Perfect getaway!!

  • 5 of 5
I recently stayed at the cabin with my girlfriend and the only way our stay could have been better is if we would have stayed longer than the two nights we booked it. The cabin itself is very clean and cozy, but no more than two couples would be comfortable since there is not much space inside, A family with young kids would have a great time though.

The surrounding area is ideal for walks through the forest, and we drove a short 10 minute drive to Old Rag trail. It took us about 5-6 hours to complete the circuit, but the rock scramble is definitely worth the effort, loads of fun! There are other trails nearby that we will need to go back to, as well as visit at least one of the many vineyards that offer wine tastings in the area.

Thanks Connie for all your help! The only thing I would include in the instructions you send by email is that once you're in Lisa Lane, to take a left following the pond in order to get to the cabin immediately. Out first instinct was to keep going straight to the other cabins.

Perfect

The directions were a little hard to follow, but it was worth it!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a quiet, secluded place to get away and we found it! The cabin was very cute, and the lake was beautiful! We loved that we could bring the dog, who had a wonderful time exploring the woods nearby.
We hardly saw any other people unless we wanted to! Just a few people fishing occasionally.

It's small--I don't know if I'd want to stay with more than just two people--but had everything we needed to be comfortable; Basic cooking tools and a full kitchen was great for making breakfast every morning. We cooked bison hot dogs on the fire pit outside.
Swimming in the lake on a hot day was fabulous! We didn't fish, but it looks like they are plentiful.

Perfect place for a quiet, beautiful getaway.

One suggestion is that the email containing instructions and information about how and where to find the key should be sent maybe 12 hours before check in time, rather than 1.5. Cell reception is spotty (AT&T only gets signal in Luray, Madison, or 70% of the way to Culpeper), and it can be hard to check email when you're already on the road.

Serene

My husband and I stayed here for a week and it was wonderful. The cabin was cozy and welcoming. It was in the middle of the forest. When we opened the curtains, all we could see was the green of the trees around us. The first night was kind of scary because it was so dark, but waking up to the sound of bird song was calming. The kitchen had all the utensils we needed including sauce pots, baking pans, spatulas, forks, spoons, and knives. There's a nice campfire place to the side of the cabin but we were unable to make fire in the drizzly rain. We hiked old rag mountain, drank wine by the fireplace, visited luray caverns, and drove along skyline drive. I consider it to be one of the best vacations we have ever had together as a couple. I definitely want to go there again.

Nice Retreat !

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay at the cabin. The cabin itself is quite clean, nice, and secluded. There are bugs but it's the forest, what would one expect. You didn't hear anything other than birds around the cabin. We didn't need the AC on a 80F day cause the cabin is practically in the shades. Everything is there except food. The beds are getting a bit squeaky, probably from all the visitors the cabin attracts. The pond was a good treat because that's where our 4 year old excitedly caught his first fish, then 2nd, then 3rd. And I caught my first fish and several fish after that using just a long branch, string and hook. Before we left, we saw a huge fish. Must've been 3 feet long-so I'm not sure about swimming in there but the water did look appealing after the rain washed the pollen from the surface. We saw a big bear print-almost as big as my size 6 shoes by the pond. Unlike others, I'm glad I didn't see the bear.
It has a great location to the trails of WhiteOak Falls. The swimming holes and pool were nice on a cool down on a hot day after the long hike. We hiked both sides up to the various falls. The left side is definitely more challenging. Some hikers told us they saw big bears. We saw mainly caterpillars, centipedes and water snakes. We basically hiked in the morning/afternoon and spent the evening fishing till dinnertime.

Just a small tip. The directions should say the cabin is on the left of the pond or the other side of the pond. It didn't say that so we went up that steep hill and saw a similar cabin-luckily the car made it-haha. And the direction says to keep the gate closed at all times but each time we pass, it was opened despite us having closed it earlier.
Overall, this cabin and location is worth visiting!

Exceeded Our Expectations

  • 5 of 5
I don't know about sleeping 6 adults comfortably, but it was more than enough room for my girlfriend and I. The cabin is picturesque on the side of a hill with a pond below. The kitchen was perfect for my girlfriend who cooked dinner, me cooking breakfast, and wine from the nearby vineyard in front of the wood burning stove. We'd absolutely consider returning in the warmer months with the all the trees in the area. We'd recommend whiteoak canyon to the north and DuCard Winery nearby.

Secluded and relaxing

  • 5 of 5
The property exceeded my expectations from the listing- the photos do not do it justice! The pond is about the size of a football field and is great for some casual fishing (we caught several bream and saw several bass). No other cabins or people are visible from the property, very quiet and secluded location. The confluence of the Rose and Robinson rivers is just south of the cabin with some good spots for fly fishing. The Old Rag and White Oak canyon hikes are very close and beautiful 4ish hour hikes.

The property manager, Connie, was always available and helpful! The property was very clean and well maintained. The cabin itself has no Verizon or T-Mobile cell service (which was great for us), but if you're desperate a short walk up the hill from the cabin had Verizon 3G. There is also a convenience store located about 0.25 miles from the cabin with basic foodstuffs and some fishing supplies.

All in all a great stay; it was hard to leave!
