water are just to get guests started. All other provisions they must buy for themselves.
I, the owner, am no innkeeper and - living in Europe - can´t provide services. That is why we have a good, professional manager who can immediately take care of guest´s requests and complaints.
Every guest gets a detailed map with precise instructions how to drive to our property. All other guests found it.
Our rental rate is not a "Top Price". More modern equipped, new houses cost much more and you hardly get this "fantastic location and setting" on one of the few uncrowded shorelines of the open Flathead Lake.

A LOVELY PLACE!

  • 4 of 5
Pluses are many, minuses are few.

Pluses: the view. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked with equipment. Books, magazines, brochures, information a-plenty for things to do locally. Local hiking opportunities. The sounds of the lake going woosh woosh as you slept. The view. Plenty of towels, linen, housekeeping items and misc. supplies. Appliances and fixtures in working order. The canoe. The view. Did I mention the view?

Minuses: showerhead waaayyy too low (like child sized). Road conditions a bit harsh, but we had a jeep so no big deal. Tricky getting the canoe down to the dock, even with two people. No AC, which didn't bother us at all, but might bother others. Ditto laundry facilities.

As for the bug and smell thing mentioned by a previous reviewer, were they high on crack? Cabin was perfectly clean except for the occasional cobweb, it smelled like a normal home in a forest on a lake, and we have seen more bugs in our suburban Chicago home then we did here. Forests have bugs; get over it.

Owner's Response: A well balanced review.
Yes, the shower head is quite low. I scratched my head on it. The whole shower system will be modernised for the 2014 season.
There is a good laundrymat in Polson next to Super 1 Foods.
We threw out the washing machine in order not to overload the ground with detergent waste-water.
50 yards of unpaved road just before the last (hairpin)curve at the brown cabin are indeed somewhat rough. We always managed it with a normal passenger car by driving down these 50 yds. and through the curve very slowly.
But then you are in an unspoiled piece of shoreline wilderness.
Yes, and the view!

GREAT LOCATION

  • 3 of 5
My family and I really enjoyed the location of the cottage. We have a boat and this was perfectly set up for a family who enjoys the water, such as us. The cottage itself was clean and smelled fresh right away. It was a through back to 80's for sure. The inside could really use some serious upgrading. The sewer smell went up and down. Overall we had a great stay, but for the expense, this cottage needs to be upgraded inside. We enjoyed boating into Polson, the fireworks, the food and the people.

Owner's Response: Yes,
the cabin was furnished by my parents in the 80´s.
Our own taste may be different but it fits well into this forest and lakeshore environment, better than some of the new "mansions".
Sewer smell was a short, temporary problem after a drain pipe on the hill got plugged. It was immediately fixed during the 2013 season.
We ourselves love dogs and are pet-friendly. And it is right, children will love a vacation right on the lake, as ours did for many years.

RUSTIC RELAXATION OUTSIDE POLSON FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD

  • 4 of 5
The view of the lake and the out-of-the-way situation are the selling points for this spot. It's a rustic cabin with hot and cold running water and a flush lou so it meets ones needs and we were comfortable and content finding the amenities very suitable. You can see it's been in a family for years so is a much-loved and used vacation home and this is part of the appeal. It was lovely to be on the water with easy access and we so enjoyed being allowed to have our pet with us. If you don't like bugs and bats and creepy crawlies, this is not the place for you!! The drive-way isn't quite good enough for a low-slung car but we were in a 4 x 4 and it was okay:-) All-in-all, we would recommend 'Eagles Nest'.

Owner's Response: A cabin in the forest on an unspoiled piece of shoreline of the open
Flathead Lake, not in an overcrowded bay area with dock to dock.
Yes, there are bats in a forest environment and bugs earlier in the season (fewer in the dry and hot later season).
So one has to have both screen doors shut at all times and particularly after sunset. I know that may be difficult especially with children.
As to "crawlers" during the earlier part of the season in the last two years some parts of Flathead Lake, especially the Rocky Point area had an abundance of "millipedes". These little rolled up crawlers are totally harmless, they don´t sting and don´t transmit any problems, they are merely a nuisance bug.
Our property manager has employed the services of a professional pest controller. So we are sure to have done everything possible to keep these little creepers outside.
50 yards of the unpaved road just before the (hairpin)curve at the brown cabin are indeed somewhat rough. We always managed it with a normal passenger car by driving down these 50 yds and through the curve very carefully.
But then you arrive in an unspoiled piece of shoreline wilderness.

RENTER BEWARE ......

  • 1 of 5
Upon arrival, and finding a facility that only had superficial likenesses of the website pictures, we called Jeff at Glacier Properties and left message that we were shocked and totally disappointed, and that we desired that he find us another rental for the week. After a bit, we received a voicemail that had no urgency or real concern for our arrival/findings/dissatisfaction; there was certainly no professional attention to our needs. So, we then attempted to make the best of it. We never did see anyone from Glacier Properties.

This place is a dump with panoramic views! Doors do not operate properly, with deck screen handle literally following off. The odor of must and ammonia/urine was overwhelming; could not even be inside without all windows and doors open to dilute the stench. We had to crate our pets while inside to keep them from tracking the previous animal residue. Stove top was disgusting, and we were afraid to use it. BBQ grille was literally packed with burned grease and required our cleaning prior to usage. Bedrooms were disgusting, and my wife would not even use a bed---slept on couch covered with our own blanket. Carpets were dirty and we had to vacuum just to compromise on conditions. If you want to fish, no need to buy bait as you can use the worms and critters crawling on the floor. Now being told it will take days, maybe longer, to get our security deposit back, when we left the dump better than we found it!

Our first visit to Montana will be our last.

Owner's Response: Owners and property managers beware!
of annoyed tenants who write malicious reviews.
What really upset this tenant was the cold and rainy weather not unusual 3rd week of May.Obviously he had not informed himself about this before renting early in spring.Neither had he thoroughly read the VRO ad which offers a rustic forest lake-shore cabin.
He called us day after arrival and left a message that he had been deceived but did not mention specific problems. He wanted to leave and get his rent back.To this we could not agree. We tried to contact him that day several times both on his cell and the cabin´s phone. We left messages asked for specifics offered our help but he did not call back.Instead he sent a textmessage saying"they would now go hiking shopping fishing and that they would make the best out of a bad situation".Weatherwise he was correct, his allegations are mostly wrong!
The carpets are not new but were and are clean. A pestcontroller had made 3 applications.3 days before arrival we thoroughly cleaned vacuumed mopped and aired the cabin and put fresh linen on all beds. There was no bad odor nor any worms or critter. So there can´t be a deception and this tenant was not misled by property manager or owner
After he left we inspected the property together with a third person as witness. There was no urine smell nor life critters.Yes 3 minor items are correct. We forgot to clean the BBQ the stove drip-pans should have been replaced and the screendoor handle was broken. All this we could have fixed if he had informed us correctly instead of raising unsubstantiated claims. To call this lovely cabin a"dump"and to claim we did not immediately reply his call and offer professional attention is simply not true! Jeff
We wonder where this anonymous writer scared up these false accusations. It must have been because our property manager would not refund his rent without valid reasons.
Our "guest" was the first this spring.Since our lake-shore cabin is in a forest with deer grazing,an occasional racoon or skunk, these animals probably felt the place belonged to them and not to the tenant´s dogs after the long winter.Later they withdraw.
We suggest this person does his climate and vacation rental homework the next time "he never visits Montana again".
If you have any questions please send us or the property manager an email. Linda (owner)
