Best Ocean View Plus a River Runs Through it: The Winchuck

Our family spent a glorious week at this beautiful property, where the home, views, and facilities were everything we imagined, and more! Located on 40 acres, the stunning home seemed brand new and superbly equipped with everything we needed. We loved the huge picture windows in the living area and the stunning kitchen view windows too. The views were outstanding no matter which direction we looked, although a favorite was looking across the valley to the ocean. Just beautiful! Other highlights included exploring the property (including the Winchuk River) and watching the majestic herd of elk right near the house on two evenings.
The property has excellent proximity to many outings. We explored the beautiful southern Oregon coast just as far as Port Orford, hiking portions of the Oregon Coast Trail as well as walking along deserted mist swept beaches; explored the Winchuk and Chetco Rivers - where stone skimming was a favorite with our 15 year old son; and took drives and hikes through the magnificent redwoods, including the very nearby Oregon Redwood Trail, just 3 miles from the house. There are an abundance of hiking trails in the area; a favorite for us was nearby Boy Scout Trail, just east of Crescent City.
We also had some great meals during our stay; Mattie's served a great breakfast and we had a great lunch at Panchos. The Wild River Pizza place was fun to unwind in too after a day's hiking!
Marshall was an attentive host and made us feel extremely welcome. We plan on returning to this property and highly recommend it to those planning a stay in Brookings.

We used this for a long weekend for our family. The view was fantastic! The home was very spacious and new. We liked being away from the traffic while only minutes from the highway. We'd certainly recommend this home and would return to this spot if our travels take us back to the Brookings area.

A spacious retreat away from the city but not too far. A beautiful country setting just out of town with new furnishings, large kitchen. Great for larger families. Watched Elk crossing the road, listened to coyotes in the evening and enjoyed sitting on the porch with a view of pastures and the ocean beyond. A real find in southern Oregon. Next time I'll bring my fly fishing gear for the river that runs through the property. Owner was gracious and helpful in all aspects.
